I just did a search on this dreaded topic because I think I am just about there with Liath too. This past week she can be a different bird sometimes. Most of the time she loves me dearly, gives me kisses and demands cuddles. But sometimes - usually in the evening she is a walking (or should I say flying) demon. In the evenings I like to watch TV and Liath and Oisin always sit with me. The past few nights she will bite for no reason, even if Oisin is on the stand or the other sofa. I usually move her away from me, but each evening I have ended up putting her back in her cage. She makes a run for me and bites, even if I am ignorning her, so it isnt something I am doing. Its almost like where she used to get my attention by calling me, now she gets it by biting me The other thing she is doing now is Squealing... she screams Ow over and over really loudly so we cant hear the television. All attention HAS to be on her! Oh and she flies and swoops on my kids heads and it HURTS! Heather are you still struggling ? Has anybody come out the other side with both you and your grey still intact???

He is definitely coming round! Keep up the good work

He has the telephone off perfectly doesnt he? I bet you run for the phone often only to find it is him! Karma for Max !

Me neither... I have never heard of them. A photo would be lovely.

She is extremely lucky to be alive. It certainly makes you think doesnt it? About living each day to the full! Give her our best.

He is gorgeous... now I want another baby! (of the grey variety not the human kind )

Tracey is right, the only thing you can do is keep talking to him, and encouraging him to come to you. And make sure he can see the food. Is he fully flighted? If so he might fly down to get the food.

When I was a child we had a budgie named "Budge!". We got a bit better at naming our pets after that He was so tame and cute, loved to share our food, sat on our shoulders and talked a little. As I got older I got interested in birds that could talk, and did some research on them. I discovered the African Grey. Then a few years ago I started to study Psychology, brain differences between humans and other species fascinated me, and the main difference according to many psychologists is the ability that humans have to talk and to use tools (including language!). Well I thought that a Grey can use all sorts of tools, and a Grey can speak. So I HAD to own one to see how a Greys language and skills develop compared to a child. I am not doing a study or anything, it is merely curiousity. I have a niece who is almost the same age as Liath, and although her vocabularly is much greater than Liaths, her ability to use full sentences is far less than Liaths. Interesting huh??

I have the flightline. But I actually dont use it much. Its a pain when she flys past a tree and then comes back from the other side! We seem to spend longer untangling her from the bushes and trees than actually flying! I am also concerned about electical lines over my fields so I cant let her fly there. I would probably have been better off with just the harness.

That is a really good photo. I was wondering why you posted a picture of a box and then I spotted Nikkos eye Karma for making me smile this morning.

They are really beautiful photos. I love the budgies! I have a green one who looks just like yours

Hi WikiV, Like your story my husband had never had a bird, wasnt interested in one, and thought I was MAD to consider spending such huge money on a pet. If I have to be honest there were some tantrums, and some sulks, and eventually he gave in and let me get my first grey. He was absolutely fascinated to the extent that less than a year later he bought his own Grey! So you might be surprised!

I trained in Computer Programming, worked my way up the chain to Senior Project Manager in IT, then quit to mind my kids! Now I am counsellor during school hours and a 3rd year Psychology student. I decided to work with people instead of machines!

I use the frozen fruit to add to fresh fruit. I chop up some apple or pear and mix it through. I just take a handful from the bag and defrost it in the microwave. Bulk it up with other fruits and divide it among them. The only problem is the mess defrosted raspberries make when they fling them

Well maybe.... But if I suddenly stop posting here you will know what happened me... It was nice knowing all of you!

Spooky that is a great picture! Here is my entry. Beaker playing with his toys. He loves the bell but can't quite reach it

Well sometimes you just have to laugh! Lets fight the big battles and laugh at the littles ones. I have another family meal coming up for my sons Confirmation... I think I might pass on that particular Hotel

Congratulations to both of you on your new baby. It is so exciting isnt it? Imme good luck on your DNA test, I am sure Kenya will be ok in the carrier especially since you can handle him/her a little. Lovelylew give Obi some time and s/he will come round. Obi is getting to know you as well, and is probably missing the breeder!

I actually kept quiet on this one because I actually agree with Dan and Joe (said in a whisper!!!) I left my job to care for my kids but havent suffered financially at all. I am not sure what the tax system is like where you live, but I was able to transfer my tax benefits to my husband, and by the time I took travel, food and clothes for work into account I was working for €30 a week!!! And I was a senior manager in a pharmaceutical plant earning big bucks and paying big taxes! I save money by cooking fresh food, we eat healthier and cheaper - no fast food or pre packaged stuff anymore. And best of all I was able to get my dream bird the African Grey! So sometimes, and I hate to admit this, sometimes, men are actually right. But I hasten to add that it happens very very seldom, and this is one of those exception cases!

Do we just vote once? or once for each bird? I voted not clipped just once - but I have 2 greys not clipped and a caique clipped.

I sprout beans and wheat for my birds. Oisin absolutely loves them and so does beaker the caique. Liath isnt too impressed with them, but she does pick at them. I do a batch to do 2 days, less work that way! I just rinse them and refridgerate them until I am using them. I buy the beans in the supermarket and mix them in a big tub. Then I just decant a mixture for them. I also soak brown rice, chick peas, lentils and mix them in with the sprouts. Lovely!
