1. It didnt reach the burner - its a solid fuel stove, so it was on top. But the smell was AWFUL. This flu stinks... the reason I am on here typing so much today is because I have lost my voice, and being Irish I have to keep talking even if it is via my keyboard My kids are in heaven because I can't scream at them! The greys are a bit confused because I'm not answering them though
2. I am not saying my birds are the smartest kids on the block, but I have LOTS of pets. 2 Greys, one caique, 2 budgies, cockatiel, and 2 dogs. They all need time and attention. I think all birds have different personalities. Liath is a snuggler and a talker, Oisin is aloof and is happier on top of a door watching the proceedings from afar. Once Que is happy I wouldnt worry about what you did and didnt do, I should think that is just her personality. How old is she? Maybe when she hits adolesence (if she hasnt already) her cheeky streak will emerge!
3. Before I get loads of comments about how I can't even boil water, let me start by saying "This wasnt my fault!":( Last night I was feeling pretty miserable with a flu. I had come back from scouts where I am a leader and tucked myself into a blanket in front of the TV. My husband was looking after the solid fuel range for the evening. He forgot to take the kettle off the hotplate and it boiled dry. The first I knew was a smell of burning plastic. The handle had melted right off the kettle and was melting on to the hotplate. The room my birds are in is right off this room. I opened all the windows and moved the budgies out of the room, but the whole house was full of strong fumes. They all seem ok this morning... should I do any more regarding vets or anything?
4. Yes, Oisin is the baby, exactly one year younger than her He can't talk much yet, so the poor little mite can't even defend himself! Won't it be hilarious when he can though, I can see arguments starting like my kids... Its wasnt me... it was her No it wasnt, it was HIM!
5. Is this what you mean by chipped?
6. I love these people who think the "love" birds and all birds will "love" them back!! What you are describing sounds perfectly normal. The beak is made of layers of keratin. You can help keep Eddies beak in good condition by giving him a concrete or pumice perch to file his beak on. Alternatively you can bring him to the vet and he will file it using a tool like a dremel. I wouldnt recommend you try doing anything with it yourself as you could hurt him. But if he can eat, and climb and bite! I don't think there is anything to worry about. Siobhan

It must break your heart to watch what we can do with our Greys, and you are still struggling to pet her. I think you have amazing patience and are an inspiration to the rest of us. Siobhan
8. Ok here is one for you. My kids still dont believe this is how we met but.... I was having lunch with my friend in her office where she worked as a Junior admin for a small company. The door swung closed and there was a man, with a coat hanger in his coat hanging up on the door by the coat hanger. Apparently he did this frequently to make my friend laugh when she was on the phone or whatever, but didn't know I was there. Needless to say that man is now my husband of 18 years, we were married when I was 21. (Do the maths, I am STILL in my 30's! Yeah!) Siobhan
9. I know Liath is doing something she shouldnt when I hear her shouting at Oisin. I hear "No Oisin, Stop that, No biting, OISIN" and I am sure she is up to no good. Siobhan
10. Here is my new caique, doing what caiques do best... clowning around!

Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/03/05 10:31
11. That's what I thought, and she didn't go wrong... it was lovely. Her teacher was very impressed... and considering she is an old bag, that was high praise indeed! Her only recommendation was that Orla served a green salad as well as a baked potato and Orla said she didnt have time!
12. I pm'd Joe the other day to ask him for a recipe for my 14 year old daughter. She has a cooking exam in April. Today is the trial run in front of her teacher and she decided to make lasagne. I asked Joe for a tomato based sauce for the lasagne that was (a) easy for a 14 year old, (b) quick to make and © tasty. Well Joe you did it:woohoo: She made her meal last night for us to practice and it was absolutely gorgeous! She is delighted. She was a bit worried about what her teacher would say as she didnt stick to the teachers recipe (it was awful). I told her to say she got the recipe from a genuine Italian chef! Thank you so much Joe, I am sending you some karma! Siobhan (and Orla my daughter)
13. I live in Westmeath, Ireland. Plenty of cold weather and rain!
14. Yep, sounds like play. Liath has this game where she hangs upside down from my shoulder. It looks really cute as she tucks her head into my chest... only problem is 9 times out of 10 she loses her grip and bites to try to hang on. I had to ban that particular game! Siobhan
15. That fantastic news. Liath was 13 months when she started to talk, and now there is no stopping her. She says things we havent taught her and doesnt say things we try to teach her. I have been saying Good morning to her every morning since the day I brough her home, but she still wont say it! Siobhan
16. Its amazing the difference from the photo on 25th to the photo on the second isnt it. I can definitely say now he is cute! Siobhan
17. Great link Tari. Thank you! I too have young children and they love the birds. I am very familiar with the bird on the kids head and the child saying "Mam, come get the bird". Siobhan
18. What a lovely name, Midnight. Congratulations on your new arrival! Siobhan
19. True, but it is always interesting to see new theories, no matter how far fetched they seem. And maybe just maybe there is something in it, along with all the other millions of reasons why domestic parrots pluck
20. I might as well throw in my tuppence worth. I have left Liath twice for 7 days each time. I left her at home. My family were here, but none of them can handle her so she did stay in the cage for the whole 7 days. The only difference was that my family were here more than 5 minutes at a time and she was very familiar with them. Liath was absolutely fine and was delighted to see me when I returned. However I didnt have a choice, I was going to the Uk so I couldnt have brought her with me. Siobhan
21. Surely as far as a bird is concerned humans are and "alien species" in which case all our birds would be naked! Siobhan
22. Oh my goodness... flowers AND cards?? Life is certainly looking up for us isnt it? Next year they might even take us out for dinner.... Well we might as well dream here as in bed....
23. Brilliant photos Nychsa. Bella really is hilarious. Lucky for me, my greys greet me in the morning with a very civilised "Hello!"

True love

No thank you! I would rather they get their loving this way than have lots of babies to deal with. We have 3 male budgies... suits me fine! (probably doesnt suit them though
