  1. MrsMQ if an avian vet is not available is there any kind of vet you can take your grey to ? i know you are doing all you can but a vet diagnosis really is needed here & appropriate medicine administered.
  2. Width is definitely more important than height, but that's my own personal opinion. It would be possible to halve the cage, i have seen smaller double cages on the market, personally if finances were ok i would say the best solution would be to buy another cage for your other bird, once this one is halved it may well feel claustrophobic to both birds. You say you have the cage in the kitchen, just a small safety issue,Do you cock with teflon pans ? If no thats cool, but if yes please be aware that teflon fumes can be lethal to parrots.
  3. I agree with Tari, you need to voice your concerns to the appropriate authorities & let them investigate. What a shame they wont sell him to you
  4. Ronda i fully understand your concerns, it is very early days, she needs to familiarize herself with her surroundings & her new family.Given time you will establish a routine.Sleeping perched on one foot is a good sigh.
  5. here is an article regarding sweet potato & dry skin i came across. SWEET POTATOES--Also popularly called yams, sweet potatoes are a blockbuster source of the antioxidant beta carotene, (one half cup contains 23,000 IUs) linked to preventing heart disease, cataracts, and numerous cancers. When you have reason to be concerned about the health of a parrot's eyes, this is the perfect nutritional boost for eye health. If a parrot has rough or dry skin, the high beta carotene of sweet potatoes will have a positive effect here too. This is considered to be one of the most nutritious foods in nature, and parrots of all ages love the taste, color and texture. It also is an excellent source of fiber.
  6. Great stuff Tari keep us informed of any developments.
  7. Some greys love it others hate it  my two boys are ok with being misted but coco had never been sprayed untill she came to live with me, so she tolerates it.Just keep at it loviechick. It would be a real shame if they had been sprayed as a punishment as you said, why people do this i will never know !
  8. If they are the ones in your avatar they are real cuties Nice that your friend is having one.
  9. Not much scares me & i have an open mind on spirits, ghosts etc.. my hubby swears our first home we purchased many years ago had a ghost. just a few nights ago my daughter yelled at me she could here a noise in her bedroom,we were all in bed & have no neighbours near ! i rushed in to investigate the noise ?? her ipod was on in her bag playing music
  10. Great stuff Joe, i love it my have to steal that idea in the summer

  13. Hi Arfus, judy has given you great advice, please dont rush into a grey, you will find the majority of members spent at least a year researching them before committing to one. Conures seem to be a popular small bird,i have cockatiels & they are great little birds full of character.
  14. Hi Alexandrian, Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of knowledge here & great friendly members. I started with budgies & Tiels,i now have 3 greys We look forward to hearing more from you.
  15. Richardsmommy i have 3 greys, & yes they can all make the clicker noise but they rarely do, they are to busy chatting away all day ! at the moment i have all three coughing as i had a chest infection recently & they have managed to mimic my cough :pinch:
  16. Bands & rings are fine,i have two greys chipped & one has a ring,my concern with bands/rings is that if a grey was stolen a thief would attempt to cut it off ! i have also heard of horror stories when birds get their bands caught when playing etc & have suffered some terrible injuries.Pros & Cons for both i think.
  17. Hi & welcome to this great forum.Look forward to hearing more from you.
  18. Definitely has to be clucking for me ! i use to cluck at my two boys when they were babies, they have now taught coco my 3rd grey to cluck ! so three greys clucking like chickens is not funny  :pinch:
  19. Hi i use E & L insurance in the Uk, http://www.eandl.co.uk/bird-insurance/ i pay £5 per month per grey so only £15 a month for me for the top full cover,i believe the excess is £60 per claim.worth a look to compare with beccy's.
  20. Both of my boys are microchipped as they do not have rings, they were left to be reared by their parents for as long as possible.Neither suffered any side effects from being chipped. The chances of them flying off is probably nil but if the worse case scenario ever happened i personally wanted a way to identify them.
  21. Hi Jimmy welcome to the forum.Gosh you do look the proud daddy there with your baby .I look forward to updates on Beaker.
  22. Keep up the bonding process Clay,so pleased you have tank home
  23. sounds as if you were Alcazar's hero Toni, a good suggestion from your vet,he wont associate any bad experiences at the vets with you. Keep up the good work.
  24. The shaking sounds quite normal. You must address the biting issue or it will carry on, everytime she bites apart from showing no reaction ( which i know is hard )you can try these ideas out. If you pull your hand away and yell, then your parrot gets a reaction out of you and will try again to get the same reaction. They think it's a game, try & show no reaction to him,try to distract him when you can see that he's going to bite, you can gently wobble your hand if he is on you this works well for me.I also have a clicker ( like some people use for dog training! ) if mine go to nip i click on the clicker & say a firm No in a strong voice, the clicker distracts them. Some people use time out, if your parrot bites you simply return him to his cage for 5 minutes & walk away from him & say nothing. Then let him out as normal, back to the cage if he bites & again dont respond to him.
  25. Hi Trina, Some parrots scream as a way to get attention. The cycle must be broken in order to change the negative behavior. Reward your bird when s/he doesn’t scream and never reward your bird when it does.Completley ignore the screaming behaviour as hard as it may be, never show any reaction.shower your bird with attention and love once the screaming stops. Good luck
