siobha9 I'm pleased you found a method that worked for you, keep at it
5. Ronda i can only give you my personal experience & advice i was given from my breeder when i brought my two greys home.It is slightly different in the fact that they had eachother from the day they hatched. I was advised to socialize them right from the start with all my family members,my son, daughter & hubby. All my family can pick them up,talk to them etc..As i am their main carer, cook, cleaner they have bonded closer to me.I know that at any given time this could change & they may well favour another family member.Every bird is different & will pick the person they favour, but my personal opinion would be to allow interaction with the whole family.
6. Wow you can talk about your animals Lovely to hear.
7. Thanks for the additional information on Asthma Dan. Mandi i appreciate you were passing on information you had learnt As Adults we should come to our own conclusions & decisions with the information that is available to us regarding the chillies. Mandi i know you say you have not took offensive by the replys in this topic, but if in anyway it has upset/ offended you then as Moderator of the bird food room i apologize , if this has influenced your decsion never to return that would be a shame. We wish you well with all your work & wish you good health.

Biting

Hi Donna, Here are a few ideas for you. If you pull your hand away and yell, then your parrot gets a reaction out of you and will try again to get the same reaction. They think it's a game, try & show no reaction to him,try to distract him when you can see that he's going to bite, you can gently wobble your hand if he is on you this works well for me.I also have a clicker ( like some people use for dog training! ) if mine go to nip i click on the clicker & say a firm No in a strong voice, the clicker distracts them,or have a toy handy they he can play with. Some people use time out, if your parrot bites you simply return him to his cage for 5 minutes & walk away from him & say nothing. Then let him out as normal, back to the cage if he bites & again dont respond to him. just a few ideas im sure other members will be along later with their personal experiences.
12. Having three greys my house is noisy anyway so a few doorbell rings is not going to make any difference !!

14. Alfie & Freddie love head scratches, cuddles & i can touch them all over.Coco will have a head scratch but on her terms only, from what history i have she was not handled alot but she is coming around in her own time
15. Thank you Dave for your reply,i do value your opinions & i have certainly learnt from you.My two boys are molting quite heavy at the momment & i was a little concerned about their feather condition but it is nothing as drastic as Flint. Thanks for posting the pictures of Jazz.
16. Dave do you have any thoughts on the second picture ?
17. Definitely not a standard molt in my own personal opinion.Feather plucking maybe a option but this is so vast. I would seek immediate veterinary advice. This may be PBFD or Giardia. Please see a vet & update us.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/10/30 22:40
18. jealousy can be a big issue, i have three greys & they do get jealous of eachother.Supervision & caution as advised is the key factor here.
19. I'm totally with you guys on this one, If people are not 100% committed to a lifetime of care/ vet bills etc..Then pets of any kind are not for them.It is a very sad state that we see so many rescue organisations across the globe caring for neglected & unwanted animals.Issues concerning neglect etc.. make my blood boil  loviechick i do agree on the rewards of a rescue bird,i did buy my two boys as babies but not long after i got involved with re-homing/resuce work & now have coco. i am also on the waiting list for a 4th bird when the need arises.
20. A lovely grey you have there A nice big cage to big is always best.
21. Hope everything is ok dicky601 . Chocolate and cocoa contain theobromine, which is toxic to birds.Symptons of chocolate poisioning to look out for are vomiting and diarrhea. Chocolate poisoning affects a bird's digestive system.
22. Great pictures Sara, thanks for sharing
23. Demetri Health guarantees vary from breeder to breeder, some offer health guarantees others offer nothing. Many disease's may lay dormant & not show themselves within two weeks anyhow, A general vet check is advisable during the 15 day time period they have given you. Welcome to the forum
24. Good advice beccy on the milk issue asnead72 the other members have given great advice,a little of what you have is fine in moderation, alongside a varied & nutritional diet.
