  1. I think the mealy amazons are really neat. My friend has one. He is the nicest bird and a lot of fun.
  2. My baby grey girl is finally home with me. We decided to call her Poet. She's beautiful, very sweet and curious. I can't tell you how happy I am with her. It was a three hour car ride home with her and she did great. She was really interested in seeing what was going on around her and didn't seem afraid at all. She happily crunched almonds and pellets and played with some toys that her breeder sent home with her. When we got home and in the house she became a little afraid and was growling at her cage. By this morning she was a lot better and thru out the day she has gotten pretty comfortable. She's been hanging out with me nibbling on my ear and spent time playing on her own with her toys. She isn't showing any fear on seeing the dogs either although I haven't let them close enough to overwhelm her. I think she will adjust into this household just fine. Poet
  3. I can't even tell you how happy I am for you and Brutus. I know how frantic you were feeling and how relieved you are now.
  4. What a beautiful love story. Can't wait to hear about all of the days to come.
  5. Nancy, what I meant by it not being a circus is I don't have crazy activity going on around here, like with kids or teens and their friends in and out all day. I am by no means a hermit though. People stop by frequently to visit and have coffee and such and my nieces are by all of the time. My birds do see different people quite often. I think my question was geared towards taking her on outings with me and meeting strangers and how to go about that without scaring her. I think I will just go with the flow and see how she does going out. She will probably be fine.
  6. McKenzy, Hello to you and Opi. Your grey sounds like loads of fun, looking forward to hearing more about her.
  7. Thanks for the post. I was just thinking how some nectarines would be nice.
  8. I just received word from the breeder of my grey girl. They are flying!!! Another couple of weeks and she can come home with me. So, so, so excited.

    Got my vote, good luck.
  10. Very impressive at four months old. Very pretty baby.
  11. I give my birds a lot of things. I chop up a lot of stuff like carrots, peppers, celery, apples, pomegranate, what ever I think of that's good for them and mix it with quinoa and brown rice. I have a tendency to eat a lot of salads with spring mix leaves, cranberries, nectarine, and chicken and they like to share that with me. I give them roudybush pellets. They also like to eat warm oatmeal with chopped up apple off of a spoon at night. They will lick red palm oil off of a spoon too or I'll put some on some on a piece of whole grain bread. They also get seeds and grains and I will sprout the seeds sometimes and they love that.
  12. I don't see anything wrong with the feet and the mark on the beak appears to be from rubbing
  13. Where do they get these things from?
  14. It's just impossible to even begin to guess when there is nothing to look at.
  15. I don't see the grayish brown coloring that you speak of in this photo
  16. That is hysterical!!! These birds crack me up, thanks for the laugh.
  17. Does your grey look like this?
  18. What a fun video, thanks for sharing. I hope that I can teach my grey to be that fearless when I get her.
  19. I wouldn't have the heart to break up a bonded pair. There is always someone out there for someone else. There are plenty of people who would take these bonded birds and just let them be who they are. As far as breaking them up to go to homes to free up space for other rescues? Well, if you freed up two spaces there would still be six more birds wanting for those spaces. You can't save the whole world. You can only do what you can with what you have and personally, I would try to do right by the ones that I was in charge of.
  20. Hello and welcome to the forum. What a nice and exciting surprise for you this must have been. Wow, Cyprus is so beautiful, it must be really nice living there. Looking forward to seeing pics and hearing about your new life with your grey.
  21. I have another question. I've been reading that a lot of times when you get a baby, they have a tendency to end up liking someone else once they mature. Being as I will be the only caretaker for this bird, what can I do to get through this stage and come out with us both being ok with each other. Of course other people will be in her life but she will be with me the majority of the time. I would really like to hear about other peoples experiences on how they got through this stage.
  22. Welcome to the forum Pam Pam. It's nice to see a fellow horse lover as well.
  23. Happy Hatchday Inara, you sound like a beautiful little bird.
