  1. My mother told me about this story today. At first I thought that it was Tui. It sounds like Nigel has had an interesting four year adventure that only he could tell.
  2. My mother just told me that a man in CA. found his pet african grey after several years of being missing. She said that the parrot spoke with a British accent but now also speaks spanish. She was identified by a microchip. Would this be Andrews Tui? Has anyone heard anything about it?
  3. When I purchased my grey baby and went to see her for the first time at eight weeks she was very suspicious of me. Honestly, she only started really liking me a couple of days after I brought her home. Now she's on me every chance she gets and flies around the house looking for me sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
  4. A similar thing happened to a kitten of mine years ago. He got his foot stuck in the same way. I ran over to rescue him and I think he swore up and down that I did that to him.
  5. Welcome to Albert. Who wouldn't like the nice lady with the fries?
  6. Happy Anniversary to you. This post was fun to read and it sounds like Inara is having the time of her life with you.
  7. I agree with you. At my house I have a pretty good filter. One of my things in my head is being suspicious of things that are consumed, I'm always thinking about what's in or on it. Years ago, one time when I went to visit my mom in Minnesota and then my niece in Wisconsin I drank from both of their wells all week. When I came home and turned the faucet on (city water) it smelled like poison to me. From then on I used a good house water filter.
  8. I think that the only way to know that is to have your well water tested as they are all different. If you are drinking it with no problems then it should be ok. If you use a good water filter there should be no worries. My house has city water but I have an artesian well in the yard. Personally I would not use it for my birds because it has a lot of sulfur and tested for ammonia.
  9. My girl is just going on 20 weeks and she is finally starting to be more sure footed. She was pretty clumsy when I brought her home at 16 weeks. The cage was pretty new to her when she first came home so I don't know if it was related to that or if she was just still in her clumsy stage. I'm sure your Maggie will find her groove just fine.
  10. Nice job on the toys, they look great. You are inspiring me to create my own now, thanks.
  11. That is quite alright with me. I think that a touch of selfishness is a healthy thing.
  12. Uh oh, I was just watching this video again and heard a little noise behind me only to realize that my goffins too was watching.
  13. Thanks Nancy, today she has already decided that I'm ok again. I certainly won't let that happen again if I can help it. It might not be so easy next time. I'm surprised she was so forgiving, I guess that's the baby in her. As far as landing on those chimes, I think I will just let her stay in the discomfort and figure out how to get out of it on her own.
  14. Poet is a little off still but nothing to drastic. I think the trust in me came down a couple of notches. She's eating and moving around fine though. The vet checked her and didn't see anything out of sorts as far as from the fall. I felt so bad when she fell, it must have hurt.
  15. I have one of those little bird brains, they're a trip. Very smart at figuring out how to get what they want.
  16. I liked it, I thought it was very pretty. Played it for my fids and they were saying "Meh" I guess my guys are wild party animals.
  17. We had an accident today. I put the harness on her and went for a walk outside. She was a little nervous so I kept it short (about 10 minutes). When we got back into the house and I was taking the harness off she got one of her legs caught up in it and then took a leap and fell strait to the floor. I have wood floors so it was not a soft landing. It happened so fast I don't know if she landed on her side or her back. Anyway, she is not acting herself. Nothing drastic just not quite as before. I'm a little worried about her slightly off behavior because I don't know if it is from being traumatized and scared or if she's hurt physically. I don't see her favoring any part of her body but you know how birds are. I had already made an appointment for the vet tomorrow for her check up so I'll tell the vet what happened and she'll check her out. I'm hoping that she will be fine.
  18. Well, I suppose she could get into trouble with them but she's in her cage when I'm gone and if she got tangled in them I would hear the racket that they make.
  19. LOL the problem is she doesn't seem to be skittish of anything. I give her new toys and she just runs up and grabs them. New food? Chomp Chomp! New places? Looks around with curiosity. New people? Hey! What's up? Maybe she's another species of parrot in grey clothes.
  20. Poet is driving me crazy!!! I really do mean that in a lighthearted way. She has this thing where she wants to fly to the windowsill when I'm in the kitchen. There is a play stand in there by the way but she prefers the windowsill. Anyway, after she gets there she will then fly and land on these chimes that I have hanging on the back door. Problem #1 is I really don't want her to be there. Problem #2 is once she gets there she can't figure out how to leave from there. I keep going to get her and she keeps doing it. My thinking is she keeps doing it because I go over to get her. Would it be mean to just let her hang on there until she figures out how to undo what she did? I'm thinking that would end it, but it's pretty uncomfortable for her there and it makes me feel mean to leave her there. What would you do?
  21. Looking good. I'm right there with your feathered friends, can't wait to see it finished.
  22. I guess I will have to start asking around. I can't find it either. I've been looking online.
  23. Wow, You hear a lot of stories of how people get their birds back after escaping. Usually it involves people helping and returning the bird. This is the other side, the dark side. In my opinion, if you keep something that you find knowing it belongs so someone else, it's the same thing as stealing. I'm so happy that you got Gabby back. I would just let her cling for now and feed them both. She probably needs the reassurance at this time. I'm sure it was pretty scarey for her too. Congrats on you new baby Mayzie.
  24. The DYH amazon my family had throughout my growing up was a wonderful bird. She was never aggressive except towards one person and that was my sister. But then, my sister used to tease her, do things that she knew made her upset and scared her. She couldn't really go near the bird or get bitten. The rest of us could turn her upside down and rub her belly, give her scratches and basically do whatever we wanted around her and to her. She wasn't a baby when we got her but she was young (about a year old). She was really a great bird and I don't recall ever being afraid of her. She sang songs, talked up a storm and screamed and yelled when she was in the mood. She also cooed, whispered and gave kisses. I don't know, whenever I read about the aggression in amazons that everyone talks about, I don't see it. But, my experience is limited to just two. A friend of mine currently lives with one and she's sweet as well.
