  1. I would rather win the lotto and live to 90 than just live to 180. lol Would you rather eat only veggies or only meat for the rest of your life?
  2. I went to see them and they were adorable. They're 8 weeks old and there is male and a female, the boy is 4 days older than the girl. I was hoping to go often so they can get to know me before I brought one home but six hours in the car killed me. They should be ready for their new homes at about sixteen weeks so maybe I can see them a couple of more times before mine comes home. I was really liking the girl but their was no reasoning behind it because they were both nice. They were a little bit leery of strangers and getting their picture taken but that's understandable. this is the boy this is the girl
  3. Welcome to the forum Nicola. Sorry to hear your family had such a rough start to this year. I've had years like you are describing, I know how it feels. Wishes sent your way for a better finish of this year. Can't wait to hear the stories of your family and pics.
  4. I use vinegar and grapefruit seed extract to clean just about everything.
  5. That is really neat, I love the way birds form relationships with people. It's so cool.
  6. Great idea with the packing paper. I'm going to look for that. Inara, I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that when vinegar is heated it changes the chemistry and the fumes are toxic to birds. Like I said, I can't remember where I read it, but it's worth looking into. I remember that it was warning about cleaning your coffee maker and pot by running vinegar water through it.
  7. Wow, nice cage for 25 bucks. I love CL too
  8. Years ago I used to shoot with a canon AE1 and loved it. My equipment was stolen and didn't really replace it until now. I recently got a Nikon D7000 and I would love it if I can learn how to use it. I know nada about digital cameras. I think I need to take a class on just how to make the camera do what I want it to. I'm not a professional but still love to shoot. Anyway, here are a couple of photos that I took with my new camera. Flowers Neighbors cat My horse Laela
  9. Dhorge, what beautiful photos. I love the countryside. Where are these taken.
  10. I will be owned by one of these babies soon. They look so sweet and innocent. I'm sure there will be times when I am shaking my head and wonder "what was I thinking?" LOL I can hardly wait
  11. Awww, I bet eventually she will let you put it on her.
  12. Is that your new baby in your profile pic. He's adorable!! I would be tempted to spoil him like crazy. I'm going to be in the same boat in a month or two. I'm curious with this thread because I would be torn between not wanting to spoil too much but at the same time not wanting baby to feel abandoned.
  13. Thanks, that's what I hope will happen.
  14. I'm going to see my baby grey for the first time next tuesday. I think the babies are six or seven weeks old but not totally sure. I'll bring the camera and take lots of photos. Any tips or suggestions?
  15. In all of my researching about african greys, I am learning a lot about them. Now, I have to figure out what color my baby is going to like too? Ahhh
  16. Wow! So cool, enjoy him while he is there.
  17. Well, newpapers it is for a lot of good reasons. I use papers in the cages of my other two birds that I have. Somehow I got it in my head that greys likes to scratch around on the floor. I really don't want it to be mucking around in poop.
  18. Yes, cedar is toxic. When I said shavings I was thinking in the terms of pine. I thought greys liked to scratch around on the floor. I guess not. It seems that most of your birds like to stay high and dry. Mildew was also a consideration that I had but any kind of litter would be dumped every day. Anyway, it was just a thought and wanted to know what other peoples birds liked.
  19. I just bought this cage used for the my baby CAG that will be coming home in a couple of months. I was thinking that instead of leaving the grate in and using papers on the tray I would take the grate out and have some kind of litter on the bottom that it could scratch around in. What would be the best thing to use? Shavings, corn cob, or something else? The cage is a pretty good size. The tallest part is six feet and it's 30" in depth and 48" wide. Any thoughts on the cage?
  20. He will learn it eventually. I don't have a grey yet, mine will be weaned in July or August. From what I've read and experience from the parrots that I do have, just talk to them a lot. Explain things to them in simple words and tell them what you are doing while you are doing it. They just pick up on it. I've read that some greys start talking before a year old but they really get going between 1 and 2 years. Just talk to him all of the time and call him by name often. Some greys don't talk at all, I guess they just don't feel like it. But they are still really neat birds.
  21. I'm sure a lot of you have seen this but I haven't. I think it's really neat and going to make one. Or three. Maybe others have not seen it either.
