It CAN pick up everything you say or it may never talk ever. It may be a noice maker. The phone, dogs barking that sort of thing. Or it may be like my Que only talks when she thinks no one can hear her.
My hubby says it feels like tiny bee stings at first but they used a numer and after a while you don't really notice it so much. You know they are doing it but it was numb so just uncomforable.
I made post here http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/15697-parrot-jolly-ball-website.html with the link for the ball. I bought an undone up one and did it up myself.
I want to get one of those baby play stations that you hook to the crib so I can hook it up in Q's cage.
Wonder how long it would take to gum up the working with poop? lol
This is the web site that I got the stuff to make my jolly balls. Really is good prices.
Great place to buy stuff to revamp toys.
Remeber birds don't care what they look like. So go wild make toys. For around half the cost.

I have enough birds that someone well play with it. lol And if they don't I just take appart and revamp. I'm not creative either but the birds dont care what it looks like.
ya they are expensive so I bought the balls and then added the goodies myself. I made four of them for the cost of one plus 15 bucks but had some stuff here like the rope. Two quaker size ones two Budgie size and that one in the picture. lol
Opps or that big. lol think I do the rest with links. lol

Id let her keep the name and maybe start saying Mrs Harrison. It should be easy to get her to say Pretty Bird instead of boy. lol I teach all of mine pretty bird cause you never know. And good bird. But I tend to think all mine are girls till I have them sexed. lol
Once you get a clean bill of health check to see if you changed anything. Also since your running heat make sure you give extra baths.
More toys to keep him buzy. Is he getting enough sleep or maybe to much? Maybe he don't want to be covered?
I am sure many more well have some much better advice.
I must say I commend your friend for keeping her inspite of times she can't give her the best. And your the sweetest to help her keep her pet.
Most people say "oh got to build a house the bird has to go' or "Im getting married bird has to go." Or "having a kid bird has got to go."
Personally I belive none of those are good reasons to give up your bird.
When my mother got sick and I had to stay out of town for most of three months and then when she got back I spend a lot of time at her house or in the hosipat with her I never once thought of giving up my birds.
Got a friend that had to move and her birds were outside for almost two years. But they are still with her and she has finally moved into the new house.
Your friend is so lucky to have you.
