My grey is not to hip on pellets either. She well eat veggies and fruit with no issues so that is her main diet with a little and I mean little seed/nut mix in the evening. In your case for now I would leave seed in there but keep offering as many different kinds of other foods as possilbe. You might want to get smaller bags or find samples of pellets and try her on different brands. But first have you had a vet check up yet? When you get a new bird this should be done within the first three days.

Well.... Im owned by a TAG and have to vote for a TAG however they can be hard to find. At least they are here. I have yet to hear of or see one for sale in the past 8 years since I got mine. Other then color and size they are not suppose to be different but I have heard and read that they are less prone to feather picking. How true that is I dont know. I know mine does not pick or have any real bad habbits and she has never bite me. Id love to hear from someone that owns both.

Wow Richardsmommy what a well thought out post. I must echo this moslty the part about the teflon. I was one of those people that thought "Oh its ok Ill never let that happen." and I killed my birds. Several of them. My small flock of breeder parakeets. My blue crown conure Robin and my quaker Draco. He was my very first parrot and just writing this makes my cry. He was five years old and the best. Sang, danced and talked up a storm. I still miss him very much. Needless to say that day all that non stick stuff went out the door. We ate hamburgers from the dollor menu for a month while I saved my money for SS pots and pans. Get that stuff out of the house asap. Its bad for people too oh and you cant use your selfcleaning oven ever again.

To get mine to bath I stared out with a see threw bowl. I but veggies in it. After fishing for veggies and falling in by mistake she started taking baths on her own. She hates the shower but well sit on her shower perch as long as I don't put her in the water.

wow that is amazing. How lucky are you to get a police bird. hehe Cant wait to hear more stories.

I use a spoon. Its messy but they can taste it more that way.

Here is anouther idea. Do you have other birds? Take one outside in a cage to sit next to the open cage. Maybe the sounds of anouther bird well attact him/her. Or maybe you have a bird friend that well let you borrow a parrot?

Your bird has not been gone long and you heard him this morning. Since you live in a wooded area I would assume this means he was not far. Don't give up. Oh and look up not just in bushes. Even if he didn't fly up he could climb up and he was spotted on a roof. Also maybe start searching further out.
-
Not sure on any of those questions. But one of the things you can do is place his cage outside with his fave foods and the door open. And maybe when you catch him think about clipping those wings? Birds even those that don't normally fly if they get a good wind can go miles before they land. Think how far the call can carry depends on location. Wooded area not as far as say like a basefall field. I sure hope you get him back.

TAGS are great birds. Im not bias at all. lol Really Im not. My husband like my birds as long as he dont have to touch, feed, clean or have anything to do with them. He does however really like my budgies. They make cute sounds he says.

Wow your my hero. It is so cool of you to take on a preowned bird as your first bird. Yes she can still learn new words, songs, and phrases. My Que just picked up some new words after only two weeks of me repeting them and she is 8 years old. It is possible for your grey to bond with you however this can take time. As far as her diet goes keep feeding her the pellets and the cooked food. It may take as much at 6 months to a year to get her to eat them but keep tring. Once again your are my hero and I wish you many years of happyness with your new friend.

People do but you would need to do this very slowly just to make sure they like each other. Maybe someone that keeps pets together well come along with more info. I only have one grey.
-
I use newpaper. However my cage is far enough away I could use just about anything without fear of Que getting to it. However newpaper is cheep. I have several neighbors that give me theirs every week. I have boxes and boxes. lol Even take some to my breeder friends place to get it out of the way.

Pooping is a way of life. lol I have just learned to clean up after my grey. She has a play gym and I keep papper under it and she is not allowed on the floor cause of my dogs. She poops on me so anytime I am playing with the birds I wear cloths I dont care if they get messy. I have heard some about a few bad side effects about teaching a bird only to poops in cage. Like going to the vet and holding it till they get home. Or buying a new cage and bird refussing to poop in it. Just something to think about.
