  1. Nicely done you showed both sides of this debate in a factual way.
  2. You need to take you bird for a new bird check up as soon as you can. I always tell people when they buy one of my birds to do it within 48 hours. I would play with him a lot to reassure him/her that everything is ok. But not excessive cause you want you bird to know how to entertain him/herself also. As far as males/females and talking I have been told there is no difference. But the only experince I have is my female TAG and she is a closet talking and does not say many words and can go weeks without saying a thing. But thats ok I love her anyway. Your bird may NEVER talk the only way to insure your bird well talk is to buy one that is already talking. Good Luck
  3. I have to agree here. You should keep your child and bird separate. Leave the bird in the cage you can have out time for your bird when the baby is asleep. Why you bird is doing this maybe your baby tried to poke out an eye when your back was turned or it could be jealousy. Either way I would not let them interact at this time in your child's life. They may grow into great friends later on but if the bird really bites the baby she may have a fear of birds for the rest of her life.

Your bird loves it so much he is no longer tame. I want a small bird farm.

The choclate pool gets full of ants. I would love a screen in back porch.
  6. All birds use their beak to steady themselves. They don't have hands like we do so they use their beaks. But I would still take her to the vet for a check up and a nail trim.

  8. Id take her to the vet and have them nails trimmed. The reason I suggest a vet instead of doing them yourself is they are going to need a major trim and more then likely this well get the quick and cause bleeding. Besides she/he needs a trip to vet anyway. All new birds should go to the vet within a few days for a new bird check up. Also I would not allow the bird on the floor unless the dog is put up. I know your dog looks like he would not hurt a fly but dog saliva kills and all it take is once for it to happen.
  9. Keep them apart is a good start. Maybe keep the radio on or TV on for a while. You should be the only one to handfed and/or give your bird the treats. She is young give it time just be persentant. Spend lots of time with your baby. However there is not proof positive way to make sure you bird bonds to you and not your husband. Some birds well even change who they like the most later in life. Your husband bird may someday decide your his fave. Hope to see pictures soon. and
  10. This varies from bird to bird and breed to breed. I know male amazons can be very aggressive during breeding season or so they say. My male quaker plucks more during the spring. When my pair go to nest the male gets much more protective of his cage. However my male amazon seems the same all year long. Sweet and loving. So that blows the whole males are more aggressive in amazons out of the water.
  11. Your baby is so pretty. Can't wait to see more pictures and hear stories about your baby.
  12. Oh I agree 100% My husband brought home this cat that I can not stand. We fight about that dang cat all the time. I want it kept in the back room so it cant get to my birds. He thinks its "cruel" to leave it back there. This room is the room my husband stay in 95% of the time cause he smokes and I wont let him smoke in the rest of the house. I see nothing cruel about that cat staying back there but he does and we fight about it all the time. I see years of fighting over this cat ahead of us.
  13. So sorry to hear about the mix up. But seems to be working out. Can't wait to see pictures of your new baby.
  14. Wing cliping is up to you, your home, ect... some birds dont stay as tame if left to fly some do just fine and stay very tame. Keep in mind just cause you clip don't mean they cant fly away so you would still need a harness to go outside. My Grey is 8 years old and wont have a thing to do with a harness so I am saving up for an adventure pack for my grey. Topaz is my baby blue quaker and she is learning to wear a harness and I love the idea of taking her places when its not 100 degrees outside. lol
  15. I had a quaker once that loved grapefruit juice. Had to make sure to get some with no added sugar or salt.
  16. I do spot cleaning between big cleanings and about once a month or so I take mine out side and my husband uses the pressure washer on them set on low.
  17. Those same people should not be allowed to have children either. I never understand why these types of people buy pets in the first place. Getting a rescue bird is a risk and in most cases very expensive. I got lucky with one of mine as he is very sweet and loving bird but he has liver issues. My other one I was not so lucky. He is not sweet or loving. He bites and he was a plucker. But I promised him he would live her forever no matter what his attitude. Dandy seems very content as long as no one tries to touch him. lol Anyone that rescues is a hero in my book.
  18. This poll well close this Sunday at 9pm central time. I well announce the winner Monday and hope to have your award ready then and announce the new contest.
  19. woot another quaker lover. hehe Your grey sounds like tons of fun. Can't wait to see pictures and hear more stories.
  20. I do not like fostersandsmith anymore. They miss shipped an order to the wrong address and would not resend it or give me my money back. So I well never have a thing to do with them ever again. As far as a TAG you got the better deal cause TAG's are much better greys then a CAG hands down. /ducks and runs. Sounds like a great bird how long does it take to get a bird like this? My rescues were not from any type of rescue center but birds that were no longer wanted and did not do well as breeders. Good luck hope to hear a lot about your bird.
  21. He eats so so slow I had to call him Turtle. Most the time I call him Turtle Dove.
