Sometimes that just happens. At around 2 years of age my Que slowly stopped letting me touch her head. Some birds don't like to be petted or cuddled.

Awwww what a cute baby. So glad you got to go see him/her for you birthday. And

Some birds can be pets and breeders but not many. Budgies and tiels are the only two that come to mind. But then again they are not as sweet as pets and this is only sometimes that it works out.

You need to take it really really slow. Even with my 9 week old quaker I worked with the bird for 2 weeks before I ever put it on her. Now my only problem is I am to clumsy with putting it on and off. So I have stopped putting in on while keeping up with the training sections and now I am training me with the stuffed animal to get much better at putting it on and taking it off. Even though she is very patient about it I don't want to ruin anything with my clumsiness. So no short cuts back up and do what the video said and you'll do much better.

It not that Fairy. Many parrots like quakers and a lot of wild caught just get way to upset if you try to keep them tame. I know with quakers you have to cover three sides of the cage and not open the nest box or they well eat/harm the babies. I don't see breeding as cruel at all they have each other and any other birds you might have as company. They are kept clean and happy. Not keeping them tame is something that would happen anyway cause they are paired up. Breeding is not fore everyone but it is not cruel. Not to say there are not cruel breeders out there but Jesus does not sound like one of them and I know I'm not. Breeders are needed. Many of our parrots are disappearing out in the wild and without people breeder there would be none. Also no one would be able to own a bird at some point if it were not for breeders. In the US bringing in wild caught is not legal and if we didn't have caring dedicated breeders over time there would be no more parrots for us to own. Never said I wasn't attached to my breeder quakers. BB and Betsy. But I they are no longer tame. And yes I get attached to the babies I tame them and spend a lot of time with them just not their parents. Breeding is not for everyone but it is not cruel.

If I remember right that is the 6 inch one. I have two smaller ones for the budgies and the plet. And if you think that is huge you should check out my photos Que has one and it is huge.

My husband made a box with wheels to put my Playstand in. This well make it easier to clean and move around. I really like it. Joey and Topaz are modeling it for us.

Fairy I think what he mean by not getting involved with them is that with breeder birds they are not pets and in most cases the less humans bother them the better off they are. My quakers get cleaned, food, water, toys and any medical attenion they may need but I don't bother them if I can help it. Breeders need privacy and need to be parrots. Tiels and budgie well breed very easyly in our homes but many other kinds well not. And need to be left alone as much as you can.

I thought this might be an interesting topic. Ill start by telling you my story. I never thought I would be a grey person. The few people in my local bird club that had them were cage bound and one was a plucker. And they were just grey. They just did not appeal to me. Around 7 years ago I killed my quaker, a blue crown conure and 11 breeder/baby budgies with teflon. One of the club members about 2 weeks later gave me one of her breeder quakers that just was not working out as a breeder. (Not a great pet either he still bites bare hands or anyone that gets to close but I promised him this is his forever home) A month later I get a call from anouther club member about a grey whose buyer backed out and needed a home very soon. She was 6 months old and was not going to get the attention she needed to stay tame cause that years babies were starting to come in. So I was offered a deal if I wanted the baby. Well I told her to bring it to the next meeting and I got on the internet to find all I could about TAG's. I read they did not have as many phobias as the CAG's. I get to the meeting and met the bird. First thing she did was scream at me for asking her to step up and I'm thinking "No Way will this work" But I hold her the entire meeting and after about 15 min she is very calm. Then she made that cooing sound. That was it she melted my heart and I had to have her despite all my fears of having a grey. Now over 7 years later I still have a calm, sweet grey that has been a joy to have around. So whats your story?

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/28 14:00

Mostly I have pets cause I can't have children and to try and fill that void in my life. I use to be a dog person but after buring five I wanted something that lived a lot longer and researched parrots and got my first quaker over 11 years ago that sadly died from teflon accident. But after that I was hooked on parrots.

Very seldom if ever well a bird be as bonded to you if it has one of its own kind in the cage with it. This is true of any type of bird. This even happens to people when they marry. Their cycle of friends become smaller and they spend less time with them. I would not encourage anyone to house two together if they want their bird to remain a bonded pet.

There is only one fool proof way to sex a grey. DNA period. Those are all myths and you do have a chance of being 50% right. The breeder said Que was a girl based on eye shape. I had her DNA'd and the breeder guessed right. /shrug

Mine does that shaking off and on. There is nothing I can find that causes it. She does just does it.

It can take months. Just keep offering it along with the food she well eat.
