I have two rehomed parrots and found the book "The Second-hand Parrot" By Mattie Sue Athan to be of great value when dealing with my rehomed parrots. I was lucky enough to met her at a AFA convention a few years back snd she is a wonderful and caring person. Also grab you all the up to day Grey books you can get your hands on. And it goes without saying read every drop of out forum. Any one that is willing to take on a second hand bird is a hero in my eyes.

Not so sure about that. Im her food dispenser. :silly:

To talk. I can here her saying something but can't make it out just yet. Think it is pretty bird. She is nine weeks old and spoiled rotten. Every time I go near her cage she things she should be picked up. She'll run to the front of the cage and beg. I know she is not wanting feed again cause she'll do this even if I had just feed her 15 minutes ago. Dang how did she get so spoiled so fast. It can't be something I did.{Emotions-000200B8}<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/27 15:40

Forntantly my Que well still got other people but I only let "bird" people handle her. She well fuss about it but she well do it without biting. I am able to take her to bird club meetings and that is where she gets her "stranger" time. She even fusses when my husband "saves" her from the floor. lol I wish she could interact more but most people get scared when she starts to screem about stepping up. She did this with me too all them years ago the first time I picked her up. Half hour later we were best friends.

Jane In a way I know where you are coming from. (If your still here) I have a plucker to and have done all I can. For the most part he has stopped but every spring Ill find some feathers. He came to me plucked. Other then having no body feathers he is healthy and content. Im sorry you felt that people were being mean. I never saw that and having a plucker I too am sensitive to the cruel remarks people can make about plucking being the owners fault. But sometimes it just happens. I hope you rethink your decision and stay with us. We can learn a lot from each other.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/27 03:57

Tag's are great. And ya parrots sometimes stand on one foot. While yours is still a baby it may sleep on floor of the cage too. Make sure all perches are low to the ground as they are prone to falling till they get older. A "nest" area is a great idea. Feed him as long as he keeps asking for it. Do not force wean it can cause many behavior problems even later on in life. BTW

TAGs are much harder to find even as a baby much less a re home. I have two re homes and two parrots I got as babies. I for one would of never been able to handle a grey as a re home it would just scare me to death I would make them worse not better. My grey was a baby of 6 months when I got her. One of my re homes worked out great my other is still a biter and can't be handled without a towel. Dan Sorry didn't mean to hurt your head. lol She talks when she THINKS no one is around. Feel better.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/26 21:29

As long as they have their own cage for times they are not out and for night and you dont let them breed I dont see a problem. But if you keep then together its not just a risk its pretty much a given they well bond and not be near as tame. And may even use human talk less. And you'll have to throw out any eggs they may produce. Inbreeding is never a good idea. They have some really nice double cages out there so instead of two cages you'll have one with a divider in the middle. They sound so cute together but when they get all grown up they may not be so cute together then. As far as time goes since they are nice to each other they can be out together so the only extra time well be mostly cleaning and making food. But there is double the expence for food, toys, vet bills, ect....

TAG and she started talking when no one was around at around 8 months.

No I don't really give my birds any of my food. I use to give a cheese nip every now and again untill we had this thing on her about salt. What I do is buy a bag of frozen veggies add some pasta or rice sometimes some soaked beans to it. And seed/pellets and that is their food. I dont even feed my dogs left overs cause it is bad for them and well shorten their life span. So they get dog food only. As a treat I like to feed ZuPreem Parrot Crunch and they all love it and sometimes millet spray.

So glad your going to learn before you get started. Breeding can be rewarding but keep in mind you wont make any money. lol But it is so great to feed a baby and see it grow to become a well adjusted adult and go to a great home.

Weaned at 10 weeks? That is too soon for a grey. Weaning to soon can cause all sorts of behavioral problems. Please go back to feeding your baby at least once a day. I can't think of a way to say this where I don't sound so mean. I'm not tring to be mean I just want to help you and your have a long rewarding relationship. If you can would love to see pictures of your baby. And hear about his/her adventures.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/26 18:59

Im still watching them. The budgies are not as chatty as normal and the finch keeping fluttering form one budgie to the next singing to them. But so far no problem. I also have two places/items that the finch or budgie can hide in if they feel the need. And ya they have been able to see and hear each other for months.
-
My older female finch passed away. Poor baby. Anyway I have the male still and have no idea how old he is but really don't care to get anouther finch. I have him in with the budgies at the moment and he is singing his heart out to them. I have heard of people keeping finches with budgies in large out door avairies but wonder if it well be ok to leave this male in with the budgies in a 20 wide, 18 deep, 16 tall cage? I have been watching them and they seem fine but wonder how long harmany can last? I am tring to make up my mind if I want to risk it so he can not be alone. They are all on the same perch setting in a row. It is really cute. <br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/26 15:20

Yes it was a jest. My Que just can't do the shoulder thing she gets all mad and screams like a banshee when I try to remove her from the shoulder and well run to the back where I can't reach her and be a brat. She wont stay on the shoulder either she'll move to the head as soon as she can and poop on me. It just don't work. And I like my eyes where they are. How ever stylish a eye patch is. Now I am guilty of letting my amazon on my shoulder but not often and if someone comes in the room I remove him very quickly cause he has been known to nip me to get me to move away from the "stranger". None of my birds have ever what I would call a bite just warnings and I try to lesson. lol I still do not recommend it especially to a new bird owner.

I love my aviator that Topaz has. She is not really flighted. I did a modified clip on her so she can fly some but not get any hight. I mostly got it so I can take her outdoors. Que is flighted at this time but has no idea how to fly. Once she gets that figured out Ill do a modified clip on her so she can fly some but not get high or go far. Unless being flighted turns her into a brat then grounded she well be.

Did you ever realize the reason for pirate and eye patches? {Feel-good-0002006E} Sorry couldn't resist saying that. :P <br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/26 12:57

I must agree with Tricky. Don't get in the habit if you like your eyes and ears as they are.
