I bought a cage from her and she is a member in good standing with our club however we don't see her much. I almost got an ekkie from her.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/08/21 19:41
  2. Ok I know who she is and I have talked to a couple people and they are saying to be very carefull buying from her. There has been some some issues in the past not dealing with birds but with other things that were not (how do I say this) on the up and up with some business dealing. I believe this is the same women I bought a parrotlet from that died two days later and she would not refund my money. Part of this was my fault for not asking about health warrenty. So be sure you ask about this. Im waiting on some more replies about her Ill let you know and if you still like me too Ill call her and make an appoint to go out and see her birds. I won't lie to her Ill just tell her Im doing a previsit before you make the trip all this way. http://rikisperch.com/trotti/main.html I know a person that knows Myrna better but her work has her out of town right now but hope to talk to her soon.
  3. So far no one has heard of her. But I've send out some emails and should get back to you soon. So you have anyone other info like her name or address? I could go visit her myself for you and report back.
  4. Pearl is a 20 min ride for me. I live in Jackson. Going to call some of the club members and see if I can find any info on this person cause I have never heard of her. Ill let you know what I find out if anything.

    Asthma

I have asthma too. Here are some suggestions so you can keep your bird. Daily mist. Keep your drapes clean. Don't keep the bird in your bedroom. Mist the paper before you change it so dust don't fly. Keep the area around the cage moped or vacuumed everyday. Get one of those living air filters it makes all the dust float down and not float all over the house.(they are like 800 dollors but I have had mine for like 9 years works great but the one Talon suggest sounds good too.) And see your doctor and get a prescription for one of these great nose sprays. My Dad swears by them. Flonase I think is what he has not sure on that one. And air out the house any chance you get. If none of that works and you still want a parrot once you have him placed in a nice forever home look into an Ecletus they have no feather dust at all.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/08/21 16:11
  6. Getting a pre owned bird is not IMO a good idea for a first time parrot owner. In most cases they are also more expensive then a baby. You have the price of the bird and they straight to the vet. Many people give up birds cause of behavior problems or health issues and these can be costly to correct. However Im not saying you won't get lucky like I did with my Joey (RLA) and get a bird that once in a loving environment with the correct diet just fit right in and are sweet as pie and you wonder why the heck they didn't want him. Or you could wind up with a bird like my Dandy still bites every and well never have his feathers again and even though he was free he cost me over 500 in vet bills to narrow down the plucking issue and get him to stop. They are harder to get but if you get one threw a rescue group they have usually done all the vet stuff so you just have an adoption fee and well bird check up. But most rescue groups want you to jump threw hoops to get a bird threw them and wait forever. I'm not that patient. lol Good luck
  7. I live in Mississippi Where might this breeder be or maybe her name. I know a few breeders in my area (Jackson) and have heard of a few in this area too. Also when you go look and see how clean things are. Do the babies have clean feet, cages, ect.... It should not be over clean but clean enough that the babies dont have food caked around their feet or face. A little is normal a lot is not.
  8. If he is attacking people maybe you should concider a clip? You can always let them grow back later when you have corrected some of the problems you are having with him.
  9. Just keep the ferret in his cage and only take him out in rooms with no bird cages. Cause they well kill them if they can get to them. Like have her keep the ferret in her room only. And maybe you keep your birds in your room with the door closed at all times. Same goes for the birds never take them out with the ferret lose. As far as not jumping like cats I have seen some that jump just as much and almost as high.

    clever bird!

What fun. When I first got Que I wanted to teach her to count. So I bought those flash cards. Unfortanlty she wont talk except for when she thinks Im in anouther room. So it didn't work. Maybe you can try that? And mix up the numbers? We well soon have an Alex in our mist. lol
  11. Your bird is very sick. Even if he seems better birds are very good at hiding illness. And he was way to sick to be well over night. Be sure to give us an update on his vet visit. I hope you were able to find an avain vet even if you have to drive a ways to get there it could save your birds life.
  12. You should never punish a bird. It really does not work anyway. There are better ways to deal with biting or screaming. With biting a wobble correction is good way to stop this. If they bird is biting when asked to step up there are a few ways to deal with that. Screaming is the easist IMO to stop/deal with. Just walk away or turn your back on the bird and then reward for the behavior you want. I would never remove food from any bird even for 5 min. What if you forget to put it back cause you got buzy or had to leave in a hurry? There are a few good post in the training section dealing with biting.
  13. How about contacting the local parrot club. You can usually find them threw the avian vet. Or go to the next bird fair. I believe they a have several a year there let me check bird talk real fast..... There are two in TN next month but none in your area. One you can find info on is at www.ebcnet.com and the other gives out phone numbers and email address Id rather not put on here. Or you could pick up a bird talk at your local pet shop. I don't blame you I would not buy from a pet store they over price and most don't really take proper care of their birds. Oh and you could try Just some stuff I found when looking for mod info on what our jobs are or should be. http://www.sitepoint.com/print/947 http://www.evcforum.net/WebPages/ModeratorGuidelines.html they have a forum for breeders to let you know what they have for sale and such. Maybe you can find some one close to you there.

    Roxy talks!

There well be no stopping her now. So be careful what you say. lol
  15. You should only feed a teaspoon or two once or twice a week. I feed boiled eggs to mine and I useally add one egg to the veggies mix I make up for the week.

  17. Going slightly off topic is not a bad thing but to completely derail a topic is just not going to work anymore with our growing numbers. We need to reign it in and this is the only way we can do it. I think once everyone understands the need to stay in topic well ger more threads which is good and we won't have to do to much deleting if any. However I must say Im on several larger forums and this is pretty much how they handle the post to keep the forums running smoothly and making them easy for everyone to find what they need.
  18. It is a conversation but it still needs to stay on topic so valuable info does not get lost is the side track chatting. We can have all kinds of that in the off topic forum but need to keep it on subject in the others even more so as we get bigger and bigger. It makes our job as mods and adminstaters so much easier this way.
  19. Oh no this is normal for that breed of bird. They are quite and don't move around much and they prefer a quite calm environment. There are exceptions and I hear the males are not as bad. They are not good with children as a rule either but mine feel in love with a 13 year old and until she died at age of four cause of a tumor she followed that child everywhere. If (not that they well) one of my pet birds passes away I may try again with a male. Cause the coolest thing about them is they don't have feather dust and their feathers look more like fur. That is what drew me too them in the first place.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/08/19 22:09
  20. This is not about stoping the flow of conversation it is about making things easy to find for us and new members. Example Im pretty sure the subject of QTing birds was mentioned somewhere but it was in one of those post about got a new bird somewhere. Or say my post about eggs I do believe that one got way off track and not if you want to find that great post about how to do it in 2 second a new person well have to swim threw the rest of the post to find it. There are many other examples out there but being the smart person you are (you got to be to know so much about your baby Vasa) I am sure you can figure out the need to stay on topic. You can do a cut/paste if you have something off topic to say about a comment someone else made to keep the flow working right. Thank you for your concerns but I think once people start staying in topic deleting wont ever be an issue.
  21. I had one for about 6 months. She was scared to death of my husband. Everytime he walked by the cage she would throw herself to the bottom and flay about screaming. I handfed her and this never got better no matter what I did. They like quite slow moving people not fast moving loud husbands.
  22. My husband is a painter so it is sealed and then painted with bird safe paint. lol And my birds are never down there they are always up top.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/08/19 16:50
