So sorry for your lose. I agree with the waiting on getting a new bird. After I love my Draco (my first parrot other then budgies)I got another green quaker just like him but I was expecting another Draco and we never did bond. I found him a new home(my husband best friend so I see him all I want) and got my first grey. I do have quakers again but this time I expected them to be them and not Draco. Did that make since at all to you? Anyway so very sorry for your lose.

Mine does not flap when on my hand but he well get upside down in his cage several times a week and flap like mad. lol As long as you have a good hold on him and he does not do it the every time you pick him up he may just be exercising.

Instead of moving the bird and coming up with money to heat and cool what about a nice full spectrum light for the room in the house he is in now? No one is attacking you we want what is best for your bird and we are being honest about it and maybe not using the best words. Also we read these post and one or two words stick out and then we do not really "hear" the rest of the post. Example you saw the word neglect in my post and did not read the rest. I did not say you neglected your bird but that is what would happen if I moved mine outside and could happen to you too.

This is so great. Love the pictures. Hey all of use have dirt around out bird cages. lol

First make sure you have them QT'd from the other bird you just got. Next take them to the vet. There are many reasons a bird plucks and number one on that list is health issues. I would also separate them and get them to bond with you before letting them live together at all. It is also possible she is plucking due to wanting nesting material for breeding so separating may help stop that. My Blue female quaker plucks every breeding season.

I love the pictures such a pretty bird.

It might be easier on him if you mist him daily with a very light mist from a water bottle. Tell him your going to do it before you do it. Use soft happy tones. Plus it well help keep the dust down if you do it daily and he well at least accept. Hope you OCD does not keep you from keeping your grey they are messy by nature and have dust. Good luck PS Plet as guild bird I have this image in my head of a tiny harness on the let and the grey with a leash in his mouth. Sorry but just to funny. /giggle

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/01/29 00:26

This is so great. I hope you keep making progress.

If you work out the temp thing my biggest worry would be neglect. Not on purpose but unseen is usually not remembered. And then it well be "oh Im to tired to go out and get him today or to cold or its to wet or..." and then it would happen more and more. The reason I say this is cause I could see it happening with me and that is why my porch is still not screened in.:silly: How long would you make the effort? Be honest about it. I think I would rather see him in a smaller cage with lots of out time in the family room instead of moved out of the house. Just my opion based on what I know would happen if I moved my birds out.

One think I would do right away is lower the perch very low in the cage or even find a cage without a lot of up and down space. Unfortantly as with humans you stay depressed to long and it alters the brain. So not sure what can be done to make life easier on him. You could try getting in touch with Sally Blanchard I know she use to have a grey named Bongo that was a real challange. Just do a goodle on her you'll find her. My heart goes out to your little guy and I hope you can at least make life not so scary for him. Good luck

I would keep the dog in the other room. I have several dogs and none are allowed near the birds when they are out of their cages. Even the most trained dog can forget themselves and kill a bird. Is it worth the chance? Not with me it ain't. So just keep them apart. There was a recent post on one of the forums I like to visit from a lady whose bird she had had for 13 years was killed by a dog she had had for 10. The bird got startled flew off her play stand and dog just jumped up from its bed snatched bird out of the air. Bird is no long alive. She has learned her lesson the hard way. She thought her dog was trained and would never hurt the bird but she still supervised but it happened so fast she could not do a thing to stop it.

Since I type and spell so badly kind of getting use to being corrected.

Sometimes a bird just picks us and not a thing you can do about it. That's how I got Joey. Had no desire to own an amazon but he wanted me and he won. lol

My green does not talk and not that noisy. Blues also tend to be smaller then the greens. My blues are smaller then my green. The blues are talking all the time just about. Not loud but very chatty. This afternoon the two youngest were chatting with each other. Sweet Pea "I love you" Azure "I love you" Sweet Pea "Pretty bird" Azure "Good bird" On and on back and forth for about an hour. Even heard something new. "What you doing" Oh and they were ummmm having an afair. lol They don't care that they are brother and sister. Pretty sure Azure if a girl. lol Sweet Pea is now in his new home with his forever family. YA for Sweet Pea and I should stop tearing up in a few days. I do believe my blues are much sweeter. The green breeders where I work are loud and many of them well try to bite threw the cage. My blue pair are going on 3 years old and while they dont like being handled they still don't bite.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/01/28 02:27

You have good advice but in the long run you must know birds are noisy that is they way they should be. Good Luck

They are cute and so much fun. So far the blues have been a real joy to raise.

While maybe you could cram a grey in a taxi cab small enough to go under your seat why would you? JMO And then when you go to where your going where is the bird going to stay? In that tiny crate?
-
Don't think this person well be checking this maybe you should email them. Hope you work it out.
-
They don't let pets travel when it is this cold and a grey is to big to go under you seat. You'll need to find a place to board him. Your avian vet maybe? If not maybe they know where. If not it is only one night your bird should be ok at home for one night. Just make sure he has enough food and maybe put a light and radio on a timer. If the airline well allow him in with you not in the baggage car way to cold for that. You'll need a pet taxi you can get them at Walmart.

Oh oh I love the spa idea. Ill add that to my list. lol

Got two people that are talking to me about buying a baby blue from me. One is for sure the other still needs to "think" about it. lol It sort of worried me they don't really want anouther bird since they have to "think" about or just don't want one of mine. lol Anyway got some great pictures. This one is around 6 months old now. This one is a week younger. And I still have the one that is 8 months old but of course they want the "babies" funny thing is the oldest is the tamest of the three. lol They are all still talking I will miss them.
