1. You can use pictures of person with outdoor birds or birds at the zoo. Sorry but it has to be other birds cause that is what this forum is called.
2. I knew you all would like it. Wonder how..... lol
3. Sure well let that count. Great pictures you all.
4. If you want pets then I would not pair them up. Don't really have to buy a new cage(unless yours are too small for two to be able to get away from each other and both be able to flap wings and not hit each other) but you do need to have a second on hand incase they fight. I would just interduce them to each very very very slowly and let them choice the cage they want. But be ready to possible lose your bond with your now pet bird. Good luck

New job????

If 15 hours is the longest you'll be gone and you still have days off or short days to spend with him your bird should adjust fine. I leave the TV or radio on when Im gone for long periods. Good luck
6. Heck my 9 year old well still take formal if I offer it. Which well be a good thing if I ever have to medicate her for anything. Mostly she only gets some when I have other birds in the house Im handfeding and she well beg for it if she sees it. lol Not sure when she weaned as I didn't get her till she was 6 months old. But my quaker babies all weaned at different times some wanted baby food for a month longer then the other wanted it. Each bird varies and so far the ones raised alone want it longer for the most part.
7. If your husband plans to be the main care giver for this bird and your not so uncomfortable with the bird it makes your life miserable and you don't make the birds like miserable. I don't see why not. It knows you and your husband and the move should be fairly easy on the bird.
8. Hello? Anyone planing to do this.
9. Some birds just wean faster then others. I found that if I offer the food on the bottom of the cage they come more to eating it. With my babies I use a paper plate and they get down and "play" with the food before they start eating it. This is normal and should be encouraged. Good luck
10. I am of the belief no matter how "safe" we make our homes we can't remove walls or windows. So I have mine clipped. I don't get why people call it a personal choice. Cause I would rather be able to let them fly but if I want my birds to be safe they can't. Keep in mind a clipped bird still can not go outside unless caged or on a harness.
11. lol Throwing food is a parrots job. That is why they are here. To try and stop that is like tring to stop the wind from blowing.
12. When was the last check up with an avian vet? Just to be safe I would make an appointment for a regular check up since your concerned and pictures don't always tell the whole story. A normal molt does not leave bare spots.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/01/16 10:51
13. Que use to want on my shoulder/head all the time for the first year. I just kept removing her after a while she got the idea and stopped. Topaz was easy since I raised her from day one. Yes she was a day one handfed chick. I just never put her up there in the first place. Joey on the other hand well try still to get up there every so often or he wants to bury his head in my neck. That worries me and I have to unglue him. lol To many veins there he could get if he got excited. How ever none of my birds have ever bite me I just like my eyes and ears and can't afford any scars on my already ugly mug. lol Dandy I can't even touch without getting bite and he draws blood every time. So never ever never well he be up there. Maybe I worry to much but not only would their be my pain and possible scare but I think if I ever really got hurt by one of my birds I would lose trust with them and not want to be around them as much. And yes it is a personal chioce but to me its a choice up there with smoking or speeding it can come back to bite you.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/01/16 10:02
14. Before you try any of these great ideas you really need to go to an avian vet and have a full work up. Blood test ect... to make sure there are no illness to cause his plucking. Good luck

A Sad Day!

I also re homed a parrot once. It was my ekkie. I was crazy about her and she loved me but was terrified of my husband. Anytime he moved and she could see him she would throw herself down to the bottom of the cage and flay about. I was concerned she would hurt herself. So after 6 months of hoping it would get better I gave her to a friend. The bird lived for 4 years with my friend and was very happy. She got very sick and passed away from liver issues. Sometimes a bird just does not work out. But when it comes to life changes I make make the effort to keep them. I promised them forever homes and that is my goal even if I have to do back flips to do it. And I have. lol But when I bird is not a fit I would much rather see someone re home it.
16. It is a risk that I am not willing to take. It really depends on if you don't mine a scar on your face. No matter how tame your pet is they can always get startled or lose footing and grab your face.

A Sad Day!

I would work around that even for three years. That is just a small portion of your greys life and they are more accepting then you thing. Sounds to me like you have decided birds are not for you. Thats ok not everyone is a bird owner. I wish you luck finding a FOREVER home for your pet. Asking for some money is ok too. I found out when raising Chihuahua's that people well take a free dog cause they have no money and well not take it to the vet. I know you'll still get people that well buy the pet and still refuse to take it to the vet cause of money but at least you have better odds. Good Luck
18. Your birds diet sounds good but would add beans, peas, greens, zucchini, cabbage or any kind of stuff like that with the fruit. You can also fill in with cooked pasta and cooked rice.
19. Most of the breeder birds where I work wont let you touch so we towel or net them when they need to go to the vet. With the smaller birds a pair of heavy gloves do the trick. The thing is don't hesitate. Do it get it done. When you spend to long chasing the bird cause your afraid then they bird gets very stressed. So grab it and move it and let go.
20. Sounds like a plan and you could spend less time with echo and more with your own birds. (Im assuming you have other birds.) We can do all sorts of things but in the end they choice who they choice. My husband does not handle my birds at all but he can if I am not home. He is the only one that feeds treats so they are not afraid of him. They still choice me over him but if Im not home and he has to he can get them to step up for him.
21. Oh ya that is more then likely diet. So is he tame? oh and whats the new babies name? hehe I say he is is a he?
