    Banding

Very few breeders use hatch dates. It would just be to hard to order bands and get them on time to put on the bird. Some well use the year. They order at the start of the year. I don't breed enough birds to do that. I order a few and then when I am about out I order a few more. May not order for AFA next time either since I did not renew my membership. Money is to tight so had to pick a couple memberships to renew only in stead of the five I usually have. lol So going for my local bird club. and Quaker Parrot Society.
  5. Ok gang last day for this. Love all the pictures you all have sent in. Also start getting ready for the next contest. Barnyard Birds.
  6. I am in Mississippi Ill ask around. But I don't live in Moss Point. Hey check this out. http://www.orgsites.com/ms/centralmsbirdclub/ It the Mississippi bird club. I am a member we have a great little paper that comes out monthly and meetings in Jackson. Maybe you can make one of two. Also maybe you can email a couple of the other members they might can help you out.
  7. Sent the link to the AFA and this is their reply to me. Sounds like we have nothing to worry about at this time. Thank you Angie, our Legislative VP is watching this Bill closely but at this time, no action is required as we expect it to die in committee. If not, we will be on it, so thanks for the heads up. 8. This is crazy. I am sure the AFA is all over it. If one state passes any crazy laws like this the rest well follow.
  9. Great work. From time to time Que does not want to come out. She well grab my hand and push it away. I take this to mean she is having a bad day and I well let her be. All I have to do is go over a little later and get her. However she has taken to running up the side and only stepping up from the upside down position. lol Wonder if latter work will help her any?
  10. I have two rescues and yes it is a lot of work and money cause one of my rescues was a plucker. I am on a couple of the forums they have emergency fund set up. But I don't think it is tax deductible and the mods decide who is deserving of the money. One of the forums I am on even bought a bird for one of the members because they were moved by something bad that happened to her. They sent pm's to all members asking for donations. However this forum as members more spread out. Spain, England ect so this just may not work for us.

    Banding

Do not post your letters and numbers anywhere. If you like you can post the letters and someone might know the aviary but do not post the numbers. That band is the only sure way to be able to ID your bird so only you should know the bands numbers. However I must tell you the bands I use are from the AFA so they have AFA on them but I think they have a record of who buys the bands.
  12. So when well you be taking her to the vet? Just to make sure it is not an illness. That is what I would do first. Plucking a lot of the time causes skin issues that need to be addressed. Like yeast and it itches. Karma to you for taking this on.
  13. Here is a great right up on clipping wings. http://www.quakerparrots.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=27933 It is a two parter and even has pictures. Hope it helps you out.
  14. Maybe maybe not. It took Que a few years to figure out how to even open an almond. She still drops them from time to time. But well go down and get them when she is ready to work on it. lol
  15. I would not file or trim a beak unless he was having trouble eating. There are a lot of nerves in that beak and filing is pretty hard on them trimming is even harding on them. I have two birds with abnormal beaks. My grey has a slight scissor beak I have never ever had it trimmed. My amazon has an over grown beak. The vet waked it off once. He meant well but I have informed him never to do that again unless I ask. As long as he can eat I wont trim it ever. IMO it is just to hard on them to to make it look nice. If it works don't try to fix it is my moto. lol
  16. Every now and again my baby quakers well have night frights that is why I stopped covering them. I also have a night light in my bedroom and the glow of the computer for the birds in the living room. Seems to stop most of them. Only time they have them now is if the dogs make some racket for whatever reason.
  17. A journal is a great idea. Even better do it on here as a blog so we all can keep up with the progress and what you try that works and don't work.
