  1. I know this is an exciting day for you, the start of the rest of your life with Maverick, just stay calm and be sure to take lots of pictures to share with us of the big day.
  2. We would need to know more to be able to give you any ideas of what might be going on but first things first. Have you taken her to see an avian vet to rule out any physical reasons for the plucking? That is the first route to finding out what is going on, if she is healthy then it is more than likely behavioral and that accounts for most plucking problems. Has there been any changes in her environment, anything different lately because it could be most anything that causes the plucking. It might not seem like anything to us but the slightest change could trigger an episode of plucking so you will have to think back to when she first started it, it could be a new piece of furniture, a new perfume you are wearing, someone new to the household, you get the gist of what I am saying. If you could provide us a picture of her it would help also.
  3. I am not going to try this product on my bird, if Dan and Janet want to try it then that is their business, I just hope it doesn't harm the birds for I know both would feel very sad if one of their birds got hurt by it, no guinea pig here.
  4. Greys tend to favor one person and it seems they do take an instant like to a particular person in this case your boyfriend but you can still have a good relationship with Tango, just not like the one he has with your bf. You may have better luck in interacting with him when your bf is not around, you be the one to give treats and such. Just don't take it personally as he is not disliking you, he just likes someone else better, you will just have to learn to live with second fiddle.
  5. If he is holding his wings lower and panting like the grey in the video then he is sexually aroused, you don't want to encourage this behavior, just say "thank you" and walk away, imagine yourself getting all hot and bothered and not being able to be satisfied, not a pleasant experience.
  6. The only way to know the sex is to have the dna test done. As far as age once they reach 4 or 5 years of age the eye turns yellow and from then on its hard to judge age. Its normal for a grey to only want to interact with one person, thats why it is so important when they are babies to socialize them with other people, greys tend to favor one person. As far as bathing you can provide a large bowl in the cage and maybe he will bathe in it and you can also take him into the shower with you and maybe he will be tempted to get under the spray. If you want to clip his nails be very careful not to clip back too far because you might get the quick and he will bleed, if you have any doubts about doing it yourself then have a professional or an avian vet or technician do it. You can also provide rough perches for him to use as they help to keep the nails from being so sharp.

    A list?

Why don't you take a good look thru the bird food room, you will find lots of threads on what they can and can't have.
  8. Tango does not let something like a "satellite dish" keep him from playing to the crowd, what a ham, he is adorable and he knows it, thanks for sharing that video with us.

    Help!

Greys will scratch at the bars and especially the floor of the cage wanting out, my grey will still do it from time to time and she is 6 years old. I think she needs more time out of her cage, my grey comes out when I get home from work and is out for 4 or more hours every evening and more on weekends when I am home, too much time spent in their cage is not good for them. They need and want human interaction if only to sit by you or be close to you when you are doing things even when you are sitting and watching tv. Yes as said by others peanuts are only a treat, it cannot be their only food, provide a seed mix, pellets, fresh foods like vegetables, rice, grain, legumes and some protein, browse thru the bird food room for ideas and suggestions of what to offer, save the peanuts for training or rewards for good behavior.
  10. You can look them up online and compare the ingredient lists on each, you can even contact the companies and they will send you samples of their product.
  11. I agree Ray, bring on more pictures, we can never get enough. Tango is very beautiful and photogenic.
  12. My grey, Josey has a split level cage, it is higher on one side with a playtop on the lower side, she loves to play on the playtop and it has a toy hook that she perches on sometimes, it is so funny to watch her slide down that when she is ready to come down. Some birds use playtops and some don't.
  13. I personally feed Harrisons to my grey, it is the only pellets I have tried and she eats them so I leave well enough alone, it comes highly recommended by a lot of avian vets.
  14. Hey Carl, I am at work also, I check it when I log on then when I log off I am off the site, it doesn't remember your passwords or anything, it just keeps you logged in until you log yourself off.
  15. Its not going to do any harm to leave your grey caged up for one week if the care giver is uncomfortable with allowing her out, I have had to do the same thing, they are usually so glad to see you when you get back that all is forgiven.
  16. Carl, all you have to do when you log in is to check the "remember me" box right under where you put your name and password and you stay logged in.
  17. He does look an awful lot like Nilah, time will tell, beautiful bird.
  18. Well hello Gabby, bet she feels like she has died and gone to heaven, she has a bigger cage, lots of food and Bongo even sharing what he has, she is one lucky fid to have found you and your husband is a saint, he sounds like a keeper. She looks great and that leg doesn't hinder her at all in climbing and playing, you both are truly blessed to have one another.
  19. Small steps is great, you are doing so well with Timber, you gave him a choice and he understands enough to know which he preferred, he has come a long way and there may be days when it seems you have taken a step back but don't let it get you down for you have accomplished a lot, way to go girl.
  20. Carl is right, if you are feeding Marco a well rounded diet then additional vitamins are not needed, only give if your avain vet recommends them as too much can be harmful in itself. Those poor birds, maybe someone needs to educate this man on the proper care of parrots.
  21. The bird club I belong to has an annual bird fair where I pick up lots of toys and things for my fids, I love going to these.
  22. Banner is a big green amazon, very pretty, no wonder you were captured so easily, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  23. Welcome back and sad to hear you no longer have Sachi but glad that she has a new forever home. Those amazons can be heart stealers if you allow them to and this one certainly pulled at your heart strings but it sounds like he is getting along just fine. Now does this mean you are no longer getting the jardine's parrot?
