I've heard that caiques are busy little birds, very active so it seems Kyra is fitting the profile nicely, she looks like she enjoys her food from the pictures you shared of her, she is a cute little bugger getting right into the plate of food to help herself.

I totally agree with Dave, its not so much the breeder but the person who takes that grey home that has the most impact on the bird's life and how it relates to people in the way they handle and treat the bird. A bird has its own personality which is predetermined by its species and parents and since it is with the breeder a short period of time they do not have the impact on it that the people who take it into their home will have, just like human children it is all in the upbringing of the child that determines in the most part of what kind of person that child will turn into. I think you expect too much of a breeder from what I have read, you shouldn't demand to see the parents of the babies as the parents do not like human interference and most breeders would not allow it. You seem to have found a good breeder in your opening post in this thread so go for it if you want a grey Now about whether taking a male or female it is another misconception that opposites attract, that males bond easier with females and vice versa, well that is hogwash for my grey is a female and she is bonded with me. My answer to you is if you truly want a grey then get one and accept whatever personality it has and enjoy what you have as no two birds will be alike, many members here have birds that will do things that my bird will not but its all in the individual bird, if you want a grey then get it but take what you get.

I went back to one of your earlier threads and found out it was a blue and gold macaw, knew when you said he used to be a cage mate of Oliver he had to be some kind of macaw. I know you wanted it to happen this weekend but once it does happen it will be his last home but understand how his present owner must feel about losing him to another person but he should feel good about where he is going for he will be well cared for. I can't wait to see pictures of Bubba.
-
Why do you think he may turn against you in the future? You are his caregiver, his companion, the one he spends his time with so if you treat him with respect and answer all his needs he will be your best buddy, once he trusts you completely you will have a faithful companion for the rest of his life. I assume you live alone but if in the future another person joins the flock then the interactions and dynamics may change somewhat but he will still be your companion.

You can clearly see why the comments portion was disabled, you would think those comments would tell them something but some people are idiots and there is no cure except hopefully they do not procreate themeselves.

I haven't seen that particular video but I can imagine that is would be very helpful as she knows her stuff and what works, maybe I should try watching that for Josey's talons usually stay very sharp even with rough perches in her cage.

Thats great that you figured out Missy prefers to eat from a certain type bowl and if it works then use it to the fullest extent, maybe she likes the "square" meal instead of a more rounded one. They can be funny and particular about what they like and don't like and its good to hear she is chowing down on those veggies that are so good for her. Greys do not need a lot of fruit in their diet so some twice a week or so is plenty, they need more veggies especially the darker yellow and green ones.

getting my baby aftrican grey in 2 weeks :)
judygram replied to james_uk's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello James and welcome to our family, my that is one sweet little baby grey you have there with that adorable little red nub of a tail. Yes you want to take your time in introducing baby to your 3 year old daughter as she is too young to really understand the behavior of a grey, you should not allow her to get too close until she can understand a grey's bite can be very painful and capable of doing damage to little fingers. You do not want her rushing up to the bird for that might startle him/her and usually birds and especially greys do not take to young children very easily as they tend to be running fast and use quick movements that birds do not like. Be sure to read thru the thread on reading body language, it is in the training room, it will serve you well in the coming months and years but the most important thing is just to relax and enjoy your grey, allow it time to settle into it's new home and feel comfortable and we will be here to help with any questions you may have. -
Hello Cindy and welcome to our family, why don't you tell us more about Cocoa and Pepper, how old, how long have you had them and so forth and we would love to see some pictures too if you have some.
-
Hello Burkinagin and welcome to our family, so glad you finally realized your dream of owning a grey. Dan is right, you need to learn to read his body language as it will serve you two well in the coming months and years to deal with Wozzi, there is a thread in the training room that will be very helpful The first few days were the honeymoon phase which means Wozzi was on his best behavior and now more of his true personality is coming thru, he may be holding a grudge against Ken because he left him but then he found a new best friend in you. He may never allow him to do with him what he allows you to do but that doesn't mean they can't have a good relationship. He will probably interact better with him if you are not around, have him take him to a neutral room to work with him, let him be the one to give him treats and allow Wozzi to make the decision to want more to do with him. We always welcome pictures here so if you have some of Wozzi you would share with us that would be greyt and maybe one of that awesome cage.

You can feed most anything on the list as birds do not know the meaning of breakfast, lunch and dinner, feed him whatever you like, they tend to eat all day and not in meals like we do so make sure he has some food available at all times. Well you can add this breeder to the list of undesirables so you know not to go back for any more birds and if anyone asks about them tell them the truth for these kind of people is what gives all of them a bad name and there are reputable ones out there. A good breeder would not allow you to take home an unweaned bird as it is dangerous if something should go wrong but it looks like you are handling it just fine.

Your pair may prove us wrong but I do hope it works out in your favor but healthy chicks will be the answer.
-
I think Ray is right, two are twice the fun or twice the trouble but Shadow is a lovely grey and its surprising how you will notice the differences between her and Lola.
-
I hope it all works out for you but be prepared if it doesn't.
-
Usually pet greys will not breed for they need privacy and to be left alone by humans which means no interaction with them at all except to feed and water them.
-
You are to be commended for giving Bubba a new forever home and I hope it all works out for you.
-
I so wish I had your problem, maybe I should visit the UK again like right now.
-
What a little cutie pie and I love his color too, might be 2 years before you know if you have a male or not, I think it takes that long for the ring to appear unless you go with dna, oh boy, I will not get one, I will not get one, I will not get one, oh not convinced yet.
-
Every grey should have a big bell they can bang around, they love to play fight with them so a heavy duty one is required, that is the one thing I do not rotate out for she would be lost without it.
-
I have a soft spot in my heart for ringnecks, would love to have one and Susu is a beautiful specimen especially since he is a male for he has that ring that the females don't have, thanks for sharing him with us.
-
Why not look in the dog section of pet stores and look for crocks or heavy dishes that are large enough for a grey to get into and not turn over, they would be excellent to put in a cage or area for your bird to bathe in if so inclined.
-
The link provided didn't give dimensions but it says large enough for greys so it should be fine.
-
You have two of the same type birds I have, the grey and the sun conure, yours are very pretty birds, nice to be able to see what Sophie looks like.
-
We have been using this exterminating service for longer than I have had birds and no smell and the birds are fine, as I said I won't allow them to treat the inside of the house because of the birds. We have wood siding on our house and we were afraid not to treat the outside for fear of a termite invasion.

Brandi was a good girl but you can leave the cucumber out as it has very little nutritional value except water, why not try some dark green leafy vegetables.
