    cage

Willo is one lucky grey to be out all day as most of our greys have to spend a good part of the day inside their cage since we work so nothing wrong with that, she sounds like a delightful bird especially since she knows where to go to poop, you have trained her well. Why should she use her cage if she has so many available perches, ropes, playstands and such to play and spend her time, she is nicely spoiled but in a good way, consider yourself lucky to have such an arrangement for her to enjoy, I see nothing wrong with what you are doing, keep up the good work.
  2. I like the second one better too as it is roomier and bigger is always better and you might find your grey will love the playtop as most do and its cheaper too, always a good plus, free shipping also.
  3. What a great little friend and pretty too, thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. You are so right for we do take life for granted, sometimes we forget that life is precious and we all only have a limited time on this earth and you do not have to look far to find someone else with more problems than we have so take each day as a gift and live life to its fullest until your day is called. So sorry for your loss of Mimi.
  5. We have a woodstove and 2 fireplaces so they would be utilized to stay warm in the event of a power outage, I think it is important for everyone to have some kind of backup for just such situations for it seems to happen more and more especially for us who live in the country. It wouldn't have to be a woodstove but some kind of heater that runs on something other than electricity.
  6. So glad to hear that Maui is home safe and sound, its always wonderful to hear these types of endings to lost stories and maybe the man who found him will consider giving another bird a new home now that he has had a taste of bird companionship.
  7. Its the kakapo parrot of New Zealand and there are only 122 of them left.
  8. Oh my gosh, that last pic is awesome, they are all good pictures but that last one takes the cake, thanks for sharing them with us.

    Blood?

If you don't find any kind of injury then it more than likely was a broken blood feather and it stopped bleeding on its own.
  10. Like Dan said, please tell us more about yourself and whether you have a grey or other birds so we can get to know you better.
  11. I do allow all three of my birds on my shoulder, of course two of them are small type birds but Josey, my grey is allowed to shoulder sit for periods of time every day, she behaves herself and comes down when I ask so she has earned her priviledge to be there. It is totally a personal choice, if you do not feel comfortable with your grey shoulder sitting then do not allow it.
  12. Hello Tina and welcome to our family and congrats on finally getting your grey. I like your way of thinking, wish all people who purchase greys would do the research to find out if one is a good fit for their household, too many people plunge in and later regret it and then the rehoming process starts and sometimes it becomes a vicious circle, kudos to you for doing your homework. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your new little companion.
  13. And a beautiful girl at that, just look at her little red knickers, congrats.
  14. Hello Missy and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. I would offer the vegetables in different ways, raw, cooked, mashed, chopped or other ways to see which way he prefers them, he may like his carrots raw, his sweet potatoes mashed and so forth, sometimes they will eat a particular one a certain way and not the other so experiment to find out. About the biting, he is young, just a baby and they use their beak as a human baby child would use their hands, they explore and he is testing you also so when he bites tell him firmly "No, no bite" and put him back on the stand and turn your back on him for a few minutes then try again. It also helps to be able to read his body language and there is a thread about that in the training room, it will prove to be very helpful in the coming days, weeks, months and years.
  15. I don't have a dog or cat inside anymore so the cleaning up has to be done by me but occasionally my daughter brings her dog with her on visits and he does a real good job of picking up the scraps.
  16. That something was your gut telling you that you were not ready to take on 4 birds but tiels are easy to take care of and when the time is right by all means go for it, they make wonderful little companions.

    Question

Yes at 6 years of age Josey will still occasionally do the scratching, just be grateful your baby wants to be with you.
  18. I must admit that when I first saw the title of this thread I immediately assumed it was about the utterance of a bad four letter word by one of your feathered companions but yes that four letter word is dreaded too but not too many more years it won't be for me.
  19. And that flinging of food in the wild probably provides food for other species of bugs and animals as it distributes it out over a wider area so it is found and eaten by other life forms but it can be a nuisance to us with caged birds for we have to clean up the mess they leave behind.
  20. I have to echo Dave's post, you need to take Bogey to the vet and do not waste any time for he has probably been sick for a while, you should know that birds hide illness until they can no longer do so, please let us know what you find out.
  21. That was amazing, thanks.
  22. We are so blessed and do not even know it.
  23. What a woman, what a heart, no words needed, thanks Dave.
  24. It looks great, you did a good job on it and so glad DJ jumped right on it, of course he is a young grey so they take to new things quicker than older birds do, you could make these and sell them.
  25. I bet when you are able to get the stress under control Momo will decrease or eliminate the screaming, be sure to bring that up at the vet's office tomorrow.
