  1. I made one of those and Josey won't step foot on it, she is still scared of it, if I didn't live half a world away you could have had that one as it is doing her no good, can't wait to see what you come up with.
  2. Ask him the same things you have been asking us, tell him what he does but the previous poster may have hit the nail on the head, stress is a big factor and may be at the root of your problem, deal with that and lessen the amount of stress and see if it makes a difference, bet it does.
  3. Hello Jrsygrl and welcome to our family, sorry it took me so long to answer your thread. You have already been given some good advice so I will answer your last question, if you cover your bird cage at night just use a flat sheet, I have black ones I use for this purpose, they are cheap and easy to clean so no need to buy those expensive covers they make, my greys cage is large so I use the king size sheet. I use newspaper on the bottom of the cages, it can be easily replaced with clean paper and you can observe the color and consistency of poops that way, of course all their cages have the grates in the bottom to keep them from getting to the paper.
  4. Hello Heidi and welcome to our family, you have a beautiful grey there. You say he came to you clipped, are you going to allow the wing feathers to grow out so he may be capable of flight? He may not be very good at it especially if he has been clipped since he was fledged but at least he could give it a try. About the bathing, have you considered taking him into the shower with you, he could sit nearby even if not in the spray and maybe in time he will get underneath it and enjoy some water, mine doesn't like a shower too much either but she tolerates it without screaming. Thanks for including a pic of him in your intro post and we hope to be hearing a lot more about you and him and of course lots of pictures are always welcomed.
  5. She is a real cutie, a precious little thing, looking forward to the next phase, thanks for sharing.
  6. Of course he told you it is possible, he wants to sell you a bird doesn't he. Dave IS a breeder of greys and he knows his stuff, this is a wild animal we are talking about and you cannot mess with trying to flip their sleep schedule for if you do you are asking for trouble, you want the best for your new companion don't you and you already know it is difficult enough for us to change our internal clock so imagine how it will be for an animal that doesn't understand what you are trying to accomplish. My opinion is to wait a while and see if your schedule changes to a daylight one and then consider getting a grey, just my opinion.
  7. Good customer service is always a plus, will have to keep them in mind if I need another cage.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss but it looks like you have some good memories to remember.
  9. The only time my birds use a sleep cage is when they spend the night away from home and that is usually Josey who accompanies me when I go visit my son and she is covered whether at home or away but I usually set her cage on the floor and she is fine with it.
  10. You want to try this again as the facebook one doesn't work either.
  11. I am going to place my first order to this company for some nuts but I usually purchase pecans in bulk from Sunnyland Farms, I usually get 10 pounds and they are cheaper per pound than from this site and are the best I have ever eaten, of course they are shipped in the fall right after harvest.
  12. Hello Daniel and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Ruby is a beautiful grey and since you have had her for many years I bet you have some stories to tell of her exploits, bet she has quite a vocabulary of words and phrases that she repeats when it amuses her. Thanks so much for including a pic of her and one of Virgil in your intro post.
  13. Misty is a greyt little helper, so glad you took some pictures and shared them with us.
  14. Very well said Penny and I too have been guilty of giving my opinion and sometimes quite bluntly but I find that as I get older I am less inhibited to hold back but I hope I have not hurt anyones feelings in the process because it is not my intention to do so. Like Dan in hindsight I see how I might have handled it better but no one is perfect and I have the best intentions in trying to be helpful to anyone in need of it. We do all have personal things going on in our lives, some have more to bear than others but we need to remember that we are all family here and should try to treat one another as such.
  15. After a bobbing session just replace the water in her dish, you may have to do this several times a day, would love to see a picture or a short video of her bobbing for pellets.
  16. What a little cutie pie, amazons are not for me but I love to see other's birds.
  17. Yes please share some pictures of Opey as we would love to see him.
  18. Maybe it will encourage eating pellets without dunking them first but at least some pellets are going inside the bird, Josey does not dunk her pellets but she does some other foods I give her as she usually has some kind of concoction by the end of the day.
  19. You have two greyt pictures of your grey and it looks like some hamming around was going on for the camera, wonderful shots and so glad you shared them with us.
  20. Hello Mjv and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Yes waiting until August to bring your baby home will seem like forever but spend the time learning all you can before that big day so you will be prepared for it. I can see Piper is going to be one spoiled grey and the three of you look quite the happy flock, he/she will grow and change quickly into a beautiful bird and its good you get to visit and hold him/her. If you have any questions feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you in any way we can.
  21. Roxie looks like a real sweetheart, thanks for sharing the pic with us.
  22. Who knows they may actually get along together but don't count on it.
  23. I think its obvious who won this competition though it didn't follow thru with the presentation. Dave posted it because he thought we would enjoy watching perfection and we do, also he has a lot of time on his hands to scour the internet, thanks Dave.
  24. I didn't mean to sound so harsh but if we are going to be good stewards of bird ownership then we owe it to them to be prepared for whatever happens and that means knowing where good vets are in case we need them. When you get your next grey you should have it checked out by an avian vet and run blood work so you know you are getting a healthy bird. I know you want to fill that void in your heart because you are hurting but don't rush into anything until you are ready to take care of another grey, not to replace him because you will never forget him but because you have lots of love to give, the one you lost knew that too.
