    day 8!

They like variety just like we do so maybe because he ate one thing one day he may not want it the next day so vary what he gets and it is true that sometimes when we offer a particular food and they don't eat it keep offering it for many times one day they will eat it, they can be finicky just like small children and in fact they will always be just like them for the rest of their lives. Don't sweat the small stuff.
  2. Hello Ashley and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you are finally going to realize your dream of having an african grey, you won't be disappointed especially if you wait for the baby to be weaned before you bring it home. Please read thru the many threads here for lots of useful information, we have many rooms that deal with different subjects and you will find most of the answers to the questions you may have and many for some you may never have thought of but certainly read and research all you can before the baby comes home.
  3. Rocky is not about to let pizza come into the house and he not get a bite, nothing will be safe from his beak now that he has found his wings, it will make it more fun when you have more than one bird flying around the house.
  4. Sounds like dander, all greys have it.
  5. That middle picture of him against your chest is so precious and it looks like he knows he has hit the jackpot, poor dear to have had to suffer the way he has for so long but you know that time and patience will do wonders and I predict it will happen with Gus and he will gradually get over his fears or they will lessen in time. Like Dee I don't know how you juggle all those birds especially with the big birds, you must have a heart big as the sky.
  6. Hello Mark and welcome to our family. Lucky you living next door to a wonderful grey that ends up needing a new home, talk about landing in your lap, Frankie sounds like a real sweetheart and he is starting to adjust to his new digs as it helps that he already knew you so all is not entirely strange to him. You will find lots of advice and tips by reading thru many of the threads as most types of questions have already been asked and advice given but we don't mind if you ask even if it sounds silly to you for we have heard them all. We look forward to hearing lots more about him and maybe a picture of him if you have some you would share with us.
  7. Hello Kristen and welcome to our family. Loki looks like a real sweetheart of a grey, have you had him from the time he was weaned? Thanks so much for including a picture of him with you in your intro post, its nice to put a face with a name.
  8. Well welcome Gus to the family, just one more to love and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the flock handles this new addition, Gus is gorgeous and of course you had to take him.
  9. What a sweet looking grey and I can see you are having the time of your life.
  10. Another thing is you can't stay in the room with him all the time so when you are out of his sight and he calls just answer him with I am still here or whatever you want it to be and it will let him know you are still around even though he cannot see you, this will continue on into later years as he needs the reassurance he has not been left alone.
  11. When he has been quiet for 5 or 10 minutes then reward him for being quiet, this is something he will outgrow as he weans off the formula and he goes to making chatter but you do not want to enforce bad behavior but reward the good, this too shall pass.
  12. Hello Bri and welcome to our family. You have a lovely grey, Rosie does look like she has quite a long neck but then she is perked up looking at something intently.
  13. You have a sweet looking family, two nice birds, a funny looking dog and a pretty little girl. What kind of conure does she want?
  14. It definitely sounds like he is begging, either for food or attention, you can tell that by his stance and he is looking right at you, the best thing you can do is just ignore it for if you go to him or give him some food he will continue to do it.
  15. Now you know what to ask for Christmas, do you have a smart phone as they take video as well as pictures?
  16. Yes Susan we would love to see a video of that, I second Janet's hint. Last year I quit listening to a particular radio station I used to love because they started playing all Christmas music the week before Thanksgiving, thats just too early so I changed the channel, I hear this year they didn't start until Thanksgiving Eve so I wasn't the only one by a long shot. I love Christmas music but at the proper time of the season.
  17. Dave gave excellent advice as always but I must say you are lucky that the two of them get along so nicely as many of us would welcome your situation. I hope you get the photo thing figured out so we can see both of them.
  18. I can imagine she didn't want anything to do with you as greys are very insecure of anything new or different but glad to hear all is fine now.
  19. Welcome back Susan.

  20. How lucky you were to find Chico and he sounds like a well adjusted grey, I would follow the other's advice about placing him in the same room as Fig and keeping the proper pecking order so things go smoothly. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of Chico when you get it figured out.
  21. Its hard not to get sucked in when you see young birds or ones in need of a new home but you have to think of the ones you already have, if you are hard pressed right now to give them the time and attention they need then taking on another makes no sense no matter how adorable them seem, we have to know our limits or all we have will suffer for it.
  22. Mocha is such a pretty bird, maybe Cocoa was just trying to give Mocha a chance to swing.
  23. I do see Leo and he is one handsome fella, now that you have mastered the art of posting pictures please indulge us with more.
  24. Welcome back Chloe's mom, I think you are Susan if I remember correctly, where have you been lately, haven't seen you on facebook either, glad you could come and rejoin our family and looking forward to seeing some new pics of Chloe.

    Potty training

If you are going to live with birds you have to get used to having things pooped on, I use sheets too to protect the back of the couch and chair where they like to sit on when I am with them but with leather you would have to also be concerned with puncture holes. The way I see it their poop is not like cat or dog poop which is much larger and stinks, at least bird poop is much smaller and has hardly any odor, it doesn't bother me as it probably doesn't most of us bird people, we take the bad along with the good and the good far outweighs the bad, just my opinion.
