  1. I personally would not take any of my birds to pet stores, you just never know what they may be exposed to from the other birds they have for sale but Josey would be very afraid of the experience and like Dave said they are different from macaws.
  2. You will just have to try it and see what happens, my grey likes to travel with me, she does real good in a travel cage playing and chatting away as we ride to our destination, make it a fun experience and I bet she will love being with you on travels.
  3. Hello Audrey and welcome to our family. Congrats on finally getting your grey and that is one profound statement, "she is such a sweet girl" that says volumes about how she has adjusted to a new home and bonded with another parront, hopefully her last. Please do browse thru all the threads for you will find a wealth of information from like members, most firsthand experience, you will probably find a lot of the answers to some of your questions but ask away if you have some specific ones. Pictures are always welcomed.
  4. Dave is right, the more the better but as many of us have to work it limits the time they are out, just make the most of the time they are out and include them in activities going on in the household, they love being a part of everything.
  5. You can get those pans at Bed, Bath and Beyond and probably Walmart so save yourself some shipping and find them there.
  6. What an adorable baby you have, quite the camera ham, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  7. Happy New Year to you too Dave and to all the members of greyforums, may this new year be the best one yet for one and all.
  8. Some birds just don't need to be in front of a window for they see things moving outside and if there are any birds flying around it scares them because they think they are predators, my sun conure is always startled by anything she sees out the window like a bird flying by and even the limbs of trees if the wind is moving them so just use caution about putting them in that situation unless they are ok with it.
  9. That is a good sized cage for the money, I would buy it if I needed another cage for a grey.

    Clipped or not

All of my birds are flighted but my sun conure was clipped when I first got her and I clipped her a couple more times then never again, she only takes flight now when startled but my tiel likes to take laps around the room, Josey chooses to not fly but she will get down on the floor and do walkabout to me. I do understand that some do clip their bird's wings but they have their reasons and I respect them for that, not everyone can handle having flighted birds around.
  11. We all have bad days at times and they do not like being ignored, thats what he was trying to tell you when he came in and bit at you, get up and come intertain me is what he was trying to tell you, the little buggers.
  12. I can see how you would be panicked at seeing the blood and his toes caught, he didn't understand you were just trying to get him loose but these things happen, glad it wasn't his blood for it could have been worse, hope he doesn't refuse to go inside the carrier the next time you want to take him somewhere for they do remember. Thanks for sharing the pictures of them enjoying their boings.
  13. Such precious little things, so adorable I just want to scoop them up and snuggle the daylights out of them.
  14. My grey Josey doesn't like it either but she tolerates it, some members here have greys who love to shower and bathe, wish Josey did for she won't even open her wings to get the water underneath so I do the best I can.
  15. If you teach your young children the proper way to interact with your birds then you shouldn't have much problem but young kids do tend to be loud and fast moving, things that greys do not like. Your new grey may not take to your son right off but if he takes it slow and easy and listens to his mother on proper behavior then there is a great chance they will be friends.
  16. Dayo does love his mommy and is quite the chatterbox, I love to hear him talk in your voice Dan.
  17. I do not shower with my birds because they like the water cooler than I want for my shower so I just take Josey in at other times and use the shower head on her with the cooler water but it will be interesting to hear how the others who do shower with their birds do, I know a few don't actually take their bird under the water, they just perch nearby and get the water vapor the shower gives off.
  18. Hello Tayla and welcome to our family. Congrats on your new addition to the family, is he the only bird you have right now? It sounds like you are having a good time with him as he has been camping with you, they do enjoy spending time with the family even if not at home. Its perfectly natural for him to pick favorites but he can still have a good relationship with those less favored, it will just be different, let them be the ones to give treats so he knows they can be good people to have around. I would strongly recommend you supervise any time he is out with the dog, even though they get along well you just never know when in a split second things could change, he is a dog after all and can never be fully trusted. There are a couple of stickys in the photography room that will help you with how to post photos in the forum so be sure to check them out.
  19. Happy Birthday Ray, I hope it is a good one and you are blessed with much happiness, good luck to you in the coming new year, may it be the best one yet.

  20. Dave is saying that it sounds like you don't know what you are doing and if you are going to breed african greys then you better start studying all the ins and outs of what to do, what to expect and everything associated with it because if you don't know what you are doing then its better to leave it to people who do, sorry this sounds harsh but sometimes the truth hurts. Dave is a long time breeder of greys and he will be the first to tell you its not something you do on a whim or without knowing what you are getting into, the possible lives of any babies you might have will depend on it.
  21. This cage is just like Josey's cage and she loves the playtop on one side like that, very nice.
  22. I'd like to have a few minutes with the bastards who do such things to capture birds, so glad to hear they will be eventually returned to their natural habitat, the poor souls, heartbreaking.
  23. I'll stick with my sun conure, her screams are the only annoying ones at times, I know my limits.
  24. Just when you thought it would never happen it does, Gracie wanted to keep you guessing, never underestimate the power of a grey, congrats on a great milestone.
  25. Another small step in the many that will come in the near future, patience has its rewards so enjoy.
