  1. Her eyes look kind of wicked when she is wet, you can just see the mayhem that is going thru her mind as she plots her next adventure, oh no, "make it stop, make it stop, make it stop"
  2. Happy Belated Hatchday Cricket, you don't look a day over 5, hope it was the very best day so far.
  3. I am so sorry to hear of Luna's troubles and I do hope it heals nicely and there is no permanent damage as nerve damage can heal itself in time. This is exactly why I chose not to have the band put on Josey, I to have heard horror stories of how birds have been severely damaged when they catch it on something, I have the band in my possession and that is all that counts. Poor dear but at least she is drawing comfort from being closer to you, a bright spot in light of the hardship she had to endure, may she be fully recovered by the new year.

    Plucking?

She appreciates that so much for you are getting at the ones she cannot reach, she is in birdie heaven.
  5. All will be forgiven soon, good luck to you on your exams.
  6. Merry Christmas Howardine and to Precious also.
  7. Some of the online stores I order from will tell you what types of birds their toys are suited to, like the small is for keets, tiels and such and medium to large for greys, the large or extra large would be for the macaws or toos. Depending on the toy a tag would fit in the medium to large category.
  8. I have found that anything we are eating they want some too and a little Cheetos now and then is not going to hurt them, in fact that is how my hubby feeds Josey her cheddar cheese, he sticks it between his lips and she takes it and devours it, the only thing she eats that there is never a crumb left.
  9. We cover the cages when we bring our real tree inside to set it up and then uncover, they hardly notice the tree that way versus trying to bring it into the room and they freak out, not one of my birds bother the tree in fact they avoid it entirely but Gypsy, the tiel, will sit on a branch when I took her over to it, she is the more adventurous of my three.
  10. As the two before me have stated it will take time for your little one to settle into his new home and feel comfortable so allow him to set the pace of what he wants to do, do not rush him for more than he is willing to give and you will be rewarded, think in terms of small steps but I bet in a few weeks or months things will be a lot different than they are right now.
  11. Hello Arecibo's Mom and welcome to our family. I edited your link address so it shows up now, thanks for including a pic of Cibo in your intro post. Is this your first grey, your first parrot? You will learn a lot from reading thru the many threads here so do that at your leisure but do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  12. Hello Mike and welcome to our family. I can relate to the "tock" sound, I guess all our greys pretty much do the same sound, sort of like a click with their beak that means back off a little or not right now, you do learn quickly some of the ways they communicate their wishes to us. Greys do tend to get more independent as they get older, sometimes they are just content to be near but not right on you, Josey will come over and sit by me sometimes while I am watching tv or looking over my shoulder as I type on the computer, of course she sometimes has to battle for my attention from the other two birds I have but usually as long as there is a little distance between them all is well.
  13. They make all kinds of cling things you can put on your windows, some are very attractive that would serve the purpose of letting your birds know there is something there that prevents them flying right thru them.
  14. Hello Mrsray and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you were willing to give Wally a new forever home, he will need time to settle in and feel comfortable so give him plenty of time and be patient as he goes thru the changes, he will let you know when he is ready for more interaction. I highly doubt Wally will ever be "friends" with the dogs especially chihuahuas as they are notorious for lots of barking at anything and everything and yes Wally could take an ear off of one of them or do serious damage but there is also the possibility of one of the dogs getting a bite in on Wally and they have bacteria in their mouths that could make Wally very sick or die so you must supervise any time he is out with the dogs present. On the plus side though is the dogs will keep the floor clean around the cage for any food flung out will end up in the dog's stomachs.
  15. Hello Chris and welcome to our family. Congrats on your new addition of Rosie and it is perfectly natural for them to be stressed at first, after all everything is new and different to her and she needs time to settle into her new home and feel comfortable so just allow her plenty of time and be very patient with her. She is a beautiful baby grey, I saw the picture in your other thread, I just love the baby eyes, so sweet and adorable at this age.
  16. It never ceases to amaze me how special our greys can be and what an awesome story, thanks Sanggay for sharing it with us.
  17. Hello Hushnet and welcome to our family. I commend you for learning all you can before committing to owning one of these awesome creatures because you need to know what to expect before you plunge into it. I would imagine it would not be difficult since you have had experience with toos but you have come to the right place to mingle with people who actually own one or more of these birds and can help answer questions you may have. You will get a good idea of how it is to live with a grey just by reading thru the many threads as lots of the members share stories of their adventures with their greys, though they share common traits each one is an individual and no two are exactly alike. From the sound of your opening post it would appear you are leaning toward adopting a rehomed grey, they usually take longer to gain their trust but well worth the effort.
  18. It is impossible to completely find all the things that could possibly harm our fids and with Murphy's law if it is there they will find it, glad it turned out ok for Storm.
  19. That was so cute Janet, thanks for sharing it with us.
  20. Chloe didn't like that the nut got the better of her but give her a while and she will be back on them, you can always start them for her then she can still have the fun of digging it out.
  21. Welcome to the moderator team Sanggay, I know you will do a wonderful job just like your photography.

  22. During the weekdays I get home about 4:30 to 5 pm and Josey gets out as soon as I get home and stays out until she goes to bed around 9 to 9:30 pm, I interact with her a little in the mornings before I leave and on the weekends she is out most of the day.
  23. Congrats Sanggay on making moderator status and I wholeheartedly agree you are the perfect choice for this room, your pictures and video you have shared with us is breathtaking, I look forward to seeing what what you do with this room.
  24. If you have done your homework and know what you are getting into then the answer is yes and it will be a lifelong committment, one where you may outlive your grey. You have to devote some time every day to the care of your grey, the bird needs time out of the cage, the proper diet, toys to keep them busy and medical care when needed which means money needs to be set aside for possible emergencies but even for routine care. What are your plans for after you graduate high school, are you planning to go to college, if so can you still care for your grey? There are a lot of considerations here and you must be dedicated to the health and welfare of this bird which means are you willing to do what it takes to share the companionship with one of these magnificient creatures for they deserve no less.
  25. Thats so funny about the fart sound for Josey does that too but usually just after uncovering her cage in the mornings. Its good to hear that she is responding more favorably to your offers for contact, sometimes it seems like it will never happen and then boom, out of nowhere she is taking you up on your attempts to put your hand on her but they certainly do try our patience.
