  1. Hello Pam and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Dorian. I commend you for taking on this task, not everyone is up to taking on a rehomed grey but with our help I think you will do just fine. No you certainly cannot give her up now, she needs to know this is her final home and you will be there for her from now on. This will take a lot of time and patience but the reward will be worth every minute of it. This always makes me so mad and sad at the same time to hear of how former owners have treated these creatures, how could they do that to them, they just want our love and attention, no wonder she has issues. Never think any question you ask is stupid, you can't learn anything if you don't ask so no matter how silly it sounds do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information, you will probably find some of the answers there already. If she is talking up a storm she is somewhat comfortable already in her new home and she will mimic sounds very well as you have already found out. You have a great heart and you did the right thing in coming here and joining our family, as part of that we will do our best to help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Dorian you would like to share with us we would love to see her.
  2. Yeah and maybe set up some hurdles and see if they will jump over that, now that would be a sight to see:laugh:
  3. Thanks Dan for providing that link, it just takes one little spook and a quick second and your baby is gone, maybe forever and they are too precious to take the risk.
  4. DavE it does have it's advantages and the main one is the fact that some people don't want their birds flying all over the house or get up high in a cathedral ceiling and not be able to get to them. A few take theirs outside thinking that nothing will happen to them with their wings clipped and that is wishful thinking. If you don't want your's clipped then don't, simple as that. It tends to make them more dependent on us to take them where they want or need to go since they can't fly there.
  5. Hello Tyretosmom and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Raven. We welcome your participation in our forum, the more the merrier, as you can tell we have fun here besides just sharing information about our greys and helping out with each other's grey problems. I don't know what the ages of your children are, but very young children should be kept at a safe distance from Raven until you are sure they can handle it. Most greys do not like the quick moving actions and loudness of young children, it makes them nervous and nervous greys tend to bite, but yes they do need to be included in the activities with Raven but not hands on yet. If you haven't already please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Raven you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  6. I agree with Tracy, even clipped they can be startled and take flight, there are some threads here that will tell you exactly that so take him out in a small travel cage or on some type of harness, don't take chances with your precious Max.
  7. You would probably be better off clipping the wings since you do have small children and husband and friends coming in and out of the house, if someone inadvertently left the door open then escape could happen. I would wait until your baby is home and learns to fly and land properly before clipping, that is important for them to be able to do that then you can get the wings clipped.
  8. Thanks Spooky for updating us on this and I share your sentiments too Penny:angry:
  9. That may be why she does that, she is fully flighted and flys so she decided to jump because she can. Josey does not do this, she climbs down, of course she is not flighted yet, her wing feathers haven't molted in yet.
  10. I don't know how far you have to go outside to get to your car but I just take Josey out with no covering her cage and put her in the vehicle even in cold temps. The vehicle is warmed up first and of course I don't have to go far, I have a carport so I just take her out the door and several steps away is the vehicle. What you suggest is fine, that little bit of cold is not going to hurt him, now if it was much colder or the wind is blowing hard then maybe I would cover the cage somewhat.
  11. Thanks for the update Siobhan and that was great!!!:cheer:
  12. That cage sounds fine to put him in from the start, you may not want to put any perches up real high in the cage as they can still be a little clumsy and might fall off a perch. If you are getting your baby fully weaned he does not need any more hand feeding, now I give Josey a morning meal of a little oatmeal with some baby food in it and I feed it to her with a small spoon. This is just part of her daily routine and she enjoys it, I also add a little red palm oil to it. I would put maybe 5 to 6 toys in the cage to start with and have others you can exchange out, they get tired of the same ones and you can rotate them out and put in new ones or the same ones they haven't played with for a while. You can do this every couple of weeks.
  13. LMAO, I missed it by a mile:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  14. Yes it will Ashley, but just think of the light at the end of the tunnel, that baby will be home forever and ever and you will have the best of times together, the best things in life are worth waiting for:P B)
  15. Ashley you do have a wait for yours, just hatched on the 27th of this month but the wait will be worth it then you will have a lifetime of happiness together. You give very good advice too, read, read and read some more and ask lots of questions.
  16. See I told you that day would get here and it did, congrats on bringing that loved one home and now the real fun begins, I want to know how it goes while he is settling in and pictures please when you get the chance.
  17. I wish you could have got that sun you wanted, I know you would enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine, she is my constant little companion, likes nothing better than to hang on to me all the time.
  18. You know a lot of people describe baby greys as mini dinasaurs and I guess they do resemble one but they are cute regardless and thanks for sharing that with us Claire.
  19. Charlie is a cutie, now what kind of bird is it? I don't know all the birds but glad he picked you, you are so lucky and be sure to thank your Mom for coming thru for you, moms can be like that sometimes. Congrats on your new addition to your flock and thanks for sharing him with us.
  20. I didn't know that but now I do, thanks Tracy for providing the explanation why, I am sure some others didn't know that either.
  21. Very good info there Tracy on the hemp seed, thanks for providing us with that and I didn't know kidney beans should not be sprouted, learn something new:)
  22. Yes sprouts are very good for them and the lamb is ok too, just don't give him very much of it at a time, a little meat goes a long way.
  23. You are doing the right thing for I don't know why he would be doing that but it probably has something to do with what he has been subjected to in the past but I hope he is going to be ok. Please keep us updated on his visit, we care about him and you.
  24. Define should, I spend what I want to on them. Do you believe in heaven and hell?
