  2. Mimicing sounds usually comes first before actual words so just be patient and you will hear words soon enough and most of them are things that they hear during the day, I'm sure you can pick some of them out.
  3. Yes she will Lupa and good for you for finding another vet, the "avian specialist" evidently couldn't handle the birds unless they were anesthetized and that is pure bulls**t, she should have went into another field of veterinary medicine if she feels that way. Glad to hear that Shani has a clean bill of health.
  4. Me too, see Penny she thought we had forgotten all about it, but we won't let her forget, she promised and she will deliver, you go girl!!!
  5. Awww that baby is so cute and adorable, they are such sweet things when that little, thanks Claire for sharing that with us, can't wait to see the next one.
  6. You can find it at Walmart and it is usually in the pharmacy department.
  7. We have been informed we should be using cool water for showers and spraying since that is more like what they would be accustomed to in the wild but you can also use aloe vera juice to spray them with.
  8. Probably so Dan but we can't blame them now can we!!!
  9. A good soaking with water is best then finish off with the aloe juice but you can use it by itself if you like.
  10. Dan, my husband could but would he, no, if it is not something to help him with his hunting or something for the grandkids then tough toodles for me, I learned a long time ago to just buy what I need ready made.
  11. Thats a good thing to know now that hummingbird season is just around the corner, I like to put out several feeders for them and the ants always manage to get into them, but I have more trouble with the little sweat bee than anything else.
  12. Sorry Penny but Tracy does not love to cook, she just likes to feed her birds well, oh no I let the cat out of the bag, sorry Tracy maybe you wanted everyone to think you were a great cook. You can take a joke can't cha, please:blush:   B)
  13. Yeah he is good for something beside pissing me off from time to time:laugh: :woohoo:
  14. Yeah that would not be a good nights sleep to wake up to all those finches thrashing around in their cage. If a night light helps then by all means use it.
  15. Baby powder, who would have guessed, thanks so much Tracy, learn something new every day.
  16. Hello Heather and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Opie. I commend you for taking in a rehome/rescue grey, they usually come with baggage but he seems to be adjusting well to his new home and you should very proud of yourself for this accomplishment. Have you ever had any parrots before or do you have any other birds in your household? Opie is feeling very comfortable in his new home since he is talking and mimicing already and he has only been there for one week. Take some time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Opie you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  17. Yes I hope you do decide to go on out there and get a grey even though you won't be getting Cooper. I can understand how they would feel about giving up a member of their family but I am sad for you but you can get over it real quickly by finding another, maybe a baby grey this time.
  18. Thats very good advice Bettyboop and it worked too, thanks for sharing that information with us, it will help others with the same problem and Berta, I hope you follow Dave007's advice for he is pretty much an authority on greys and he won't steer you wrong for sure.
  19. Well Eva I have a grey and a sun conure too and they don't get along so don't be surprised if yours don't either, and its the conure that is the more agressive of the two so don't force anything, just maybe yours will become friends. I look forward to hearing more about Zelda when you get the chance and maybe some pics too if you can.
  20. Like Berna suggested, use it full strength and that from the link you provided is a little pricey since you can get a whole gal of the stuff at Walmart for around $6-7, very reasonable.
  21. Sometimes we just need reassurance that we did the right thing and you did Berna, I am so proud of you, besides it probably helped you to sleep that night, didn't it!!! :cheer:
  22. Froso, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and your two greys.
  23. Congrats on this accomplishment, I would say small but it is a big one and you do need to do this every day so it becomes a habit. He will become more confident as time goes on but you realize the important thing is patience, lots of patience, you are doing great and you should be proud of yourself.
  24. That is one incredible story, Mosfatal, but I am so glad you got Chico back and I bet you will be more careful from now on, you don't want anything like this happening ever again:whistle:

But it does boil down to how much time you are spending with them when you first bring them home, if you hovered over them all the time then they get used to that and it is hard to get them to play to themselves. They are kinda like my grandkids, one of them is content to play by himself for long periods of time and another one has to have someone to entertain her all the time. Like several suggested, you need to make some foraging activities for her to keep her busy at times and get her used to staying on a playstand for some of the time you and her will be a lot happier.
