  1. Mark is so caught up in the excitement of Max that he has no clue what he is doing, cut the poor man some slack Tracy.
  2. Yeah Toni is back and I must say you are a sight for sore eyes, we have missed you dearly and are so glad you are on the mend. It does take something like this to make you realize how precious life is and that it can be taken away in the blink of an eye. Hope that wrist heals soon so you can get busy and post and have a little fun too, and I love you too.
  3. Well you don't have to worry about me, I'll stick to my grey and conure but you two have at it.
  4. Ashley your little boy is a handsome little guy, that first one of him and his older sister is the cutest one of the bunch, thanks for sharing them with us.
  5. Hello Rex30 and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rex. Yes greys are like small children only they never grow up but that is what makes them so endearing and loveable. They are real smart and pick up words and phrases easily and quickly and use them appropriately. Take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have. We will do our best to answer them and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Rex you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  6. Then I don't see any other recourse but to pen the dog up when Rex is out and about, you certainly don't want the dog to grab ahold of Rex as it would be the end of him for sure. Why can't you rotate the dog out for a while and Rex out for a while, that way you get to spend time with each but at different times. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
  7. This is really going to be pretty when its finished and I can't wait, thanks for the update.
  8. Nothing I know of to encourage it to grow back, if it does it does but hopefully it will grow back. He will get used to it in time and probably grip just as well as he did before, he will learn to compensate. Yes our greys are just like our children for we care about them as much as if they were our human children.
  9. Well hang in there and keep looking and calling, I have faith that you will find him or he will find you and we totally understand, thats what separates us from the non bird people.
  10. Rex those are his downy feathers underneath the top ones and they do look different but they are normal. He will probably go thru a molt in the next few months and he will lose a lot of them but they will be replaced. He really should be getting a bath or shower of some sort about twice a week, it cuts down on the dust and helps the skin, you may have to just do it. I don't think you have ever introduced yourself, why don't you make a post in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your grey.
  11. Hello Gotcha and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join but I wish it could have been under happier circumstances. I can't imagine what you must be going thru right now and our greys are like a member of the family and losing one hurts just as much but you must not give up, he is out there somewhere and you will find him or he will find you, I know it. You have done the right thing in putting his cage outside where he can see it and leaving food and water in it. Do not give up calling for him, he may not be that far away and I am sure you have alerted the neighbors to be on the lookout for him. I will keep you and Boo in my thoughts and prayers for his safe return and know that other members here will do the same, we are all family and care about one another. Know that you are not alone and please keep us informed and good luck to you in your search.
  12. Josey does that too, holds the things she really likes so she does not drop it and any kind of pasta or rice is a favorite of hers.
  13. Boy we have been letting this thread slide but I am bringing it back into play. I was weighed today at Curves and I have lost another 3 pounds and almost another 2 inches, small steps but a big payoff when that day comes that I reach my goal.
  14. A lot of those dollar store buys would be suitable for greys to play with, but I am like Hannah, those baby items make excellent toys for greys.
  15. Hello Daniel and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Smokey. If you are looking for experienced grey owners you have come to the right place, you won't find a better bunch of knowledgeable people on the subject of greys. Greys are our passion and we like nothing better than to help other grey owners with any problems they might be having. While you are doing some reading, browse thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Smokey you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  16. Mark I am sorry to hear about your mum but glad to hear that Max is fit and healthy, he freaked and screamed but he will get over it and be back to his old self, I know you are glad its over with.
  17. My Josey loves spaghetti or any kind of pasta and she likes to crunch the dry pasta too, and beans are good too, even refried beans, they will eat it up.
  18. Cute one Dan, I knew you had a good one in ya, you always are full of it you know:laugh:
  19. I have always fed the beans cooked like Siobhan they would be better that way, I wouldn't eat them raw and figured they wouldn't want them that way either. Thanks Tracy for clearing this up for us as some have asked about the beans.
  20. You and Max will be fine Mark, this all will be over soon and then it will be behind you, don't stress yourself out in the process, keep us informed as to how it turns out and good luck.
  21. We have a few members whose greys talked at an early age but most won't until later, like mine didn't talk until she was 1 year of age. She mumbled and did gibberish for a while then she said words and now phrases, just be patient Spence yours will talk in time. I guess the gibberish we hear from them is them getting used to what they can do with their tongue and using it to mimic sounds and then make words. But whether something physically prevents them speaking words at an early age I don't know about, I am no expert by any means. Maybe some of our "experts" will chime in with some facts on this subject.
  22. Keep trying the fresh veggies and fruits, sometimes it just takes them a while to decide to eat them so don't give up so quickly, keep at it. I would go easy on the grapes, they don't offer much nutritionally but some sugar that they don't need, use it as a treat or reward for good behavior.
  23. In fact some greys won't talk around their own owners, they have to go to another room to hear them speak, some just don't like anyone being in the room with them when jabbering, but not my Josey, she will talk right to me, I'm so lucky and blessed.
  24. Tracy is a winner in my book, Spence and don't we all wish we had a bird room like hers.
  25. Oh Dan it won't be long now and Dayo will be chatting his head off, you just wait and see, Josey did not really start talking until she was a year old and now she is picking up all kinds of words and phrases. Josey also is sort of quiet when other people are in the house so yes that seems to be a commonality with them for sure. Mervyn yours will speak soon too, just give it a little more time.
