  1. Then this bird needs to be seen by an avian vet, those glands could be clogged up or not working properly, why don't you ask.
  2. Yes hey do need to bathe or shower at least twice a week whether they like it or not, mine does not like it either but she endures it. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your friend's grey.

    COIN GAME

I do like it very much Mark, that Max is a character all right, thanks so much for sharing it with us.
  4. Yeah and guess what color they are if they eat beets, you guessed it:laugh:
  5. She can be but she is a little sweetheart too, she loves nothing better than to ride around on my shoulder all day.:cheer:
  6. Thanks Mark for sharing that with us, but he didn't want to put the coin in the cup and he took off and wanted to put that coin elsewhere, too funny :woohoo:
  7. Its true Amber the vacuum makes a lot of birds do that at least for my sun conure it does, its so funny when I run the vacuum she will get in her water dish and splash around.
  8. No the same regimen applies all the time, but it is more important to give the twice weekly baths or showers and maybe finish off with the aloe vera juice spray for that soothes the skin and makes them feel better as they are kind of itchy during the molt.
  9. Yes Tracy, aka LovemyGreys said at around 9 weeks they will be starting to perch:cheer:
  10. I can see that you are totally enthralled with Evolet already and doesn't that make you feel so good when they come running when they see you, yah Mommy's here!! I look forward to seeing some pics of Evolet when you can get them posted.
  11. Thanks Donna for sharing that with us, we do love to hear success stories about our members greys, you are doing wonderful and the time and patience you are devoting to Cooper is paying off big time.
  12. When she goes thru a molt you will see more of the downy feathers but you can always check the ends and see if they look chewed or mangled in any way, that would be the plucked ones. But it is normal for them to lose a few all the time, they are birds and birds will lose a few feathers from time to time.
  13. So we got another grey that enjoys her baths and showers, wish mine did as she won't fluff up for me, but great going with Jenna. That was a very nice thing to do to call the breeder and tell them what a great job they done with her, I know they appreciated that very much, karma coming your way.
  14. Yes they can Amber but they will probably use a little drop of blood they obtain from a talon, and its not an expensive test or it shouldn't be, you can obtain one from on the internet for about $25.
  15. Those are the two words we preach here all the time, "time" and "patience", the most important words to a grey owner as it requires a lot of both when working with them. Try the suggestions the others before me gave you, it will help you in introducing new things to Corkey.
  16. James if she is plucking are you ignoring that, you shouldn't give any reaction to that except to try to distract her with something else, maybe a toy. If you physically try to stop her from plucking she may enjoy that reaction and continue to do it for that response. If she has not seen an avian vet recently it would be a good idea to have her checked out to see if there is any physical reason for the plucking but most of the time it is a behavioral problem. But it sounds like you are working on that already and I hope she continues to improve.
  17. I don't believe they are sexual mature at that age, more like puberty, but the hormones are beginning to rage so therefore the sexual behavior is apparent. I would just ignore it but when you get her out of the cage and are cuddling or stroking her be careful of how you do that, no stroking down the back as it heightens the arousal and you don't want to increase the sexual frustration any more than is necessary. At this point I couldn't tell you whether it is a she or a he, only a DNA test will accurately determine that.
  18. Hello James and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Corkey. Its nice to hear that she has adjusted so well to her new home and you are enjoying her company so much, they are amazing creatures aren't they. Most greys are real leery of new things and you have to give them time to adjust to them, putting new things where they can see them and then bringing them closer will get them used to it. It just takes time and patience when working with greys as they are very cautious of new things. Take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have, we will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Corkey you would like to share with us we would love to see her.
  19. Yes she enjoys playing on that foliage, she's having a good time all right, thanks for sharing that with us.
  20. I love that show, Law and Order, she has good taste. Thats great news to hear that she is doing great but you can take her out for longer periods of time, yes she needs to get used to her cage but she needs several hours at minimum to be out and about. Keep up the good work and keep us updated on Tiki and her progress.
  21. Aww Kristin, Makena looks so pitiful in those shots after what he has done to himself but I would wait until you get moved and then see the avian specialist you mentioned. I would be leery of using drugs on him too, not a good idea, like the others suggested it will only mask the problem not solve it. BTW, how did the wedding go on Saturday, I was thinking of you and Andrew, hope it was all you dreamed it would be and look forward to seeing some pictures when you get the chance.
  22. Tiki is a good looking Cag, a very sweet bird from her pic, thanks for sharing it with us.
  23. What gave me away but I ain't that far south:P
  24. They do indeed Char, that makes the difference sometimes, just let them see you eat it and then they want it too, good way to get them to try new stuff.
  25. The nobby look of oatmeal, now that will be a sight!!! The wolf whistle was the first thing that Josey learned, my hubby made sure of that!!!
