Hello DDixon and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Homie. How old is Homie and have you had him since he was a baby or is it a rescue or rehomed grey? Just a few questions to get to know you better since you are having some problems as it will assist us in helping you with them. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information that may answer some of your questions and do not hesitate to ask those questions no matter how trivial or silly they seem, we have heard them before. We do our best to find some answers for you and we will help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Homie you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

That first pic is absolutely adorable, suitable for framing, what a precious sight of getting a kiss from his mommy, thanks for sharing these pics with us, but that first one is by far the best.
-
All the more reason to get a pic of it in case it does molt out so you will have it for memory.
-
Is this a new noise he has picked up or is it just become really annoying by now? How long have you had this grey, all 7 years or just recently adopted? I need a little more info to come up with some suggestions for you. But one is you do need to ignore these scream fests, if you give him any reaction at all then he takes that as a reason to do it more. It sounds like you have been spending a lot of time with him in the past and now things are maybe different and he is used to that and now you want him to entertain himself for a while and he doesn't understand.
-
You would have to show us a picture for us to know for sure but yes it sounds like the red factor but you do realize that it might be lost when he grows thru the first molt, some do and some don't. Yes they do grow so fast, it is amazing how quickly they turn from that ugly little naked chick into a beautiful feathered creature.

Yes it was a little shaky but enjoyable, I heard the wolf whistle along with other similar sounds that I guess they all make, thanks for sharing that with us.

Is an African Grey right for my family?
judygram replied to AmanderaaLynn's topic in The GREY Lounge
Amanda I am glad you asked us this question and of course you are getting the responses you would prefer not to have but the others have spoken the truth. You are still very young yet, you have your high school years and maybe college ahead of you, enjoy those times, they will create many happy memories that will never be replaced. You will be involved in many other activities and making new friends. After you finish schooling and settle down in a new job with a place of your own, then will be the time for the decision to make for this lifetime committment to owning a grey. I know this is something you have been wanting but you would do such a diservice to a grey if you plunge in too soon, so many end up in rescues and need rehomed because people didn't fully think it thru. Believe me you will be happier for it and that grey you do eventually get will be so much the better for it too. -
Thats wonderful to hear Pat, and it is your love and devotion to him that has brought him around. Mr Magoo is one lucky bird and you should be very proud of yourself too.

Thanks for sharing that wonderful pic with us Amberly, you are doing such a good job with Woody, keep up the good work.

Hello Sunshine and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. I just assume you have a grey since you have a pic of one in your avatar. What is his/her name? How old is he/she? Do you know the sex? How long have you had him/her? Do you have any other birds? You didn't give us much info so I asked a few questions to get to know you a little better. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any other pictures of your grey you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

Glad to have you back Laurie and I bet you are glad to be out of that steam bath:laugh: B)

I am appalled at the behavior of this vet, I wouldn't take my bird in to see him again for no amount of money, he is worthless. I would find myself another vet even if it means a long drive, he has no business handling birds. I am so sorry your experience with this vet has upset you so much and to think of what Zahzu has been thru so far but what he did is unforgiveable in my book. He sounds like he doesn't know his *** from a hole in the ground so don't go along with anything he said.
-
Thanks Mark for the info on the different perches, very useful for those looking to provide the right ones for their grey and to keep them out of the vet's office for trimming.
-
Yes they can remove a blood feather without putting her under anesthesia and it really does need removing if it is still bleeding. I wouldn't be real happy about taking her to the same vet that you had a problem with before but she does need this feather removed so just grin and bear it for the time being. I would continue to look around for another avian vet for I would not use this one for anything but an emergency. You really need to take her some places besides just the vet's office so she can get used to going in the car. She needs to go places that are fun for her so she will not associate car rides as just a trip to the vet and stress out.

That one shot of Elmo looking in to the tank, I can imagine he is thinking "Hmmmm, wonder where the dinner is?" {Feel-good-0002006E}

Yes they do all have different personalities but then that is what makes them so unique. Josey is actually a quiet bird, my sun conure is more noisy but I think too if your house is quiet then they are more quiet and homes where there are a lot of children and more noise they are louder, they tend to adjust to their surroundings.:side: :cheer:

New grey mom and new to the boards
judygram replied to EchosMom's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Jody and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Echo. It takes some time for them to settle in a new home so be very patient with him and his dexterity will improve with time and then he will be climbing all over his cage. It will take trial and error to find out what his favorite things are but most seem to like different kinds of nuts and most love cheese but that should be fed with moderation. I hope that a lot of reading includes this forum, we do have lots of threads with useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find some answers for you and help you in any way we can. Thanks for sharing some pictures of Echo with us, he is a good looking grey. -
That is a wonderful heartfelt story about Zazu, thanks for sharing it with us. I would recommend you put these in your blog if you are going to continue to make updates to it, that way it will make it easier for new ones to read the entire story from start to present time;)

I can see why it is your favorite, thanks for sharing it with us:P

Those are some nice pics April, thanks for sharing them with usB)

Thats kind of unusual M2MM, they allow the palm oil but not the nut itself, interesting:huh:

Hello Lyn and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Alfie. Thanks for the compliment on the site, I think it is the best one out there on the internet for greys and we do have tons of great info from our many members. Alfie is young yet and he will talk soon enough, in fact you may want him to shut up next year at this time. Josey, my Cag didn't start talking until she was a year old and some talk sooner, it just depends. If you haven't read them all already, read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions no matter how trivial or silly they may seem. We will endeavor to answer them as quickly as possible and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Alfie you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
