  1. Hello Jenny and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Coco. I am so proud of you for adopting this grey, the poor thing got kicked aside because his family got a divorce and I guess neither one of them wanted him, says a lot about those two but enough about that. If he has been shuffled around to several people in the meantime before you got him it is going to take some time and lots of patience to win him over but it can be done. It may not happen in months but a year or more, a lot of damage has been done and his trust in humans is not forthcoming right now. Continue to talk to him and spend some time with him even if it is only sitting beside his cage and chatting with him and maybe offering him treats. That was a smart idea to put a ladder up for him to go back into his cage by himself, he does need some out of cage time but I would keep the dog away from him until he is gone since he is leaving in 5 days anyway. He is going to growl at you especially if he thinks you are going to come inside his cage, that is his safe territory right now but don't take it personally, he will warm up to you but it may take a long time so be very, very patient with him. For some excellent advice, read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Coco you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  2. I subscribe to Bird Talk magazine and I think a lot of the other members get that one also, I love the pictures and the stories in it and we have had a few of our members get their grey pics or a story printed in it. I am not familiar with the Bird Times magazine so I can't comment on that one.
  3. Please don't take offense to Dave's post, he is making jokes as usual and sometimes it is not in a light-hearted manner but Dave knows his birds if you have read some of his other posts he has made. Dave has a weird sense of humor sometimes but he's all heart:kiss:
  4. This is what I expect from our beloved Dave, always good for a good hearty laugh, thanks so much Dave, you have succeeded in putting a smile on this ole woman's face this morning, thank you, thank you, thank you:lol:
  5. OMG Berna, how sad for you to find him like that and even though he was not your own baby you were feeding him and tending to him and I know it hurts like hell to lose him. And to think that the rest may die because they were exposed to it is devastating to comprehend, I am so sorry but this is the reality of the business and you have been initiated into it for real.
  6. Here is a site with some good playstands and other good bird items: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pet_supplies.cfm?c=5059+5107
  7. Hello Ashley and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rio. I am sure you are going to do fine with this grey and I am glad to hear you want to give him a good home where he can receive the love and attention he deserves. You are starting out the same way I did with a sun conure and then I got my grey, Josey and she is a delight to have and I enjoy them both tremendously. To learn a lot in a short time, read thru the many threads for a wealth of information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. I can hardly wait for the pictures so do post as soon as possible.

  12. Am I doing something wrong, I don't use a night light for Josey or Sunny and they do just fine, my reasoning is a little bit of light makes for shadows and that can appear like threatening objects to them, I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.:whistle:
  13. Yes it is a cute name, sounds like someone calling their cat, here kitty kitty kitty:blush: sorry we are not making fun of you just having a little fun with your screen name.:lol:

  15. Now Dave is assuming your grey's cage bars are dusty and dirty, I guess he is knocking Heather's cage cleaning habits, the man is digging himself a hole he won't be able to climb out of:woohoo: :whistle: :pinch:
  16. The internet, you can blame the internet for that.:silly:
  17. What were we talking about here, hmmmm I can't remember.:whistle: :blink:
  18. Well now you bring up another interesting subject, I know firsthand that knats have a long attention span, I have been pestered to death by them, they are keen on making you miserable and they don't give up.:angry: :blink:

    I think we are all a little nuts here, lets just say I have good company:whistle: {Feel-good-0002006E}
  20. Well thats what you got, beggars can't be choosers:laugh: :whistle: :woohoo: :blush:
  21. You are right, greys are not domesticated animals like our dogs and cats but I don't believe that captivity causes them to pluck. I'm glad to hear you got to see the other vet, he sounds like he knows his stuff more so than Dr Evil who sounds like he should keep his paws off animals period. I hope you can come up with a solution to Zahzu problem but I am afraid it won't be an easy one, plucking issues never are.

    I rest my case!!!:silly: :whistle:

They usually start mumbling and doing what I call gibberish, they are trying out their sounds and eventually you will hear some words you can understand and then one day all hell breaks loose and they will chatter away or at least most do. He has plenty of time yet, as you say he is still very young, but be patient and you will be rewarded.:lol:
