Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your grey. -

I would recommend that you get a travel cage if you don't have one already and get your grey used to using it so it is not scary to him. I use one for Josey when I take her along when we visit my son and it is a 4+ hour drive but it will work for longer trips. I don't recommend letting the grey ride on your shoulder, for one thing he will be dumping down your back and two if someone opens a window, zap he may be gone in an instant. Put a few toys inside the cage along with some food and a little water, just enough for him to get him a few sips but not so full that water sloshes all over the place. My Josey rides real well this way, she has a bell that hangs inside that travel cage and she bangs it around to hear it ring and has gotten so she talks some now that she has become a pro at riding in the vehicle. I'm sure he is going to notice something is happening because of the different activity going on while you begin packing and such, try to keep things as normal as possible to keep from upsetting him and the move will go more smoothly. -
I must have got a bargain, Josey was $900 fully weaned;)

Hello Patrick and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Refund. Rufund has had a rough life hasn't he, poor thing being hit by his first owner, who by the way should be shot, how cruel to be treated that way and now he is forever blind in that eye, I feel so bad for him. You have taken on a mighty task but with lots of time and patience I think you will accomplish great things with Refund. He has come a long way in the short time you have had him, imagine what some love and attention will do as he deserves it so much. If he talked before he more than likely will again, it will just take time for him to feel comfortable doing so, I imagine it will be some time before he comes to trust you but eventually he will. You need to read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Refund you would like to share with us we would love to see him. BTW, if I knew who was his first owner, the one that hit him, I would punch his lights out, that makes me so mad:angry:

Well that time will be here before you know it and then you will have a good look but yes a 3.5 hour drive is definitely worth it, even at today's gas prices. Besides you may be able to pick up all kinds of good stuff at the show, probably will have toys and such for sale, I like to buy at places where I can see and handle the merchandise, have a good and safe trip.

I am horrified to hear of such abuse from an owner of your grey Refund, how anyone could do such a thing to one of these precious creatures is beyond me. Patrick I am glad you have taken on the task of giving him a new home and I am sure with your love and attention he will eventually flourish. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Refund.

Actually frozen can have more nutritional value in them than fresh for they are flash frozen directly from the field without sitting around during shipment and such in bringing fresh ones to the stores.

Yes there are more and more new threads here every day but if you are looking for specific things you can do a search to find them and of course you can always post a question or pm someone for answers, someone is always on at any given time to help you if you need it.

Hello Luan and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Disco. Sounds like you do have quite the character in your two year old grey, they can be amazing creatures can't they. Once you have owned one then you know how truly special they really are. You wouldn't believe what they will dunk in their water before eating, some will actually make soup with the water in their bowl, the water gets so foul it has to be dumped and refilled only to have it happen again and again. My Josey is not much of a dunker but some of the members do have some that like to dunk all kinds of stuff and take baths in them too. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Disco you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

I really like that playstand, very nice, and there is another pic of that little guy who is still nameless but you have time yet to come up with a name, just hurry up:whistle:

I have only had one experience with a shipped animal and that was a dog but I had to pick her up at the airport. She was the last thing loaded where she came from and the first thing unloaded at her destination. Some of the other members have had their greys shipped to them, I think most were fine but we did have at least one member who had a harrowing experience with it but in any case maybe those members will give you some insight into the effects of air transport with a grey.

Yep just a wild guess and I have a 50% chance of being right, right!!!

Hello Tiffany and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you intend to get. I hope you have thought this thru thoroughly because you are about to take on a lifetime committment if you get a grey. This bird will take up a chunk of your time every day and there are more expenses than just a vet bill, that is after paying for the bird itself. Theres food, toys, cage, meds and maybe a travel cage to transport the bird to the vet and on outings. Have you done plenty of research on all aspects of owning a grey to be sure this is truly the right thing for you to do at this point in your life? I am not trying to talk you out of this, just making you aware of just what you are getting into, if you are willing to make the sacrifices to own a grey then more power to you. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information that may answer some questions you may have and we will get you some answers and help you in any way we can.

Hello Victor and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your desire to share your life with a parrot, hopefully a grey. You are right, we share a special bond with our feathered friends, a lifetime committment that we have undertaken after careful consideration, we knew what we were getting into and did so gladly. Please take some time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can.

Yes greys are flock animals and want to be included in family activities so the more you can include him in your day to day life the better for him. I would want to talk to the current owner also to find out as much as you can about him, it could be a great asset to helping him to adjust to his new home. I look forward to an update real soon.

I like the third one best, thats so sweet looking of him taking a nap while daddy is snapping pics, thanks for sharing them with us Carlos:)

Lauri, personally I have never used it as a backpack, I use it for my sun conure when she has to go somewhere or to the vet. I use another collapsible travel cage for Josey, my grey and you can get it from the country roost, I have included a link for it, comes with one perch, two bowls and has a slide out tray in the bottom. She has spent several days in it when I have taken her with me to visit family with some out of cage time also, the link shows two and I got the larger one. http://www.thecountryroost.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=28_29&osCsid=6762684464ef2359b2cccf983944b86b
