  1. Some of the members here have had great success with potty training, meaning they take them to a special place to defecate so it is possible to train them to do it on command and therefore keep your furniture and carpet fairly poop free.
  2. Congrats on taking in a rescued grey, you will find that most greys fit the description of being afraid of fast movement, they are by nature very cautious of anything new and different. I would give her plenty of time to settle into her new home, don't rush her, it takes time for a grey especially one who has had a previous home to feel comfortable and she has to come to trust you to feel secure. Maybe she needs some help with playing with toys, put some in her cage and play with them yourself to show her what to do with them, make out like you are having a great time and it will entice her to join in.
  3. I just love these conversations with Emma, she is so entertaining and cute, she is very smart, maybe too smart, nah, never, thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. Yeah her regular vet is closer but I am not going to use the collar on Dave's advice, I am hopeful she will quit chewing soon, gonna try some ideas and suggestions from some of the members here and see if it helps.
  5. If you cannot handle bird poop maybe you need to rethink having birds as pets is my opinion.
  6. Just look at that handful of babies, how precious they are, thanks Dave for sharing them with us.
  7. I think you are right as always Dave, I guess I am going to have to come up with some ways to keep her busy to allow those feathers to regrow but she only does it on one side.
  8. The vet she has been seeing pretty much said the same things except he never mentioned putting a collar on her and there was nothing in her bloodwork to think it was anything physical so it is a behavior she has gotten into. I think I kind of blinded myself to what she was really doing, kept thinking she was breaking it off and then chewing it off because of that but we could see the broken shafts in her wing when he restrained her. I am giving a lot of thought to putting a collar on her, at least giving it a try but she only does this on one wing, the other pretty much has full flights. No once the visit was over she was calmed down and of course she rides very well as she is used to long car rides.
  9. I just got back from the vet and he didn't pull any of Josey's feathers but two that were broken trying to get her restrained. She has chewed on the feathers on one wing, some with just a short end sticking out but he never said anything about pulling them out. He did suggest we put a collar on Josey to keep her from chewing them so they will regrow enough to where they aren't irritating her any longer, I just don't know if that will work or not, I just hate putting a collar on her.
  10. Well I am not real impressed with this new vet, he thinks she is chewing her flight feathers off one side because they are irritating her and because it has gone on now for several years it has developed into a habit. He recommends she wear a collar until the feathers regrow enough so she will leave them alone. I really hate the thought of Josey wearing a collar for maybe months but if that is what it takes then she may have to. I won't have the results of her bloodwork until Friday but I don't anticipate anything wrong with that. Poor baby was growling and I felt so bad for her when he was restraining her for the examination but I know it was necessary but once it was over and she was back into her travel cage she settled down and on the way home she was back to mostly her old self just quiet. I sort of feel let down, I had such high expectations for this vet but he really didn't show me much more than the other one I was taking her too, I may stick with the first one as he is closer.

  12. I have seen that particular picture before and I agree it does not seem natural, it is striking but not natural.
  13. Would you look at Ecko sitting there on that carved pumpkin, he looks so cute and he does approve and so do I, you did a nice job on it, thanks for sharing it with us.
  14. Oh that is wonderful looking countryside Julie and I want to see it all, the beach doesn't look too bad either, thanks for sharing these with us, some of them must have been taken in the spring.

  16. Well why don't you find out for us and let us know!
  17. Do you know Bernie or are you asking us?
  18. Of course I will give you all the full report when I get back, I just hope she isn't too shaken up by it.
  19. I completely understand, been there, done that but yes it helps to share it with others and get that reassurance or maybe you could take him with you, I have Josey with me at work today for she is going to see the vet later.
  20. I heard about that a while back and I think someone posted about it here but that is so horrible and whatever they do to the man will not be enough punishment, some people have no conscience.
  21. Darn, I am at work and we have no sound on our computers but maybe I can pull it up on my blackberry to hear it, I bet it is so cute, thanks for sharing it with us.
  22. Its not unusual for them to have whole items in their crop if they do not chew them up before swallowing but you did the right thing to call your vet and if he told you to just watch him for an hour or two then he should be fine. He probably was gurging for you which is a sign of affection but if he is acting normal then I wouldn't worry too much but let us know how he is in an hour or so. We really can be worry warts can't we.
  23. I am taking Josey to a new vet this evening, one recommended by a good friend who relies on him for all her bird's needs. I am hoping he will be able to help Josey with her feather problem. She has been chewing her flight feathers on one wing for a long time now, I have been waiting for them to regrow but she keeps chewing them and I am afraid she has some of those shafts left in her wing and they may need removing to stop her from chewing since it obviously irritates her. This vet is nearly two hours away so it will be quite a trip but I have brought her to work with me for it will be easier to get to the interstate I need to be on to get there. I am a little apprehensive about this visit, for one thing I will be meeting a new vet for the first time and I am worried about having to remove feathers if thats what he decides to do. I will let you all know what I find out.
