  1. The cement perches or other rough surface perches will work wonders with their nails, my Josey has not had her talons clipped for some time now as she is keeping them filed down with the perches but they still are at a point but they need some to be able to grip. I get a few minor scratches when she is on my shoulder or I handle her but I don't complain, comes with the territory.
  2. You need to tell her no when she bites you and turn your back on her, she has to learn that biting is not acceptable behavior. This will take some time but if you work on it then she might lessen the biting but at the moment I think she thinks she is in control. Some of the other more knowledgeble members will have some good advice for you as a biting grey is not something I have had to deal with as yet.
  3. Hello Captain Jack and welcome to the family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Jack. I am sure he is quite a character, we have others here who have little stinkers that provide their owners with amusement and joy, some are quite mischievous but of course mine is a perfect angel, yeah right. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Jack you would share with us we would love to see them.
  4. Good going there Lyn, maybe one day when David is home she will be sitting there on your knee, surprise, it does make you feel special doesn't it.
  5. Josey will too and also from oranges if you give her some, they seem to like the juice from fruit more so than the flesh itself, Josey will drink the juice from cantaloupe before she will eat the flesh, slurp!!
  6. I must say those are some excellent pictures of Koko, he is a very handsome fella and you take wonderful pics, I love them all, can't pick a favorite unless it is the first one with his head turned sideways, that one is funny, thanks for sharing these with us.
  7. Thats great Dee, you are doing the right thing in watching to see when he gets a little nervous and wants to return to the safety of the cage, it won't always be that way. The day will come he will be more used to you and feel comfortable and love being out with you, you will be asking us how do you get him off you. You are a patient woman and it will reward you soon enough, what a great parront you are becoming. Love that picture of Juno enjoying that banana, wish Josey would eat banana but she turns her beak up to it, thanks for sharing that pic with us.
  8. Dee it sounds like it is going well for you and Juno and from the looks of the pictures you shared he is doing just fine. I love that T-shirt too and that is a good idea for the travel cage for inquiring little fingers will be forewarned of an impeding bite if they stick their fingers inside. You are taking to this transition of being a new grey mom like a duck to water, you were meant for this and that trip to Alaska can happen at another time but Juno is forever your baby. Can't wait to hear how tomorrow goes, his personality will be more forthcoming in the next few days and weeks and more pictures are always welcomed.
  9. Well that answers the question of why we have never seen any pictures of Marvin and Molly and never will but we would not want to cause you any loss of cultural respect so that is that. We would have loved to have seen them.
  10. So Chocolate is Chocko, works for me, everytime I have seen you talk about Chocolate I get hungry for some Hersheys, wonder why that is:whistle:
  11. Jamal, I am very curious as is probably everyone else to see your greys, Marvin and Molly, why don't you share some pictures of them with us.
  12. Poor Bernie, that was just a love scratch and I bet you kicked him way into next week for it too, bad Bernie, do it again Tiggs:whistle:   just kidding Bernie, just kidding!!!B)
  13. I assume you have them inside the house with you, whatever temperature you are comfortable in they will be also. If it is cool enough for you to turn on the heat for yourself then it will suit them too.
  14. I figured that Tobie would be fine while you were gone and so he was and was probably very glad to see you when you returned. So glad to hear you had a marvelous time, I can't imagine what kind of fun you had since I don't swim much less be able to scuba dive, love the picture of the sea lions, I am so jealous of you being able to get up close and personal.
  15. Oh wow Jan, I can't imagine how thrilling it must be to be able to do that, the sea lions looked like they were putting on a show for their visitors, thanks for sharing that with us.
  16. I agree with Jill, just because she is going back to work doesn't mean you have to get rid of Ronnie, I work full time and have since I have had Josey and I make time for her every day. A lot of us members work but you can make sure Ronnie has quality time if not quantity, please don't give up on him just yet.
  17. That is great news Jen in light of the fact that Lyric doesn't talk if I remember correctly so it has been a long time coming but you have your talking grey, enjoy as it will only get better.
  18. Some greys do not like to be touched much and if that is the case then you have to respect that but give him more time to learn to trust you and maybe he will allow more. Don't let it bother you and don't take it personally.
  19. Besides Jill it would show up in both feet and not just one if it was the carotene buildup.
  20. I will observe your Remembrance Sunday as all of you from the UK will be doing and also on Wednesday November 11 as Americans observe Veteran's Day. We must never forget what these men and women who gave their lives so we could live in freedom did for us over the years, we owe them our very lives and at the least our gratitude.
  21. Hannah, I think I know what sound you are talking about as I have heard Josey do it but I don't really know what it means, maybe some kind of contentment sound since it usually is when they are pleased or happy. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable members will enlighten us as to what it means.
  22. My guess is if it is only one foot turning orange then maybe that is the one he uses to hold the carrot to eat it, doing that would explain the orange foot, most greys will tend to use the same foot to hold food to eat it.
  23. Jill, was anything ever all yours, you know that once Harvey came into your life you gave up having anything just to yourself, its share and share alike from now on. Thanks for sharing that picture with us, its priceless.
  24. Well Happy 20 month Hatchday Emma and thanks for sharing that video with us, she is certainly the entertainer and I always love watching her and you do have a very soothing voice, lovely to listen to.
  25. That would kind of give you the creeps to have those crows circling above you and Mocha and Mocha was their target for sure, you did the right thing to bring him back inside.
