It probably is Penny but like we tell everyone else, hang in there and it will soon pass, at least I hope it does but that idea of Tigerlily's just might be the trick.

You really have to be consistent with your telling him no and he didn't understand why you were telling him not to go to the bottom of the cage and when you rushed to him he was scared by your actions. He sensed your fear and reacted by his natural instinct to flee from you and whatever was scaring you. The next time something like this happens try to remain calmer about it and he won't get as upset about it, they really do feed off our emotions. In time he will be back to his old self but keep that in mind in the future not to over react to things so as not to upset him more than is necessary.

Welcome back Kia, its good to hear from you again and glad to hear Cleo is doing just fine, would love to see some pictures of her but thanks for the great update.

Fred is adorable, he is getting his share of a tuna sandwich, congrats on getting him to put on some weight, soon he will be fully feathered and gorgeous, not that he isn't now but you know what I mean.

What a ham, no its tuna, Spock is really getting into that sandwich and enjoying it, thanks for sharing that with us.

Hello Amy and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Cher. I am so sorry to hear of Sonny's death, yes it is devastating even if he was a breeder, these birds have a way of getting into our heart and when we lose one it hurts so much. I do not have any advice as to what to do with Cher, I have only had one grey and she is a pet but we do have a few members who have breeder greys who may be able to help you with that situation. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have any of Cher you would share with us we would love to see her.

Approximately when does a CAG reach full size?
judygram replied to particle77's topic in The Nursery
Earl is probably at the weight he is going to stay, they grow quickly from a chick and at 375 grams he certainly is within the normal range. Josey weighs around 425 but there are some greys who weigh over 600 grams, it just depends on the body frame. Some greys are small boned and some large and the rest fall in between. The weight itself doesn't matter as much as whether it fluctuates a lot and the only way to get that is to weigh him every day for a while to get his average and then weigh every week to keep check of it. -
Congrats Cindy on Chimay saying his first words, he has been practicing all this time to get it just right so now be prepared to hear all sorts of things, better watch what you say from now on. B)

It could be Penny as she is getting close to that hormonal age, when the fake birds no longer work you will have to try something else.

So Rikki has become a bully huh, yeah that would be new behavior to me also and I don't know what to tell you to do. I know you hate clipping wings but try Jane's idea of placing something to scare her off from those places you don't want her going to and use the clipping as a last resort. Maybe Dave007 will have an idea of what you could do, I know he has probably faced this problem before, if anyone knows it will be him.

Mocha is one smart bird, he knew dad would never let any harm come to him, he just takes it all in when he is out, just taking it all in, thanks for sharing those with us, I always enjoy seeing Mocha.

Tamarah, you are going thru a really rough time and I know it is hard for you but you do what you have to and if you are selling your home then that nest Joey was building has to be cleaned up, maybe you have a family member who could do it for you. I imagine it is painful to see other greys but in time it will be less so but you will know when your grieving is over enough for you to be able to see other greys and possibly bring another one into your life.

New first time owner with an older bird
judygram replied to Turp23's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Turp23 and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Maya. The first couple of days were like the honeymoon phase and she was on her best behavior and now she is showing more of her true personality. That will become more apparent as time goes by. Due to her age it will take longer for her to settle into her new home so give her plenty of time to feel comfortable and be very patient with her if she was not handled much as she will have to learn to trust you. You may have to play with her toys yourself to show her how much fun you are having, greys don't usually like to be left out of what is going on around them and she may just need some encouragement to do so. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for sharing a picture of Maya with us, she is a beautiful grey. -
I think you lost control a long time ago Bernie, go ahead and admit it, we can take it!!

-
Doesn't surprise me, it stays in bits more than it does in one piece, I dare!!

She certainly is a fun loving grey, glad to hear you are enjoying her so much, you have quite a character. -
She is so cute, she can do tricks, love this one where she flips herself back after being "shot" yes it looks like David can do anything with her, thanks for sharing it with us Lyn.

Wow would like to be going along on that trip but don't worry about your pets, they will be fine, you have a wonderful time and enjoy your time away. Take some pictures and share when you return.

Pulling broken feathers so that they will regrow
judygram replied to Janfromboone's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yes Adina, this chewing has been going on for quite a while, I just hadn't posted much about it before but at first I just thought she was breaking them and then chewing them off because they were broke but since it has gone on for some time now I realize she is chewing them because they irritate her. She leaves the other side untouched other than preening. Jan, you probably won't find out anything more than you already know as I did but maybe the bloodwork will show something, haven't heard the results yet. I will not be putting a collar on Josey, I have been advised by our resident expert that would be a big mistake and I trust his judgment implicitly. I am going to give her very frequent aloe vera juice baths and put some aloe vera jel on her wing and then play a waiting game, he seems to think she will eventually stop it.
