Hello Malikah and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Kito. She sounds like an absolute delight to have and you are finding out that as she matures they get a little less cuddly, she will likely become more independent as she gets older as most do. Has she actually said any words yet? My grey did not talk until she was a year of age, she mastered the wolf whistle right off and other household sounds but then she talked and now she says many words and phrases. Thats great that she will allow you to dremmel her nails, wish my Josey would do that and hers are right sharp now. Please do not clip her wings, birds were meant to fly and you will find that a lot of the members here are passionate about not clipping. You have done the right thing to leave something visible on the window she she knows it is there. Do read thru the many threads for lots of information and ideas and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Kito you would share with us we would love to see them.

I want to congratulate Dan, our forum admin on passing the 10,000 post mark, he is the 3rd person to do so and it is quite an accomplishment. Dan has been a member here since June 2007 and he has given countless hours of his time to help other members with problems they may be having or to interject some humor to get a thread going back on track. I know I can count on him for advice and if he doesn't know the answer he will go find it for you. We are so lucky to have someone like him here going to bat for us and I am proud to count him as a good friend, love you Dan. B)

She was just yakking away oblivious to the fact that you had the camera hid, I could hear her repeat all you had listed and more, she is quite an accomplished talker and I love the videos you share with us. Good job Emma!

The red lored is one of my favorites of the amazons, I really like the red forehead on these birds and they are brilliantly colored elsewhere. I look forward to each week's entry and it seems they are more beautiful by the week.

My gray hairs started appearing when I was just a wee 18 years old and now I have a head full of them, why fight it, just let it take over as I'll not waste my money on such frivolous items, don't hide it, embrace it.B)

That looks sore Brittany and I am sorry Pepper inflicted that on you but like I promised you karma for a picture and karma you get, thanks for posting a pic.

I am so proud of Joey as I am sure you are too, you dang skippy he was proud of himself for what he accomplished, if greys could grin his would be from ear to ear, look for more and greater flights in the near future, there is no stopping him now. Thanks for sharing that momentous occasion with us,:pinch: look out here comes Joey!:cheer:

I don't have any stories like that but I don't doubt that Megan knew to associate the cat's meow with wanting in and went and did it for you, how special that must have made you feel, bet she got a doggie treat for that. B)

I have grown accustomed to your groaning Jill for you do it so well, I think I will imbibe an alcoholic beverage tonight, cheers! :woohoo:

I am so glad you did join us and hope you stay for a long, long time, you bring a sense of humor that makes me laugh while being outspoken about a lot of things which has landed you in hot water more than once.  Thanks for being here with us.:cheer:

Excellent post Dave, you can't be more clear than that.

By all means give him plenty of time to settle into his new home, you will find that patience is your best friend so do not rush him into anything, let him think it is his idea. You have had a grey before so you have some practice at this but if you pay attention to his cues and body language then you should have no problems but even if you do get bit don't take it personally. Keep somewhat of a routine but not so rigid that if you get off it he freaks, change it up from time to time so he knows you are not so predictable, it will prove to be helpful at times. The main thing is to relax and just enjoy his presence, if you are so anxious and unsure about his homecoming then he will sense that and things could get a little difficult. I know you can't wait to get him home and we can't wait to see some pictures.
-
Welcome back Bonnie, I knew you couldn't go forever without having another grey in your life and its great that you can give an older bird a new forever home. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you bring him home, again welcome back.
-
Jane I think you have the exception to the rule and I think that is great that Rangi and Kea get along so good together that they can share a cage, you must have a wonderful relationship with the both of them.
-
Karma Marguerite for having the guts to post a picture of your "fat" lip, that must have hurt a lot, thanks for sharing your pain with us.:pinch:
-
Big toes can be scary things to a grey, Yoshi thought it better to investigate but at your husband's expense, I bet he keeps them away from her from now on or under the covers, thanks for sharing that with us.
-
Nilah is quite a talker and congrats on getting her to say the phrase you have been wanting her to repeat, you had better luck than I did with Josey. Gosh I can't believe she will be one year old this Sunday, bet you have a big party planned for her, she sounds like an absolute delight to have.
-
 I'm so sorry Brittany but yes when you ignore the warning sign then you asked for it, no I am not laughing at your expense but you have to admit it is a good lesson, I bet you won't do that again. I'll give you some karma if you post a picture of your fat lip!

My gosh Adina, you must spend a small fortune on bird toys!!

Lilly Grey comes home saturday
judygram replied to FloridaBeak's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Lily is a real sweet looking grey and that second shot of her with her eyes closed enjoying a head scratch is absolutely precious, thanks for including the pictures in your intro post. We have lots of members here who have a vast knowledge of greys, all aspects so do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have. Be sure to browse thru many of the threads for lots of useful information but if you raised birds before you probably know most everything by now. You are so lucky to have your grey choose you and not vice versa, many of us did not have that pleasure but that doesn't mean we love ours any less. It will take her some time to settle in when she comes home but give her time and lots of patience and she will do fine, after all she is a baby and they adjust easily. Do take a good stroll thru the bird food room for lots of ideas of what to feed your grey and for what is toxic to your baby, we have lots of threads with meal ideas and recipes too. Most greys love any kind of bells, find a good heavy one that she will not be able to destroy so she can knock it around and make noise with it. Provide her with a different variety of toys, wooden, leather, paper, cardboard, acrylic and etc to find what kind she prefers, some foot toys are favorites too. Be sure to check out the homemade toys room for lots of ideas on homemade toys, very cheap. Be sure to put her cage in the most active room in the house, the family room for most people, they like to be around their flock and feel like they are part of the action.
