  1. Hello Katy and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Dusty. You have taken on quite a responsibility, one that most of us would usually leave for those who have experience and know what they are doing but you know you can count on us for any help and please do read thru the many threads here especially the nursery room where you will find lots of helpful advice. But you are right about the advice you cannot find in books, sometimes it helps to get it straight from "the horse's mouth" as we have many members who are either breeders of greys or have a lot of experience with handfeeding birds. I can see from your avatar that Dusty is adorable and if you have some more pictures you would share with us we would love to see them.
  2. Adina, was it fofaviary?

  3. Yes he may have scratched or poked himself in the eye with his talon or something else but since he is fine now not to worry, glad it turned out to be nothing.
  4. Yes it is ok for them to eat cucumbers though he may not much like the vinegar, you eat the ones in the vinegar and give him the unsoaked ones.
  5. I'm so sorry Harvey is not accepting the harness any longer, yes you probably should have kept putting it on him so he remained used to it but he obviously hates it now by the description of his behavior when you brought it into view. Get a travel cage and use it, better than nothing.
  6. My sun conure does not talk but she has so many other endearing qualities I don't miss it but Josey makes up for it. BTW, Josey did not talk until she was a year of age and some do not until older so you still have plenty of time, patience.
  7. Just like his mum no doubt!
  8. You can always find a laugh can't you Jill, yes I would add a smiley too if I knew how or where to look, hopefully it is one of those "bugs" that are yet to be fixed. Happy hoovering!
  9. That was hilarious and I imagine it happens more times than we think, probably a common occurance with these birds, thanks for sharing.
  10. Alfie is such a sweetheart and a good girl, at least that is what she says but that was cute, very cute, thanks for sharing that with us.
  11. That is exactly right, when you settle into a set routine then they know but mix it up some and keep them guessing, excellent!
  12. Spock, you are being a bad boy but hey good boys have no fun besides when Jay turns his back on you for a moment you are smart enough to pull the wool over his eyes, maybe he will think twice before doing that again. Who needs mind melds, Spock rules.
  13. I am so sorry to hear you are needing to rehome Bonek but I hope you do find a good home for him, I agree that they need to show they will provide a good home.
  14. You might need it Lambert but I hope not, good luck with them and be sure to let us know how it goes with those 4 birds.
  15. Megan looks like she is standing guard keeping an eye on Alfie, she is protective of her isn't she, they both look to be enjoying the outside air and sunshine, thanks for sharing them with us.
  16. Issac sounds like he has a mind of his own even though he is so sweet, don't give up on the aviator harness just yet but do get a travel cage as it will certainly come in handy when he goes to the vet and for outings, my Josey loves to go in hers. I have seen Josey contort her body in ways that looks like she is hurting herself kind of like a pretzel as you described, I figured she was stretching herself in ways she normally wouldn't but it is funny to see. Both my birds love popcorn as most probably do.
  17. Thats a very nice signature, I am just waiting to get mine back, waiting patiently!
  18. Happy Hatch day Nilah, I know Mommy will be good to you today!
  19. I checked out your videos and pictures on facebook, she is very cute and yes we would love to see some more recent photos of her if you can manage that, she looks adorable. There are some very nice looking clings you can purchase for windows to keep your bird from flying into it thinking it is open, I tried to find the one that a member put up and it looked very nice, it was like etched glass.
  20. Josey isn't too keen on me blowing on her as she doesn't enjoy it but I did look and I don't see a gap of no feathers on her keel but I might not have looked that closely. If it looks ok otherwise then I wouldn't worry about it. It kind of seems to me that they don't have any feathers right on the keel bone area, the feathers on either side sort of come over and cover that area and makes it look like it is feathered but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
  21. Happy Hatchday Yoshi, my how time flies and you are already one year of age, hope there are many, many, many more to come, spoil her rotten today Jess.
  22. If he won't take it willingly then by all means do the smaller cage into the shower or if it is warm outside where you live you could do the same thing. My grey is not overly fond of a shower but she will tolerate it, I think he will feel better afterward and if you have to do this from time to time to get him wet then so be it.
  23. I am sorry to hear of Indy's plucking but you said nothing has changed recently to cause this, I think you need to rethink this very carefully as most of the time something caused her to pluck if that is what she is really doing. You might not have noticed any change but it might be so small that you have not paid it any mind but Indy did, I know for Josey is somewhat the same way in that she is scared of everything. It does sound like you are doing all the right things but it could be something so subtle that is causing her stress if she is plucking, maybe she is just going thru a heavy molt. Stay in touch as you haven't been on lately and let us know how it goes with her.
