  1. Thats because she hears her mommy say that all the time, your favorite place! Oh boy I can't wait to see that picture, tell her to hurry up and post it, times a wasting!
  2. Hello Sherry and welcome to our family, congrats on giving Winter a forever home but you realize since he is 14 years old you have some work cut out for you, it will not be so easy to win his heart and his trust but it can be done, you must be very patient with him and give him lots of time to get used to his new home. Yes please open his door and see if he will come out on his own, you can talk to him softly and maybe play with one of his toys to entice him to join in or at least be curious about it. Some greys become protective of their cages so it might be best to allow him to come out on his own and then try to get him to step up but I sense that you are hesitant to put your hand in the position to get him to step up and if you are afraid then he can sense that and that is why he is biting you, you must not hesitate just do it. The others you have mentioned that have been successful at getting him to step up have been confident in the way they go to him and show no fear, you would be surprised at how well they can sense your apprehension. The others have given great advice and if you follow their ideas and suggestions then you should do fine, just don't expect overnight success as you are dealing with an adult grey who has baggage and is set in his ways. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Now all we need is some pictures of Winter, hint, hint!
  3. I am going to follow Jay's advice to tell her "thank you, I love you" and leave her be for this type of behavior is not to be encouraged, hopefully in a few weeks it will subside.
  4. Aoodi is a beautiful grey and she is so lucky to have you in her life, maybe the pics aren't very clear but you can see how beautiful she is, thanks for sharing them with us.
  5. What a special moment in your life, the christening of Mia, she won't remember it but the pictures will tell her the story, you have a lovely family and a beautiful daughter, thanks for sharing that special time with us.
  6. That Nilah is a stinker isn't she Penny but loads of fun, too bad your daughter didn't capture a pic of her with that ring around her neck before she managed to get it off but I know removing it was first and foremost on her mind at the moment, gosh what will she get herself into next, can't wait for the next adventure of Nilah.
  7. Thats exactly how it is used and like Dan said it is one of the least toxic cleaners you can use for your wood floors but removing the bird until it has dried is just a precautionary measure, better to be on the safe side than sorry.
  8. Paul, birds have very sensitive respiratory systems and are affected by fumes from cleaners more so than we are, remember they used to use canaries in coal mines because if the gas buildup gets bad the canary dies first before it becomes toxic enough to kill humans, we have to be very careful of using cleaners around our birds.
  9. Thanks so much Jess for opening your heart and telling us your story, it just about brought me to tears but I am so grateful you shared it with us, this is so true and I hope it helps someone else thinking of getting a bird or a grey to really think about it thoroughly before committing to getting one, we owe them so much.
  10. I don't know but I would be concerned about it, a call into your avian vet would be the next thing.
  11. Unless SHE ever lays an egg and then you will know for sure, I had Josey sexed but the name could be used for both, remember the movie with Clint Eastwood, "The Outlaw Josey Wales"
  12. I like the name of Aoodi, you obviously picked it because you liked it too, why change it.
  13. This has appeared on the forum before but it always makes me laugh when I view it, thanks for sharing it with us.
  14. I will Lyn and she hasn't changed much but she has been staying in her cage more lately to play instead of coming out but it could be because of the new bird I have at the moment, she might be a little jealous but she was there before the cockatiel so I am always careful to make her first before I take care of the new bird.
  15. Why rename HER, she knows her name is Aoodi, can't that continue to be her name, what does that name mean? Congrats on having a she and not a he but she is still the same to you.
  16. Hooray Aoodi is home and he is doing good, that is the best news today.
  17. Beautiful birds and stupid me never knew why they were called double yellow headed amazons but I know now. That all yellow one is gorgeous a very stunning bird, thanks for this week's entry in the amazon series
  18. I am wondering the same thing, hope Aoodi is home safe and sound, please update us.
  19. Its different when you hear others talking about it and you haven't experienced it yourself, I was taken by surprise but now I am prepared for it but I wanted to just give her a hug but nope I resisted!
  20. Hey now thats an idea, thanks Janet.
  21. OMG, I have listened to other member's describing how their greys were acting sexually, the wings drooped, panting and making cute little noises, well yesterday Josey did that for me and was I surprised. She has been grabbing my finger with her talon and pulling it close to her but never anything further until yesterday, I just thanked her and walked away, I had no idea of how it was going to be like but I do now, no more of that hanky panky, my gosh, my little girl is growing up.
  22. You know I kind of like the ring of Ambassador Judy, makes me feel important which I am not any more than anyone else here but I have been called much worse than Ambassador but I won't bore you with those, ahem:o does this mean that people should grovel at my feet or bow in my presence!
  23. As Penny said we all have something to contribute, each and every one of us so no one member is more important than any of the others for we are all one big family when combined and I am proud to be one of those members but I find from time to time it is better to walk away and say nothing than say something in the heat of the moment that will later be regretted, we all need a break at one time or another but I wish Jill would come back for her humor is missed.
