I hope Odin is found, he is a beautiful bird and pionus parrots are close to your heart Adina since that is what Sachi is.

I know this is really frustrating for you and it is unusual for a 6 month old grey to start plucking itself but something is just not right and I think when you figure it out then Tui will be ok. You are doing the right thing in taking her to a vet who specializes in birds and hopefully he/she will be able to help you with her. I know you are devastated by her plucking but please try to ignore it for she might just continue to do it for the reaction she is getting from you. Please do keep us informed.

Yes you did Steve and thanks.

So sad Shelia and thanks for the warning, tissues were needed.

Yes a lot of us make mashes for our fids but we also provide a good pellet brand along with fresh veggies and such. I leave pellets in Josey's cage at all times replenishing when needed so that she can snack on them all day and even at night if she so desires. Pellets do not take the place of good mashes or vice versa, it is a supplement to their mash and fresh foods.

You know you're a dedicated bir owner when... (part 2)
judygram replied to Lambert58's topic in The GREY Lounge
I totally agree with being a "dedicated bird owner" rather than just a "bird nut" kind of puts it in a better perspective doesn't it. -
Good Morning everyone! Starting Potty training today...
judygram replied to JDS5607's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yes that makes sense, we have carpet in the family room where the bird's cages are but I put down vinyl carpet protector runners around Josey's cage as she likes to walk around the skirt and poops over the edge, works like a charm for all I have to do is wipe it clean but when we replace the carpet it will be with some type of tile, no more carpet. -

Oh definitely I can relate to that one as I am sure we all do. -
I am going to be gone for about a week, Julie will be so tired of me by then.

Congrats on getting Sully potty trained and that sun too, I wish I had potty trained my sun conure, guess it is too late now for she rides around on my shoulder all the time and I usually have poop down my back or she just happens to hit the floor with it and then I step in it, eww. -
Steve, Milo is one cute little grey baby, so adorable and you are doing a wonderful job with her, not to burst your bubble but the road will not always be so smooth so be prepared for a few bumps along the way. They certainly do grow up quick and change into an adult sized bird capable of flight maneuvers that will amaze you, so glad she is such a joy to you and your family. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures with us.

I am leaving in a few weeks to go visit one of my bestest friends here on the greyforums, Julie aka Joolesgreyuk. This is my first trip out of the USA and I am so excited about it, of course so is she and I think the two of us are going to have one hell of a time, watch out world for you may not be prepared for the aftermath. Its a long way over there and it will cost me some money but it is money well spent in my opinion. I am hoping that in the near future she will be able to come to visit me at my home so I can show her around the sights here in my part of Virginia. I will take lots of pictures and share some of them with you all here when I get back. I can't wait Jules, Jude is coming!

I feed my grey Harrisons High Potency pellets as most avian vets recommend it and she eats them regularly but Dave is right you shouldn't change the pellets from what he is eating now, keep him on the same ones and then later you can gradually start mixing in another brand until he is eating only the kind you want to feed him. Right now he is adjusting to as new home with new owners and everything is new to him so you shouldn't do anything else to upset him now.

I knew what you meant Steve but to tell the truth we do need a new tutorial for posting pictures as the directions given in the present one is for the old forum and this one is somewhat different, maybe TalonSis could work on that for us.

I used to clip Sunny, my sun conure but do not anymore, does that count!

I guess you are on cloud nine right now, congrats on a job well done.

Emma's partial Success on Exotic Wood Dreams Flyer.

That Emma is one gorgeous bird and Adina manages to get some good shots of her, she will be on it before you know it. -
I hope each and every one finds a new forever home, what a sad situation.

Josey does a fair job of keeping her nails from being too sharp but I would never attempt to clip them myself. DrTak if you feel Lulu's nails do need a trim then have your avian vet do it for you.

My first grey comes home tomorrow, I can't wait!

Hello Amanda and welcome to our family, congrats on taking in a rehomed grey, I know you were going to get a baby but the opportunity presents itself and maybe it was meant to be this way. Yes I am sure this bird will come with some baggage and it may be a while before he unpacks it but just give him plenty of time and be very patient with him and he will settle in and you will see what his true personality is and it might surprise you. I can imagine his owner wil be very sad to lose him but she knows he is going to good hands to someone who will do whatever it takes to make him happy and provide him with what he needs to be a well contented bird. As you have already done your research do continue to read the many threads here for lots of useful information, books and such will give you lots of advice but sometimes first hand experience is the best and you have come to the right place for we have many knowledgeable members who will go out of their way to help you with whatever you ask. We would love to see some pictures of him if you would share some with us, btw what is his name? -
So happy I found your forums!

I am so happy for you Jess, your prayers have been answered.

hi can someone answer some questions please ?
judygram replied to poddypod's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
My opinion is if you end up still wanting a grey just get one, two greys will be too demanding of your time and since you have no experience with them one will be more than enough for you to handle, besides if you get two and they bond with each other then they may not bond with you. In any case do lots and lots of research before you plunge into this, you need to know this is what you really want and you can handle it, ask questions and we will do our best to get you some answers. -
New to the forum, and to owning a grey!

Hello Jenn and welcome to our family, you have quite a flock going there and with all those nieces and nephews who needs kids! They are a lovely bunch of birds you have, I also have a sun conure and she is about 5 1/2 years old now and yours will be that bright yellow and orange when she molts the next time or two. Continue to look thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. -
Hello Finedon and welcome to our family, my that is a fine looking grey you have there, Hello Dolly! I am assuming that is your daughter there with Dolly, they look to be getting along just fine. We have lots of threads on different topics that you should read thru at your leisure, they will provide lots of useful information and if you don't find what you need then by all means ask questions and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks so much for including pictures in your intro post, now we don't have to ask for them.
