You need to offer him a healthier diet and quit feeding him sausage for that is way too fatty and salty, take a browse thru the bird food room for lots of ideas and suggestions as to what to feed. It is ok for them to eat a lot of the stuff we eat as long as it is without added salt and fat, a little chicken now and then is fine too. There are also several threads that tell what we shouldn't feed them for it is toxic to their little systems. Try offering plenty of veggies and a little fruit, beans, rice, some pasta and grains to give him a wide variety of things to eat, he might not take to them right off the bat but keep offering them and sometimes they will eventually try them.

Believe me thats not that crazy an idea to give them a box to play with, some enjoy getting inside boxes and peering out or just destroying it but it can provide hours of fun and hey you can't beat the price, you would be surprised at what they will play with and enjoy and it doesn't cost a cent, how about the top off of a pop bottle, my Josey loves to play with those.

Hi I'm New, Questions about Adopting New Grey(s)
judygram replied to mindyluz's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Mindyluz and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you want to bring another grey into your life. I am so sorry you lost the first one you had but it just wasn't meant to be but now you are ready to open your heart to a new baby grey. I can see your reasoning behind wanting to get two babies at the same time but remember that two together will probably bond to each other and not have as close a relationship with you as if you were to just go with one at this time plus you will have to be able to give two greys the time and attention they both need and want and if they happen to not get along with one another then it could present a problem. It is natural to compare the new one to your previous one but they will probably be as different as night and day as each grey has its own personality and no two are alike but each is special in his/her own right. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. -
Lisa you are in for a treat!

I am so sorry to hear this Susan and my heart goes out to your friend and HotShot, I will keep good thoughts for her and please keep us informed.

I can imagine that your shouting back to him when he whistles is only reinforcing the behavior, you have to ignore the bad behavior and reward the good and remember any kind of reaction to the obnoxious noise will only be entertainment for him to continue it. I know this will be hard to do but its the only way for him to learn to be quieter but some greys are just noiser than others. Why don't you tell us some more about you and your grey, what is his name, how old is he, how long have you had him and so forth so we can get to know you a little better and be more able to help you with your problem but please don't think you have to get rid of him because he makes a noise that is driving you crazy, he needs a stable home with owners who won't give up on him just because he is too loud at times.

You gotta love those eagles, loved the music and the pictures, thanks for sharing this with us.

I'm glad to hear you didn't have his wings clipped and as far as your husband and mother thinking you are nuts well we already know that and only we understand how you feel, I bet they think Romo is just a bird huh when in fact he is so much more. They do have a mind of their own especially when they get closer to maturity age and you will just have to learn how to deal with it as we all are finding out at least those of us who are first time grey owners. You are right about one thing, you will learn a lot from reading thru all the threads here, I think most questions have been answered in one form or another in this forum, you just have to do a little searching to find it all. I think you are going to do fine with Romo.

I'm still waiting for the picture Stephen but that is so funny that Issac goes for your toes!

That fruity mix is probably a pellet blend, we feed our greys some kind of pellet, a lot of us use Harrison's for it is recommended by a lot of vet's, it has a lot of nutrition that adds to what we feed them as fresh foods, some should be available at all times in their cage for snacking during the day or night. It doesn't take the place of fresh foods but it supplements it. I use the Harrison't High Potency blend for Josey.

Mehmetk, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and Yakup so we can try to help you.

You will find more toy making ideas in the Homemade toys and playstands room, some of them are made from common household items and of course you can always browse thru the baby department of stores for other cheaper toys for grey.

She is the one who knows whether she wants it or not and if she doesn't want it then its time to drop it but do keep watch on her weight, I bet she flies very soon and then the real fun begins.

She looks to be posing there with the harness on, like saying "see this isn't so bad, what took you so long!";)

Hello. I would like to introduce Pippa :o)
judygram replied to Tweedle's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Welcome to our family Tweedle and Pippa, she is a beautiful grey and it was meant for you two to be together, I can't wait to hear more about her and thank you so much for giving her a forever home and the care she needs, she is precious. -
BTW, did you eat the snake?

Hello Tweedle and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you could give this grey a good home for it seems she needed you and I bet you needed her too, what a wonderful thing. She is a beautiful grey and she doesn't know she is handicapped so she goes about her business as if she was perfect in every sense and she is, just because she doesn't move around like other greys doesn't mean she is not as happy as she could be. Do not feel sad because she doesn't move around like other greys you see, she is not to be pitied for she is full of life, you have provided her with the necessary tools to live a long and happy life maybe not in the same way as other greys but she is determined to live to the fullest and she does. I really commend you for taking on this task for it couldn't be easy with her health problems but you two were meant for each other, she might move a little slow and with difficulty but her heart is full of love for you, thats evident in how you speak of her and I bet she is the sweetest grey you have ever met. You two are truly blessed to have found one another.

Wanted - Baby Congo African Grey by October
judygram replied to miniHUEY's topic in Classifieds Room
There is no set age that a grey is weaned, it can be as young as 15 weeks to more than 20 weeks or even more, a baby grey sets his own weaning schedule if they are abundance weaned and no reputable breeder will sell one before it is weaned. -

Hello Michele and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rose. I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your sister but it is wonderful that you could take in Rose and give her a good forever home, I am sure your sister rests in peace knowing that you have Rose and giving her the care she deserves. Thats wonderful that you can feel at peace when Rose talks in your sister's voice, for some people it would be a sad reminder of their loss but you continue to hear her voice in Rose which means that your sister taught her a lot before she passed. You will learn a lot by reading thru the many threads here and we have many knowledgeable members here who are willing to help you in any way they can, all you have to do is ask questions you may have. We would love to see some pictures of Rose if you have some of her you would share with us.
