I know you will do whatever it takes to get Jakob home with you and if you have to bite your tongue then so be it, please keep us informed of what develops as you have been and good luck to you. -
Diego is one camera ham and he does it so well, thanks for sharing those pics with us, you have quite a handsome fella that could have any pick of career choices but I think he has already chosen one and that is the apple of his momma's eye.

Emma is one special grey and she belongs to a special person Adina, you are so loved.

In my opinion the sooner the better and there is nothing wrong with wanting to take your grey with you when you go places, I usually take my grey on weekend trips to visit my son who lives about 4 hours away and she does just fine. She stays in a travel cage and plays and talks on the trip. Greys usually don't like change but if going places with you is what you want to do then it will become routine to your grey and it will help to socialize him/her with other people and being in different situations. Actually they need for things to be shaken up now and then so they don't get into a rut or a rigid routine, a routine is good but not so rigid that any change upsets the cart.

Me too Jan, wish that Josey would do that but alas not, thanks Janet for sharing that with us. -
If he spends his days outside the cage then no he doesn't want to go back inside but for his own safety he does need to be caged whenever you aren't at home and at night for sleep. Do you provide him with food and water outside his cage? If so then stop that and only put his food and water inside the cage so he has to go back inside to eat or drink, he won't starve himself and will go back if hungry enough. You must have bought this grey unweaned at 11 weeks of age, did you finish the handfeeding yourself? Thats right, you provide him with pellets that are available at all times for him to snack on as they do that all day long, I know mine does. You might also entice him back into his cage by offering him a treat or something he really likes and if he wants it he has to go inside to get it.
-
Thats good that his bloodwork came back normal but most plucking problems are not caused by physical reasons. Do keep up the use of the aloe vera juice sprays and who knows the palm oil may help him with his plucking, at least it can't hurt him.

Well congrats on your new job as that should be an enjoyable one but you will be tempted many times I am sure but at least you can play with them even if you can't bring any of them home with you. I also agree on the changing of clothes and cleaning up after you leave your job and before you come into contact with your precious fids.

Tui and Ziggy are beautiful birds, love the one of Ziggy in the flightsuit and thanks for sharing them with us, I too have a grey and a conure, a sun conure and now a cockatiel.
-
I know you are worried and if I were in your position I would be too but just keep doing what you are doing now, offering softer foods until you can see the vet on Monday but I imagine that Tui will be just fine in a few days, keep us informed.

This is wonderful news and I hope it works out for you for you sound like you will give Jakob a very loving home, sometimes things happen for a reason but the important thing is it looks like Jakob has a new forever home, keep us posted and I look forward to the 23rd and the celebration. -
That will be quite an adventure for Tigerlily and even though she may have to spend a lot of time in her cage being outside she will be with you so it should be quite enjoyable for her, maybe get a couple of pics of her to share with us when you get back, hint, hint.

My children are grown but I have 3 grandkids who I do not allow to get close to Josey for she is leery of them but she is not aggressive towards them but I have a sun conure who does not like young children, she has bitten both of my grand girls, one just this past week. She will fly to her if she comes near me and tries to bite her and of course she succeeded before I could get her off her so she stayed in her cage for the remainder of their visit. The older one has been bitten in the past but she is 9 years old now and learning that moving slowly she is allowing her to touch her now so when the younger one gets older she will be ok with her too.

They look about the size of a conure and I bet they are characters because I can see it in the face of the one in the foreground, thanks for sharing the pictures with us, they are adorable.

First there are no stupid questions and if you don't ask you might not find out the answers so ask any questions you like. I think there is little difference in the temperament of either the male or female, maybe the male might be a little more agressive but our experts here will confirm that for us, I have a female but have never dealt with a male so I would not know. I don't think that just because they are female birds that means they will lay eggs, I am hoping mine never does and if you don't provide them with anything to make a nest out of or encourage that behavior then it should be fine. Josey is 4 years old so she is nor quite mature yet but I am not going to worry about her laying eggs until it happens. Some people think that a male will bond easier with another male or vice versa is a myth, sometimes a grey will prefer one sex over another but they can have great relationships with all members of a family and it helps to start that socializing early to ensure a well rounded grey.

Hello Cass and welcome to our family and I can't wait to see some pictures of Yoshi and Halo. You have come to the right place to learn all you can for we have numerous threads loaded with info and many knowledgeable members who are willing to share what they know with you.

Hello Wendi and welcome to our family, congrats on soon getting your grey and I can't wait to see Greycie. You do seem to have a house full but Greycie will have lots of people to give her their time and attention and its nice to know several members of the family are willing to step up and take her if anything should happen to you, thats always a nice relief to know. You will learn loads here from all the many threads so do read thru them when you get the chance and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanksgiving seems a long time away but time flies and it will be here before we know it.

Something about this picture I have in my mind to waking up with a rat laying next to me gives me the heebie jeebies! Indy is one smart grey, too smart for his own good but I had to laugh.

Take a deep breath Tanya, you know greys can be beaky and he is telling you he isn't ready to go back to his cage but I wouldn't use the stick, if you do then that is telling him that he is winning the battle. Try balling your hand into a fist first before approaching Jackson because the taut skin on the back of the fist is harder to grab a hold of to inflict damage. When he goes to beak you tell him firmly "No bite" then offer the fist but the most important thing is to not be afraid of him biting you for he can sense if you are afraid of him. There are also some threads here that deal with biting greys and ones that don't want to go back inside the cage but if you persist in telling him the no bite then in time he should back off some when he finds out that is not acceptable behavior. Remember its always darkest right before dawn.

Oh the beautiful babies, they are so adorable and if they were near me I would be there all the time playing with them or I would just have to stay out of that place completely, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
