  1. I just bought some poppy seed treats for Josey so I just assumed they were safe though I haven't opened the bag yet but I will now, thanks Birdnut for asking the question.
  2. Wow, I love that owl, what a beautiful creature!

  3. Neptune was feeling very at home then and confident to be talking, watch out for the floodgates might be open now.
  4. Hello Kathy and welcome to our family, we are so glad you want to be owned by a grey and you have come to the right place to learn all about them. Please read thru our many threads for lots of useful and helpful information, ask questions and we will help you in any way we can but most of all do the research to find out for sure whether a grey is a good fit for you as we hate to see any of these amazing creatures end up in rehomes. I think you will be better off to look for a breeder of greys and get yourself a just weaned baby as an adult grey from a previous home will be coming with some baggage that may make it more difficult to settle into a new home and of course the internet is full of scams as you have seen. I would love to see a picture of your conure if you would share one or two with us, we have an other birds room where you could post it.
  5. Wow what a setup, you have two lucky greys to have such a wonderful play area and you get to watch a little tv thru the branches, lucky you, thanks for sharing that with us.
  6. He may turn out to be one of those "closet talkers" meaning he won't say much in front of anyone including you, some are just like that but he has not unlearned anything, he just might like the way Neptune sounds, when talking to him put emphasis on some words for lots of times its not what is said so much as the way it is said.
  7. I'm sure you did but if it never happens again that will be thanks enough so don't beat yourself up for accidents do happen but the important thing is you have learned from it.
  8. I love the way Pepper runs across the back of the couch, he is full of himself and he thinks he is a woodpecker in the second video, what a ham you have Brittany, thanks for sharing them ith us, was these vids shot before or after his foot mishap?
  9. Thanks for the update Brittany and so glad to hear he is doing just fine.
  10. As Josey is incapable of flight right now she is dependent on me to take her everywhere but Sunny and Gypsy are flighted but Sunny will only fly if startled, she won't fly just for the sake of flying but Gypsy does, she loves to fly around the room sometimes making circles before deciding to land somewhere.
  11. That must be some British lingo "knob" but it must be a small amount, come on Carolina and educate us on knob?
  12. I have to echo Carolina aka GoDiego about doing the research before committing to one of these parrots, be sure you know what you are getting yourself into, what they need to be healthy and happy for it is better to know what it takes before you get it than after for we hate to see birds end up in rehomes. There is a lot of information here on our site and plenty on the internet, then after doing that you still want it then it was meant to be.
  13. Not to worry as he still has plenty of time to talk and the fact that he has said two words means he is capable and does talk, Josey didn't talk until she was one year of age and some take longer than that, he will learn words and phrases by you talking to him every day, tell him about your day and what you are doing, have a conversation with him like he was another person in the room and soon you will hear lots more than Cobi and Neptune, be patient. Thanks for sharing some more pictures, he is one handsome fella.
  14. For someone who doesn't even have a grey you did a good job of describing how a grey and an amazon would react to different situations if they were humans, I am impressed! Thanks for sharing that with us Carolina.
  15. Jaffa is adorable and so is the name, what a lovely amazon you have, you must be on cloud nine right now, thanks for sharing the pics with us and enjoy your new companion, looking forward to hearing more about her.
  16. Those are the two things we preach here, time and patience for without both you are not meant for grey ownership, trust and bonding with your grey is not something you can rush, it takes time and lots of patience to earn it and it must be earned.
  17. I'm lucky that the room my fids are in is a big room with windows in one end that take up most of the wall so they get lots of natural light but that doesn't take the place of full spectrum lighting which is very beneficial in the winter months.
  18. That looks awesome Chelsea, what a wonderful idea either as a momento or info for the next owner, can't wait to see your entries.
  19. Karen have you had experience with large macaws? If not then let this offer slide but in my opinion I would not think a breeder bird would make for a good pet, of course I don't know much about the macaws but I wouldn't tackle one of them unless I had vast experience dealing with those large birds and what it takes to keep one healthy and happy.
  20. He is a cutie pie all right, thanks for sharing a pic of him with us, some clamp down more so than others, my Josey has never bitten down hard on me, she has been easy going ever since I have had her and she is over 4 years old but each one is an individual and you can work on the beaking hard a little further down the road and who knows when he gets more adept at climbing and perching he might just ease up on his own.
  21. Even though I am an American I would love for this bird to take the world record from us, long live the Artic tern.
  22. I think he is just checking things out right now and using his beak to steady himself as he is so young, as he grows if he continues to bite down hard then you can start to teach him that biting down hard is not acceptable and he will learn that less pressure is needed. Greys can be clumsy at this age and he is just making sure he doesn't fall so cut him a little slack for the time being. I sure would like to see some pictures of Spencer right now, hint, hint!
  23. He definitely wants something, either to take flight or be picked up, you should go to him and see if he would step up for you but he looks really excited, don't be nervous, just calmly go to him and see if he stays put. He certainly is cute bobbing around on the door of the cage, thanks for sharing that video with us.
  24. I have never had an amazon but some of the other members do and they love them so maybe they will chime in with their thoughts and ideas. Yes you will have to give up your teflon pans but not the air conditioning especially if it is the central kind, now if you have window units then you may have to put the cage where the air is not blowing directly on your bird, I have central air in my home and my birds do just fine, it gets hot in the summer here and very humid at times so it is a necessity.
  25. Hello Cobi and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Neptune. You will learn a lot here as we have many knowledgable members, you may find the answers to some of your questions in our many threads but if you do have any questions feel free to ask and we will do our best to get you an answer. I assume that is Neptune in your avatar but if you have other pictures of him you would share with us we would love to see them.
