I know and I can hardly wait, I saw a preview when I went to the theater not too long ago, it comes out in April and I am so excited.

I too have no real help to offer other than what the others have said about moving her to where she is with the other members of your flock but it breaks my heart to read your story and I have to say that you are doing all you can to help her, I will keep good thoughts that she will stop the mutilating and allow her skin to heal. She is a precious bird and she is so blessed to have found you.

Now you know it is impossible to please everybody but the snow just keeps piling up and tommorrow is Groundhog Day so I bet he predicts another 6 weeks winter weather.
-
Me too Barbara, we missed the storm this time, went north of us but we are getting rain since it is too warm for snow or ice but I see that many people are having a rough time and power is out for many, hope everyone is warm and safe.

That looks nice Kim, you are very creative, thanks for sharing your handiwork with us.

Thats great that she took a liking to the pellets, they will provide good nutrition to her diet, you lucked out on that one for many are hesitant to eat pellets if they haven't been included in their diet to start with. To include some calcium in her diet offer her a couple slivers of cheddar cheese a couple of times a week, no more than a half inch square, my birds go nuts over cheese and they eat it without dropping a single morsel unlike the other things they eat. Keep offering the veggies especially the leafy green ones for they may not eat them to start with but finally one day they take a notion to nibble on them.

I checked a few sites and found this and it lists fava beans as toxic so I wouldn't feed them to Rubi. http://www.avianweb.com/toxicfoods.html

No you won't thats for sure. I see you are going to have a busy weekend with going down to get Yoshi and all her things but I think it will all go fine and she will make a smooth transition into your home, she will certainly have plenty of company, I know you will keep us informed and share pictures when you get the chance. Have a safe trip down and an uneventul one back home Robin.

We escaped the snow this time as we have milder temperatures right now so all we are getting is some rain but maybe we will get lucky again soon and get another good snow.
-
Some play harder than others but like Janet said move the toys away from the sides of the cage and more toward the middle so they have plenty of room to swing around with them when they play.
-
The three of you should get together and meet each other's birds and share experiences, who knows you might use one another for bird sitting purposes.

I knew he would be just fine if you had an excellent vet which you did and he soon got over it just like mine did, he is just small boned I guess for a Cag but he is well within the normal range for weight and he is healthy so yes you worry too much, now you can get back to enjoying Greyson. Thanks for letting us know how the visit went and thats wonderful you found a good vet, definitely a keeper.

Rub it in Robin!

So happy to hear that Blue is getting better and is able to fly, I know that takes a heap off your shoulders for you were quite scared about him and we were all concerned but normal is what you will get if he continues to improve and why shouldn't he, you know you wouldn't want it any other way Robin, bless his little pea pickin heart. -
He is a sweet looking grey baby, they are so adorable at this age, thanks for sharing the pics with us. Yes he will be fine in this cage, I would put his perches down lower so he has less distance to go if he falls, thats good you put down some padding to cushion any falls but if a grate came with the cage use it so he does not step around in his own poop, most cages now come with them and using it is more sanitary for the bird, then you can just change the paper. You do not need to shred the paper, just lay a few sheets of it so you can observe the poops, thats one of the first ways we detect illnesses in birds is by checking the poops.

Tommy you will learn a lot by reading thru our many threads as you will find useful information and answers to questions you may not have even thought of yet, read, read, read.

Thanks Sherrie for sharing that story of Robyn, how stupid can a person be but so glad that you gave him a few good years.

Shelby is adorable, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

One thing that some here do when they have to get their grey to step up is to offer a closed fist for with the skin pulled taut they have a harder time getting a grip to bite so try that. If you don't want him climbing to your shoulder then you will have to use your other hand to block his way and keep doing it to keep him down, you may have to do it a hundred times or more but keep doing it until he stops. I allow my grey on my shoulder as do some others but I know my bird and she comes down when I ask and as long as she behaves herself then she has that priviledge, she has earned it as it is not freely given. You can also put a treat he cannot resist in his cage when you want him to go inside, let him see you put it in his cage, he will eventually go inside to get it and then shut the door.

My grey really goes for cheddar cheese, she will eat every morsel of a sliver of it without dropping any but it is an occasional treat. Greys are one of the quieter of the parrots, they have their times they are talking and making all kind of sounds and then the rest of the time are content to just sit for a while and observe their surroundings or preen. They love to imitate household sounds and since she has found out that mimicing the microwave makes the dog bark she finds enjoyment in that, now that is a grey for ya.
-
She definitely sounds spoiled but since she is out most of the time she probably wants to just stay out and when she is in the cage she is sulking in the corner. I knew a grey who never wanted to be inside the cage and when caged he would go to a corner and put his feet on the sides and push up like he was trying to lift the cage top off to get out. I think in time this will resolve itself but for now do not worry too much about it since she gets quality time out with you and lots of interaction.

Hello Yardley, she may not enjoy sunflower seeds as most usually do, you will have to experiment to find what is her favorite food and use that, my grey does not go nuts over sunflower seeds either. It sounds like she is adjusting quickly to her new home but do not rush the training as I would give her time to really settle into her new digs. Lots of greys pick at their feet including mine so it is normal behavior but if her talons are too long or sharp you can either get her some cement perches to help dull them down or take her to the vet for a trim.

Hello Tommy and welcome to our family, you have come to the right place to learn all you can about greys so start by reading thru all the threads for lots of useful information. We do have many knowledgeable members who will share what they know with you, all you have to do is ask and we will help you in any way we can. I have to comment though that they should not have sold you an unweaned bird as that is best left to those who know what they are doing but you have the baby home now so we will try to help you as best as we can. Dan is right, leave the tv or radio on during the day while you are at work to provide background noise as greys are easily startled and we all know how sounds can be strange in a quiet house. Please do share some pictures with us of your baby grey when you get a chance. BTW, have you decided on a name yet?
