  1. I bet he is jealous of the attention you are giving your mom when you are on the phone with her, thats my guess but who knows what is going on in that little walnut sized brain of his but it sounds cute.
  2. Emma knows what she likes and she doesn't care if it belongs to Mabel, that only makes it more enticing, thanks for sharing that with us.
  3. Hello Jeff and welcome to our family, its wonderful that you want to add a grey to your life and you are doing the right thing to learn all you can before committing to one of these amazing creatures. There are small differences in Tags versus Cags but both are fairly quiet birds and that is a myth that one sex prefers males or females over the other, I have a female and she is bonded to me, she tolerates my hubby but will give him kisses. You will find lots of information in our many threads so do read thru as many of them as you can and do ask those questions you may have and we will do our best to help you in any way we can. I wish all prospective owners would do the research before getting one of these magnificient creatures for so many will get one on a whim without any idea of what they are getting into and the bird is the one who suffers for it. I commend you for volunteering with the local parrot rescue, I can imagine you will learn a lot with hands on experience.

    Beans....

The mold usually found in peanuts in the shell kills lots of birds which is why they should never be fed.
  5. Thanks Heather for the update on AnnaBella, I know that was first and foremost in your mind when chlamydia was mentioned but if your vet assures you she will be fine then thats great news and great that she seems to feel better, hoping the results come back negative.
  6. Hello Iijoke and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about Paulie. I assume that is her in your avatar, she is a beauty.
  7. I would let your new baby settle in some and then introduce the harness but it is more likely she will accept it if it is introduced at a young age. Paulie, the harness is used to take your bird out to fly and is attached to a flight line so your bird is always connected to you and cannot fly away.
  8. Congrats Tamara on finally getting your baby grey home, now the real fun begins, looking forward to seeing some pictures.
  9. Give Millie the phone next time and let her call in her picks!
  10. Its something to keep in mind NikB, not scolding you but Jill speaks from experience and I would never want either of your birds to get hurt, at least you have been made aware of it.
  11. You have a wonderful outlook on life and its true that we can always find someone who has it worse than we do, to be able to find something good in all the bad is an exceptional trait something we all could use. Oh you do have a two year old there all the time in Greyson for the rest of his life. About the pictures, you might try hosting them on www.photobucket.com as that is the site the most of us use.
  12. The thread you were looking for is here: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?10076-Grey-Owner-What-do-you-look-like Those are some great pictures of you and Zak, he is looking at you so adorable, thanks for sharing them with us.
  13. I don't know much about macaws but he has clearly shown he prefers females and it may stay that way but he will still bond with you, it will just be in a different way, hopefully some of the members who have macaws will chime in with their ideas and suggestions for you Kevin.
  14. Then at least she will be with familiar people, that is better than with strangers but she should be just fine, if they won't be allowing her any out of cage time because you aren't there she will survive for one week and be so glad to see you when you get back all will be forgiven.
  15. Oh it doesn't surprise me in the least that they can tell them apart but I don't know how they do it, only Chili knows for sure.
  16. Millie certainly showed who she liked or disliked, they can be funny creatures, thanks for sharing that with us, who needs tv.
  17. Hello Jellygator and welcome to our family, yes I would have to say that most of us who have more than one bird have different species of birds for there is just not one particular type we love the most. Morana asked some pertinent questions that need answering, were these birds rehomes or rescued? If they are mature birds with previous owners then they came with baggage that will not change but you can learn to adapt to. I don't have an amazon or an eclectus but we do have some members who do have either one or both so they may be of some help to you with your situation but in the meantime do read thru a lot of the threads here for information, we do have an amazon room so be sure to start there.
  18. Hello Sherrie and welcome to our family, that is quite a story and thanks for sharing it with us, it helps us get to know you better. You have certainly had a lot to deal with and I bet Greyson is a delight to have around and great company even if he has turned out to be the opposite of what you expected, thats typical for they have their own personalities and will become more apparent as he gets to maturity. Sometimes we wonder who owns who for they seem to have the upper hand most of the time but we wouldn't have it any other way. Now all we need is some pictures of Greyson so we can admire him.

    Beans....

Most all of the beans are fine to feed our greys, they must be cooked of course, my Josey loves beans and they are a good part of their diet with veggies. I feed pecans, walnuts, peanuts, cashews and occasionally other nuts in moderation, all are the unsalted variety and the peanuts I give are human grade without the shell for the shell is what could harbor the mold that is toxic.
  20. Isn't it wonderful when they come around like that after being aloof for so long, glad to hear it is continuing to improve with Morgan, you were probably beginning to think he was never going to open up to you but I hope you get to keep the bird you have this week.
  21. Poor dear, no wonder he hates boxes, I would suggest putting one in the room with him and put it far enough away that he isn't bothered by it and gradually as the days go by bringing it nearer to him and eventually putting a treat he absolutely loves and let him see you put it there, it may take weeks but it should get him accustomed to the box.
  22. Chris I know you will be on pins and needles until this is over and done with, be assured she is in capable hands and all will be over soon and she will be just fine, keep us informed as always.
  23. I found this on http://parrotisland.mainsecureserver.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=549 CLEANING: We have found that the best way to clean the Get A Grip Climbing Nets is to wipe down or soak the dirty areas in the Oxyfresh Cleansing Gele' which we use for cleaning everything used with our birds! A mild liquid dishwashing liquid (like Dove or Palmolive) diluted at 2 tablespoons per gallon of warm water can also work. They may also be washed in a FRONT LOADING clothes washng machine - but NOT in top loaders as they can get caught in the agitator and potentially be destroyed! Hope it helps.
  24. Yes for the air purifier is only taking particles and allergens out of the air and not supplying moisture as a humidifier will.
