I moved it to the other birds room so it is where it belongs, Pete looks like he is pretty content to sit and watch you while you surf the forum and would you look at that, Pete is looking at one of my posts, hope it meets with his approval, thanks for sharing that cute shot with us.

Thanks Crazy for considering to rehome this grey, it seems he has been passed around a little and he needs a forever home. He also needs a cage and if the one he has, that is if it is coming with him, is too filthy to use then purchase a new one for he needs one to be in whenever you are not at home and at night, a cage is a bird's safety zone where they feel protected. If you seriously intend to take this grey do take it to the vet for a complete checkup but in my opinion I would keep him even if he turns out to have a medical problem for he needs the stability of a forever home, right now he sees his next home as just another stop along the way, I hate to see a bird being passed around from one person to another and it makes it difficult for him to come to trust another person again. He looks pretty good from the pictures you shared but do let us know what you do decide to do.

Looks good, the cage I mean and not the mess.

Timmy is fixated on "what ya doing" right now for he likes the sound of his new voice, pretty soon he will tire of it when he hears something else he wants to repeat, they will pick up what they like and repeat it so be careful of what you say and enjoy his vocalizations as he gets better and better at it.

As long as none of the follicles were damaged in the clip then the feathers should grow back but yes a bird should be allowed to fledge when young to learn how to fly and land before ever attempting to clip any wing feathers. Have you taken Rocky to an avian vet to have him checked out? If not then that would be my next move.

Any time an animal has to go under anesthesia there is always a slight risk, that includes for us humans too but if you trust your vet completely then I don't see a problem with it to get x-rays, as far as worrying about her escaping from their hands and getting caught by a dog who may be walking by forget about it for they are well practiced in the procedures necessary to keep her safe, in other words an avian vet knows all the precautions. Don't worry and fret unnecessarily, your vet is a professional and she is in good hands, let us know what you find out Heather.

As Dave so eloquently put in the above quote yes your baby is turning into a brat. Please read thru the thread I am providing a link to, we hear this story over and over again. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?191841-Close-to-Murdering-My-Bird Your baby is just growing up and becoming more independent, he wants to make decisions for himself and he has found he can stir up some mischief, its all in the day and life of living with a wild animal. As you can see from his behavior at other times he is still his sweet self most of the time so all I can tell you is to accept him as he is for he is just being a bird.

Aw she is a lovely looking grey and that is greyt that she has been given a clean bill of health, thanks Joe for sharing the pictures of Willow. You may have to do something different about the video, it won't work as it is, thanks.

Jessie, try those two sites to find breeders in PA: http://www.birdbreeders.com/birds.aspx www.avianbiotech.com

No you can use it while it is semi solid if you like but most greys won't eat it that way, by heating it to make it more liquid you can stir it into softer type foods or drizzle it over veggies, pellets and so forth.

Unwanted ear piercing scream. Help!
judygram replied to mcclain32's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
It will be hard to do I know but it is the only way he will stop or at least lessen the amount of screaming, I am sure the book you are talking about told you to ignore the bad behavior and reward the good, positive reinforcement is what it is called. You have to think of things in terms of small steps and being able to rub his head is one step, take them as you are able to and patiently wait for the next one, you are doing great. -
Josey has picked up my laugh and it is so funny to hear it come from her beak, I am surprised that he hasn't already mimiced it before now, little Issac is growing up.

Well I know we all are gonna enjoy watching this baby develop into a lovely bird so keep the pics coming Bonnie.
-
Sadly yes you are right as they do seem to promote wing clipping and I can see where you get your other points from too but otherwise I do enjoy the magazine especially the pictures and they list the bird club shows, fairs and conventions that I have been to or want to go to but no one magazine or source can get it all right. Thanks Dan for taking the time to answer my question.
-
I guess no one of them is perfect but I find that interesting that you feel that way about Bird Talk, want to give us an example of one or two of them Dan?
-
Such an adorable baby and you still cannot tell whether it is male or female yet but soon, very soon, thanks Bonnie for sharing the pictures with us, I assume more will be forthcoming, please.

Unwanted ear piercing scream. Help!
judygram replied to mcclain32's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Dan is right on the money, Chachi has some baggage he is unpacking right now and it will take a while for this behavior to subside but ignoring it is the best thing you can do so be very patient with him. Most greys tend to be quieter than most parrots but he obviously had his reasons he developed the screaming and it will be a while before he learns that not all people are like his previous owners. -
Hello Jessie and welcome to our family, I think you are going to love getting a grey to enrich your life. Barbara provided one sourch where you can look for breeders and here is another avianbiotech.com you can look by state for breeders. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure, do ask questions and we will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. Sadly the pet store you visited is repeated widely all over the world, they are anxious to unload the birds they have on hand and don't take proper care of them, they are exposed to wide varieties of diseases being around birds who come from who knows where, I think you have chosen wisely to search for a breeder who specializes in greys for they usually are the ones who take the utmost care of their birds. Hope your search is very fruitful.

She really is a cutie pie and yes she may need the security of cuddling longer than a grey for the bigger birds take longer to mature but may she always be as sweet as she is right now and maybe when she is less clingy she will be more sociable with other people, continue to expose her to other people.

Your pictures make me want to visit your country Sanggay, do you work for the tourism industry? If not you should, thanks for sharing them with us.

Another bunch of wonderful pictures of the scenery in your area, wonder if any of the mushrooms you captured were edible, loved the ones of the waterfalls, thanks for sharing them with us.

Thanks for the update on Oboy and glad to hear he is doing fine and starting to settle into his new home. Usually when a grey is spooked and they land on the floor they will step up onto your hand to pick them up and he did that rather nicely. Try to offer him lots of different veggies fixed in different ways, cooked, raw, sliced, mashed and so forth for sometimes they prefer them one way over another and go easy on fruits as they need more veggies, offer fruits every few days and not every day. One thing about his cage, most greys tend to think of their cage as their safety zone which means its their territory and they usually don't like anyone invading it so allow him to come out of his cage before interacting with him, he will be more receptive to you that way. Its good you are patient with him as that is the best thing you can do right now, just give him plenty of time to come around on his own terms and please keep us informed.
-
The only thing about using ear muffs is most greys will be afraid of them at first and maybe for a long time, it could solve the problem of them being on the shoulder period.
-
Yes, you have to put it in the microwave and heat it a little to make it more of a liquid, I would suggest you put some in a small container and heat it before using it, the remainder will keep on your shelf for a long time.

Hello Gail and Frank and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Dylan. Greys do make wonderful companions and Dylan is so lucky to have you around all the time, I bet he is well spoiled but rightly so. They can all be a handful at times and not on their best behavior but then no one is perfect but Dylan sounds like he is a real delight to have around. If you have some pictures of Dylan you would share with us we would love to see them.
