  1. I think you have handled everything beautifully, you do have the experience but the introduction couldn't have gone any better than it did, wow I love how Dixie answered Yoshi's peek a boo comment, yes that is acceptance and I just bet there will be some grand times in that office in the near future with all of them interacting and getting along. I can't wait to see some pictures of Yoshi and the rest of the flock and I wish I could be a fly on the wall to witness some of the shenigans that will be going on soon, keep us posted Robin as I know you will.
  2. Does Chili eat pretty good during the day? Maybe he isn't as hungry in the evenings if he does eat more while you are gone but the only suggestion I have is to continue to offer the fresh meal and maybe he will eventually decide to eat more of it. It just shows how different your two cags are but if he has been vet checked then I wouldn't worry too much about it, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
  3. What a little sweetheart Greyson is, he has pulled on your heartstrings big time, I am in awe of your wonderful relationship with this creature, count yourself very lucky for you have what some of us don't, thanks for sharing that specialness with us as we never tire of hearing how these birds amaze us.
  4. We have a wood stove we use occasionally but have a fireplace in the family room where the birds cages are that we use often when it is very cold and it doesn't bother my 3 fids, in fact they probably like the warmth it gives off, as long as it is properly vented then it should not be a problem.
  5. I am really impressed with how quickly Yoshi has settled into her new home, kind of like she has been there all along but I am really glad it is going so smoothly and though there will undoubtedly be some kinks in the chain I see her blending in with the other birds, she will probably love the company since she was an only bird at Jessica's house. Please don't make us wait too long to find out how the introduction to the rest of your flock goes Robin.
  6. My grey likes to drink a little orange juice when I have a glass but its fun to see them come running for something they like.
  7. Linus looks like a real camera ham, what a hamdsome little fella, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  8. Oh that conjures up a wonderful graphic of a grey who is full of himself and enjoying every minute, thanks for sharing that with us.

    Cease and desist.

  10. I am sure Yoshi is going to be just fine in her new home, she may be in her honeymoon phase right now but she seems like she is going to do just fine under Robin's care, after all she has had plenty of experience with two greys of her own. I am sure she will face some tougher times in the near future as Yoshi unpacks her bags but that is to be expected. You have done a wonderful job with her and it shows in how she has related with Robin's family, she will pick her favorites but I think she will be friendly with all of Robin's family, time will tell. I know you didn't want to give her up but sometimes we are forced to do what we don't like to keep harmony in the family, I do like your idea of volunteering at some place that has birds as you have a lot to give and it will do your heart good even if you can't have any in your home, when life hands you a lemon make lemonade. I look forward to hearing how Yoshi is doing and maybe Robin will share some pictures soon.
  11. If you live in the USA "Bird Talk" magazine lists the fairs and conventions in an area in the back of it, the bird club I belong to has an annual bird fair in June and I like to go to the state convention, both are good sources of bird loot, all kinds of toys, foods and things to learn about our fids.
  12. Well if it is near where her wing joins the body underneath there would not be a lot of feathers and I would not worry about it if it isn't large patches of bare skin, she looks in pretty good condition from the picture you shared.
  13. I would venture a guess that your bird is molting since she is loosing small feathers and the tail and wing feathers fall out a few at a time so the bird never loses the ability to fly. Do you bathe her often? Have you tried using aloe vera juice as a spray? It is helpful for dry skin for they are usually itchy when the new pins are coming in. You can post a pic of her if you like, I would like to see her.
  14. I don't know whether Cocoa is just curious when looking at them or thinking maybe they would be a nice snack, thanks for sharing them with us.
  15. In a few days she will be getting around so good you will wonder if you still have the same bird, thats great to hear Chris and glad to hear she is doing just fine.
  16. Josey does not like bathing but I do take her into the shower but not while I take mine, I just hold the hand held shower over her and do the best I can, she won't fluff up her feathers so the water can penetrate to the skin but its better than nothing.
  17. Well at least he has improved, not much but every little bit helps, continuing to hold good thoughts that Linus gets thru this and is able to return to his loving home soon, keep the faith.
  18. Lots of greys view their cage as their territory, their safe haven and you better not mess with them when they are inside it, you are trespassing on their property and you best respect that. When you allow him to come out and then offer a step up he usually steps up for you but do not pass over the line or you will be nabbed but good. My grey will allow me to put my hand inside her cage but there are other members here who will attest to the same thing you are facing with Timmy, respect his territory or pay the price, Ouch!!
  19. The poor dear, no wonder she plucked her feathers but a good diet is essential to feather health and if she has any dry skin problems the aloe vera juice should help with that. She probably does have some places where the follicles were destroyed and those areas will not support new feather growth but from the picture you shared she looks like she should feather out enough to cover her bare skin. It will take time but some greys do it and it turns into a habit that is almost impossible to stop but try all ideas and suggestions to see if any will work for her. You just got her so maybe just the fact that now she is able to come out of her cage and spend some time with the new members of her flock she will not pluck any longer but time will tell.
  20. That is a very fine playstand, just as good as store bought ones and you paid much less, actually practically nothing since you used materials just laying around unused at the moment and Seuss knows a good thing when she sees it, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  21. That was the defining moment when you realize the trust is building and you have a bond with Buddy, small step but one of many to come in the near future, doesn't it just make your heart melt.
  22. Thats wonderful that the two of them get along together, be sure to supervise that time they are out together like that, interesting and does Rascal come when called?
  23. Shelby sounds like a real sweetheart and it won't be long now until she is a permanent resident in her new home.
  24. That is way too cute, little Marvin is a diva in the mornings and sweet little Rebel in the evenings.
