What an adorable little baby grey, you will have to keep us updated on his/her progress and share more pics so we can see the growth of that precious baby, now the waiting is almost unbearable but worth it.

Hard cheese such as cheddar is good but in very small amounts, try different nuts and seeds to find out what he likes the best.

Hello Ian and welcome to our family, glad to welcome you but sad to hear your grey is sick. I am very grateful you could give Waldo a good home for however long he makes it, at least he will be loved and given the best chance of survival but it has to weigh heavy on your heart, not all of us could do what you are doing, don't think I could, it takes a special kind of person but I am glad that you chose Waldo.

Just because she is snubbing the veggies right now doesn't mean she won't eat them at a later date, sometimes you just have to keep offering them and they finally gobble them up.

saw this on another forum, and it just made me smile

Hello Stacy and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. You sound like you are already ready for that baby to come home but in case you miss anything just read thru the threads here as they will prove most helpful especially after he/she comes home. I see you are from the UK, I am heading there myself in a few days to visit a dear friend I made with another member of this forum, love visiting there. -
Hello Aw64 and welcome to our family, so glad you found us. You have come to the right place so spend that time waiting for your baby reading thru the many threads here as you will learn most all you will need to know to take care of one of these precious creatures.
-
Hello Jenlap and welcome to our family, you have a lovely looking baby Cag. Please continue to read thru the threads here for lots of useful information and if you have questions feel free to ask any and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks so much for including a pic of your baby in your intro post and we look forward to hearing whether its a boy or girl. You have already had him/her vet checked and seems you are covering all the bases and doing a wonderful job being a first time grey owner. It looks like he/she was clipped, I hope you will consider not clipping any longer and allowing him/her to fly around your house but weight the pros and cons and see what you come up with.

Thanks for sharing that with us Penny, makes you want that tiel even more doesn't it!
-
It sounds like he is stress plucking in reaction to your absense and it has become a habit so it is not much that can be done to prevent it but accept it. How do you react to his plucking? He could be picking up vibes that you are stressed out by this and that doesn't help, they are very intune to our emotions and feelings. Hopefully some of the other members will have some ideas and suggestions for you but it looks like you may have to accept him the way he is.

African Grey wanted Sale/Adoption in NY area
judygram replied to Donshiv's topic in Classifieds Room
I don't know what may be available in your area but bird clubs are a good place to start, they usually hear about birds needing rehomed and may know of organizations that do rescue and rehoming of birds, thats where I would start. I don't think it matters about the sex of the grey you would want to add to your flock as more than likely the grey and your amazon would not get along but loads of us have multiple birds with many with both amazons and greys, hopefully they will add their comments. -
Hello Trish and welcome to our family, so glad you could give this grey a new forever home. It sounds like things are going smoothly right now as he adjusts to his new home but do not be surprised if there are a few bumps along the road as time goes by as the honeymoon phase is over, he will show more of his true personality when he becomes comfortable in his new home. Its good you are going to take him in for a checkup by an avian vet to make sure he is healthy, its always wise to schedule one as soon as possible so if there is anything to watch out for you will know it. Are you trying to get him to step up from inside his cage? It is best to let a grey come out on his own and then have him step up, some greys feel very protective of their cages, it is their safety zone and some do not like the intrusion of hands so they usually step up fine once outside, try that and see how it works. Feel free to ask all the questions you need to, we will help you in any way we can but be sure to read thru as many of the threads here as you can for they hold invaluable information that may be of help to you. Pictures are always welcomed if you have some of Dakota you would share with us.

Thats wonderful news and the bird is probably good therapy for your kids too having something to help take care of and be concerned about, so glad to hear there will be no more clipping of wings, I am proud of you.
-
How cruel they were to clip the wings so drastically, I would never purchase anything from them again and advise anyone you speak to about the place to not shop there either, they obviously don't know jack about birds. Poor thing and it will be awhile before all the flights come in so he will be capable of flight again, what a shame.
-
I do wish you much luck and Dave has given you some excellent advice, I want to add that since you had Momo first be sure to keep him first in everything, first spoken to in the morning, first fed, first let out of cage and so forth so he knows he is first before the tiel. BTW, have you posted a pic of the tiel yet, I want to see him.

my cag is plucking feathers..... need help!!!!!
judygram replied to dhillon88's topic in The GREY Lounge
There is not much you can do if that is the way she handles stress and it is obviously related to your absence but do keep her busy and do not make a fuss over it if you see it happening, they react to everything and if she sees your reaction to it then that is encouragement to keep doing it, just ignore it when it happens. -
Hello Attaboy and welcome to our family, be sure you do come back and tell us some about yourself and your grey if you have one, in the meantime I will be watching!!
-
Sounds like she is a little fearful of falling since she has had her nails trimmed, my grey will do that too sometimes since her nails are usually sharp and when filed down some she loses some of that grip but the suggestion to put your hand on her back to steady her is good, glad to hear she is doing better.
-
I hope your grey makes a full recovery and please do let us know how he does. Then when things settle down why not introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about yourself and Waldo.
-
He is not too old to play with toys but greys are slow to accept anything new or to change so give him time, most of us introduce a new toy by putting it somewhere where it can be seen but not close enough to scare then gradually move it closer over a period of days until he is comfortable around it. He may also have to be shown how to play if he was not provided with any toys before, just take the toy and play with it yourself and act like you are having a wonderful time with it, that seems to pique their interest.
-
Wooooohooooo is right, now the wait begins for your baby to wean but at least this is one step closer to the day you have your new arrival. On another note so sorry about your friend, seems all of us know someone who either has it or has passed away from it, wish a cure could be found.
-
I am so sorry to hear this, how sad such a beautiful creature could just pass away like that, you are doing the right thing to find out why this happened but I know your heart is breaking right now. Please let us know what you find out.

Questions from a newbie & prospective grey owner
judygram replied to Amit Gomes's topic in The GREY Lounge
That is not exactly what I said or meant, I for one work full time (8 hours) but I have plenty of time to spend with my grey, the person asking in this thread said he worked 11 hours a day and that doesn't leave much time for a grey being that most of us have other things we have to do when we get home. You being a grey owner know what I mean and that is if you are willing to do what it takes to give this bird what it needs to be healthy and happy then you do it, if you cannot make that time committment then you should think about other species of birds. -
African Grey has Bumps on his feet (cracking) PICS INSIDE
judygram replied to enferrari's topic in Health Room
Dave is right, you should have your grey checked out by an avian vet but do use some of that aloe vera jel to soothe and soften them in the meantime. Why not introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about yourself and your grey. -
Well congrats it is on such good grades, its obvious you did your homework.
