Great story! What an adorable bird.....a very lucky bird as well.

"People post questions because I feel they legitimately are looking for an answer, not some half-cocked response, symbol response or one laced heavily with sarcasm." Thank you, it bares repeating...

I always found it interesting how Nilah holds her food so much different than my greys do. As she eats, it is very dainty, suprising for an amazon I think. How bout it Cricket, Salsa and others?? Show us how well you hold your own food.

My daughter once took a Reike class and my pets seem to get the benefits of it.....not me tho.... Nilah expects it from my daughter for some reason, on Sunday mornings....the little bugger never gets enough, she will stay like this for over a half hour if you let her. And ALWAYS the left foot only. She will let me and others massage her left foot at other times.

Tonight, my daughter and I were watching tv, all the birds were in bed, and covered. We leave Piper covered only 3 sides of his cage cause he hates it! He started barking like my little Bichon who is a yippy little bugger. He barked and barked for a very long time, had us both suprised and laughing! That was a first for him!! Soooo smart! But still hates me.......oh well, I laugh about it, here I wanted a cockatiel so badly, and it doesn't want anything from me but FOOD! And I better share when I eat breakfast, or he yells at me.....lol

Yes, sounds like the honeymoon period is over and he is starting to settle in and change his ways. That is normal. You can't force a bird to accept everyone. It needs to be their choice who they desire and want to interact with, and who they choose to ignore. I have 6 birds, my cockatiel I got, haes me and loves my daughter, his choice, nothing I do changes that, so I accept it, clean and feed him, talk to him while my hands are hidden, otherwise he growls at me, and accept it. My greys change who their favorite one is periodically, we accept it, and go with the flow,. It makes a much more secure and happier bird.

Yes, there is no guarantee that introducing a grey to a bath regimen a certain way, will ensure that they like it. I have 2 greys, one will bathe on her own terms, and the other one rarely will, and again it is on her own terms. I learned that over a few years, you would think I was murdering them if I tried to get them wet in any way shape or form. Most important, don't force it, let THEM decide. It won't hurt them if they do not bathe weekly. IMO

No matter how many times I read this, it brings tears to my eyes, how heartbreaking. What a precious soul, he is blessed to have found you and Maggie.

Miggy, What are you reviving a 2 year old thread that obviously has no reverence to us these days.?

Nancy, I decided to stay with my alarm company that I already have. All the other companies were just as expensive, and I ave a lot of $$ invested in ths one. Door and window alarms, motion sensors, glass breaking sensors and extra boxes. I have 6 doors, tons of windows, so it's a big expense.

I have the DSC-930L. Seems to work well. I'm happy with it. I bought that one because it was wireless, has 2 way audio, an app for my phone as well as computer and I had a Best Buy gift card for $25 and the cost was $90 minus the gift card, so I ot it for $65.

Just wanted to update: I bought the D-Link web cam for my bird room. I can access it on my computer or phone anytime. It serves the purpose. It is supposed to be 2-way, but I can't seem to get it to work, only one way. My birds are very quiet and in active.....

Hello. Please tell us more about yourself. Do you have any birds?
-
Wow! That's fantastic RAY!!!!! I wish my birds would WANT to go back in their cages, but never! Would love to see a video of that.
-
Jay, I HAVE NOTICED!!! I highly respect the new you just as I did the old o was well!

Thanks Nancy, but these are my rules...the ones I allow. It was much worse as I posted on another thread about bedtime and Nilah. I allow her this special time with me.....she's adorable ! There are some nights, it is short and I make her step up, but how can I possibly pass up this precious time of cuddles, love and bonding with her? She has such limited time with me one on one, this is OUR time and I cherish it most nights.....

Tomorrow, Saturday is Talon's birthday! She will be 7 years old. She is the oldest in my house. She has always been so sweet. But she is the joker of the flock. She plays tricks on us and then laughs when she got us!! Pretty smart if you ask me!! She has now started asserting herself when it comes to Nilah trying to bully her. When Talon makes up her mind that something is her's she will stand her ground until Nilah gets the message and flies off. Talon is the most well behaved one as well, she gets to stay out of her cage more because I know she will behave if I am outside, the others have to go to jail!!!

Ray you are so right. Others don't know what they are missing. It's just like a couple who never has children, they can't know the joy of having a child .

Nilah has a ritual I must adhere to every night at bedtime. She knows when its time for Bed and she will fly off into the bird room where it is dark. Always landing on the same spot on the curtain rod where she waits until I get around to deciding to put them all to bed. it's a different time each night. Sometimes i do hear her say quietly, "do you want to go to bed? Eventually I go in there, I am required to step up onto the love seat, then step onto the end table, next i am to look up at her as she growls at me while opening up her beak and acting as though she is trying to bite me....I then am to reach my left hand up to her biting head, she then puts her head down where I have to pat her, rub her head and neck and massage her.....while my left hand is doing this, my right hand is go up to her where she is to put her left foot onto it like she would step up, but she wraps it around my finger and holds this position while my right hand is massaging, rubbing scratching her head......she is whining and cooing in an amazon way quietly like a dog .......next she puts her head down while I rise onto my tippy toes to kiss her head, no more than 4 times or she will quickly raise her head up, growl and bite me! By now, my arms are going numb, my legs are getting tired....you see, i have been up since 4 or 5 am, worked 2 jobs that day, come home to animals, kids, cooking dinner and laundry, so I am pretty tired. FINALLY! When she decides she's had enough, she will turn to bite my left hand, stay in that one footed on my right hand position, wait what seems like forever, and then step up with her other foot, say, "nuh nites." thats my cue that she is ow going to allow me to step down from the end table, then the love seat, a big step as i am trying to be gentle step onto the floor as I walk with her to her cage, all the time trying to remain calm so she doesn't fly off as she is biting my hand or fingers hard enough trying to get a response out of me.....THEN into her cage as she is still saying "nuh nites" over and over as I lock her in and cover her for the nite. Who says amazons aren't fun?

Grat advice! All my parrots are shoulder parrots, they are free to fly to my shoulder anytime they like. I rears ly turn my face directly towards them, as it could startle them and they naturally would bite out of instinct. I talk to them about what I am doing or ask them about their day. I always acknowledge their presence on my shoulder and make it a special time for them. My a,amzon loves to be on my shoulder when I get home from work, she will rub her head against my cheek over and over for cuddles as she hums. Love it! She shows me how much she missed me....making me feel guilty for working so much...
