Good decision....I weigh my birds only every couple of months or so.
  2. That looks so cool. Love it.
  3. awww.i know exactly how that feels. I really do think it's worse for you. My birds behave the same way when I have days I have to do tat.
  4. This is or I should say, was my newest blackberry. I had this for almost 2 months.......the latest one out........and probably my 20th one due to the, breaking or mostly my birds getting them. I took really good care of this one, except this one time when I had it on the charger and buried under a dish towel so my birds wouldn't get it......NILAH watched me and went after it when I wasn't looking. I immediately put in an insurance claim and they were on BO.....I needed a phone THEN!!! So it cost me another$200 and a new phone line. I now have 2 phones to pay for until the contract runs out. Thank you Nilah!!!!

Very good for for thought. I think every one of us learned something from your post. Thank you!
  6. Yes my birds do that too. It's their attack/play mode.
  7. Congrats! My vote is the 2 year old. He needs a new forever home.
  8. Oops, I forgot to mention..as soon as I got out of work that same day, I made a trip to the pet store to buy another on for the other cabinet.......Nilah claimed the new one of course.......
  9. I had this old wooden hut from our pet bunny that had died a few years ago. I thought it would be perfect to put on top of my kitchen cabinets instead of the empty cardboard boxes I put there to keep my birds from chewing my cabinets. So, immediately, Nilah claimed it and began chewing on it....wouldn't let Talon near it! ......all was well, she wouldn't leave it until bedtime, and that cost me a bribery of a pencil to get her to her cage for bed. The next morning, Talon being the first one up I dedicatedly went to it, and claimed it as hers......Nilah got up, and tried to take it back, bullying Talon like always...well, Talon said, no way, no how!!! She stood her ground and refused to leave, they began fighting, I had never seen that before, usually Talon flies off and Nilah wins every time. Not this time, Talon fought her, I ran over when I realized they were fighting and yelled at them and went to jump up to shoo Nilah away, but Talon bit her on the neck. Nilah was so shocked, she flew off not her tree stand, sat there quietly with a stunned and shocked look on her cute face. She never tried to go back, just sat their pouting and stunned......i checked her out, she was fine other than a few small feathers on the floor. Smug look on her face!
  10. Just wants to update since its been a while.....we seem to have fallen into a nice bedtime routine. At night, Nilah flies to a dark quiet spot and sits and waits for bedtime to come. I go to her, she asks quietly, do you want to go to bed? I give her a few head cuddles, and she steps, onto my hand with only her left foot for a few minutes, then steps up not my hand with her right foot.......that's her signal that I am allowed to walk to her cage and tell her time for bed, and she continues to say, nuh nites....then she goes int her cage. She then remembers....she's supposed to bite me, she tries a lite bite, then steps down onto her perch. The end!
  11. What great thread! I very much look forward to and enjoy reading about the other amazon in this family. Nilah will fly to my shoulder, get as close to my face as she can put her head down on the side of my cheek towards my chin and rub her head against my face as she softly whines and hums.....stops me dead in my tracks every time for those special cuddles. I am never too busy to miss those times with her.
  12. The other night, a telemarketer called. I for some reason, thought to answer the phone......they asked for me by name, and I said, "yes, speaking," Nilah was in one of her noisy moments.....Next thing I heard, was them trying to say something to me, and I am saying, yup....Nilah starts yelling, "oohhhh! Oh my god! Awww!!!! At the top of her little lungs...the telemarketer just hung up!!!! Hee hee!!!! Good way to get rid of them. I knew Nilah had a purpose other than to keep my on my toes!!!!
  13. Just wanted to share a cute story. some say greys can't associate actions, they only mimic. Well this hogwash!!! Listen to this proof. Talon has always had a sleep cage in my bedroom, which is covered at night when we put her to bed. I was at my computer in my bedroom with my daughter helping to load a video onto my computer. We were talking quietly back and forth....every couple of minutes Talon would say, "ssshhhhh!" when we were quiet, Talon was quiet....when we talked, she said it again, louder each time!! I would say, "okay Talon, sorry" . Then I would hear her again as we talked......... I almost burst out laughing!
  14. Jay, that is a wonderful testament to a grey vs an amazon. But I don't think you touched on the depth of love protection and devotion that an amazon shows you on a daily basis. A grey loves you in their own way, but an amazon wears their heart on their wing... They never miss a moment to let you know you are theirs, and they will fight anyone and anything who they feel will threaten that bond. Nilah loves me unconditionally, I can yell at her, who her off, and she's back for cuddles and love.there is nothing like it. I love my greys, but you love em on their terms. Nilah allows me to love her and cuddle when I feel like it, my greys are the opposite ! Another comparison....A grey wants to be in the same room with you, and amazon want to be on you and be involved in whatever you do. They are hands on!
  15. I have always wanted a toucan. When looking into it, I was told they were very messy and had many different requirements than my greys, so I changed my mind. But it is my pipe dream to own one, so.....I will live it by reading everything I can about yours! I enjoy it so much!
  16. Hi Nancy, I understand your feelings. My birds were out most of every day, then life happened, and I needed to take on 2 more jobs. I am working full time now, with misc. hours. I was worried my 3 would be upset for being in their cages for much of the day, but they seem to be fine. They are still just as happy and flying everywhere. Of course when I get home and try to peek at my iPad on the couch before cooking dinner, they all flock around me and I am at that moment filled with love and reminded, they really DO love me. In the mornings, they have come to expect their cage time. I have toy buckets I fill regularly and try to offer them new things a few times a week. So relax, a schedule will fall into place and all will be well. You may find more lovin when you get home from them all!
  17. What a great thread! Thanks Ray, soooooo very interesting!
  18. How precious, and what a wonderful moment that was. They really can read us and love us when we're not looking...in their own way.
  19. Nancy, I say Good for her! She's being a ZON!
