Ray you are so right. Others don't know what they are missing. It's just like a couple who never has children, they can't know the joy of having a child .

Nilah has a ritual I must adhere to every night at bedtime. She knows when its time for Bed and she will fly off into the bird room where it is dark. Always landing on the same spot on the curtain rod where she waits until I get around to deciding to put them all to bed. it's a different time each night. Sometimes i do hear her say quietly, "do you want to go to bed? Eventually I go in there, I am required to step up onto the love seat, then step onto the end table, next i am to look up at her as she growls at me while opening up her beak and acting as though she is trying to bite me....I then am to reach my left hand up to her biting head, she then puts her head down where I have to pat her, rub her head and neck and massage her.....while my left hand is doing this, my right hand is go up to her where she is to put her left foot onto it like she would step up, but she wraps it around my finger and holds this position while my right hand is massaging, rubbing scratching her head......she is whining and cooing in an amazon way quietly like a dog .......next she puts her head down while I rise onto my tippy toes to kiss her head, no more than 4 times or she will quickly raise her head up, growl and bite me! By now, my arms are going numb, my legs are getting tired....you see, i have been up since 4 or 5 am, worked 2 jobs that day, come home to animals, kids, cooking dinner and laundry, so I am pretty tired. FINALLY! When she decides she's had enough, she will turn to bite my left hand, stay in that one footed on my right hand position, wait what seems like forever, and then step up with her other foot, say, "nuh nites." thats my cue that she is ow going to allow me to step down from the end table, then the love seat, a big step as i am trying to be gentle step onto the floor as I walk with her to her cage, all the time trying to remain calm so she doesn't fly off as she is biting my hand or fingers hard enough trying to get a response out of me.....THEN into her cage as she is still saying "nuh nites" over and over as I lock her in and cover her for the nite. Who says amazons aren't fun?

Grat advice! All my parrots are shoulder parrots, they are free to fly to my shoulder anytime they like. I rears ly turn my face directly towards them, as it could startle them and they naturally would bite out of instinct. I talk to them about what I am doing or ask them about their day. I always acknowledge their presence on my shoulder and make it a special time for them. My a,amzon loves to be on my shoulder when I get home from work, she will rub her head against my cheek over and over for cuddles as she hums. Love it! She shows me how much she missed me....making me feel guilty for working so much...

There isn't much more to say that Dave hasn't already said. A big YES, way to cold for a grey.

There is nothing more fun than reading about an amazon. I enjoy this.

Talon and my birds occasionally pull this routine. They wil be fine for as long time, then they decide NO more going in their cage. I always talk to them as I am heading to their cage, and ALWAYS have a special treat to give them when I put them in their cage. There has been times, I have had to chase one around the house, blocking off doorways, and even towelling or holding them tight. They soon learn they are going in the hard way, or the easy way. In a couple of days, they are back to letting me put them in nicely with a special treat. They do go thru stages, especially Talon my 7 year old.

Thanks Nancy, but I have 12 fire, smoke and CO2 alarms. But they are useless if no one is home to act if they go off. In my case, I want an alert system when we are gone.

Oh my.......I am so very sorry. Can only imagine the pain you are going thru right now. Please don't blame yourself. Cherish the memories you have and celebrate his life as best you can. We want you to stay, but understand it may be too painful. Perhaps one day, you will find room in your heart for a new addition. Keep in touch please. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

How adorable. She's very pretty! I would have no problem allowing her on your shoulder. You follow your own instincts, there is no right way or wrong way. Just what works best for you. Just be careful, and keep your face turned away, neither one of you know each other enough to trust each other, and what seems like nothing to you could frighten her and her instinct would be to bite. Enjoy her, she's lovely,

That's exactly what I did almost a year ago. Guess what? Everything is still sitting in my garage......haven't had te time to put it all together yet.....ugh!

I will pass this onto the tech dept. It is not as user friendly as it was before we made the switch to V-Bulletin. The search feature I mean..

After researching and reading reviews, this company got terrible reviews. Guess I will look for something else, cause I can't recommend it based on what I read.

Yes dan, my concerns are exactly as you stated. I am upset as to why they were set off. I know we have no mice, rodents etc. I do have an oil furnace, and hot water heater, but the furnace only runs for the hot water at this point. They were going off again once I cut the power to the house and turned it on again, but it was the basement that was not going off, only the top 2 floors......don't know who to call to check it out.....I like your advice about a new company. Guess I will look into that for starters. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. You really got me thinking with these good ideas. I am anxious to get a web cam going, but don't know how it works. Do i need to hook it up to a laptop and leave it in the room? And how do I stream it at qwork? Not very techie here...

I had the scare of my life today. I left for work this am at 8:30. My kids were in school and my daughter was at work as well. I have a house alarm which I always set when I leave, and doors all locked. I drove home at 3:15 to quickly change and leave within 15 minutes to go teach my classes at my dance studio, as I pulled into the garage, I heard the alarms going off, I flew into the house, dis-armed the alarm and realized the entire house smoke and carbon monoxide alarms were blaring. My 17 year old son was on the back deck with his friends, he locked himself out, I opened the doors for him and we ran thru the house and searched for the smell of smoke. Nothing.....so I thought OMG! Carbon monoxide........the birds......I ran to all the cages scared to see the worst, but Thank God, all 6 seemed fine. I spent the next few hours trying to figure out what happened. I had to kill the power to the whole house to shut them down. From what I can tell from the way my dogs were behaving when i got home, they were going off all day long..... It got me thinking, now that all of us are gone most of the day, if something happened, it would be too late by the time I got home. I had my alarm system put in after I moved into my house 5 years ago. The smoke and Cm alarms were hard wired before, so my alarm system doesn't connect to them. I called my alarm company tonight, it will cost my $83@ per alarm. I have to use THEIR alarms cause other ones aren't compatible with their system. (ADT) My house has a total of 10 alarms to replace. Obviously, I can't afford that, but in hind site, it is way cheaper than the priceless flock I have. obviously, I must do this. So I have to make a decision on how many alarms I will replace and connect to my alarm monitoring system for the safety of my birds, cats and dogs. Any advice is welcome. But I wanted to share what happened, for others who are gone all day to think about....... I am quite upset at the thoughts of what I could have walked into if it was the carbon monoxide, and how horrible I would have felt, the guilt, ect for the rest of my life. I would never be the same..........I know you guys would understand, but no one else in my life understands the magnitude of the what if......I can't help but feel that this was a huge warning sign and I need to act on this ASAP. I can't risk anything happening while I am gone and not get notified to try and help. Secretly, I wanted to quit my job to stay home just in case........but I know that's a stupid thing to do, I have 3 kids also to keep a roof over as well as my flock. I am very sad and upset over all this. Oh, and I might add, that I am sure they were going off for most of the day, as my birds wanted to go back into their cages and to bed very early instead of staying up with me. They were exhausted, guess they didn't get their afternoon naps. So that tells me they were blaring all daylong...

My birds love their boings, they swing on them sometimes. But my amazon LOVES to be pushed on her swings.

I don't know about aloe, but garlic is DEFINITELY toxic!!!!!! We had a member here who was told he should feed his grey garlic, that is was safe for it,he did and the bird passed away quickly. Not sure I would trust any site that tells you garlic is fine....

Braveheartdogs, I agree completely with you!
