  1. Cindy, any update? Why are they selling him? That's important info to find out.
  2. Kitty, PLEASE Stay away from putting the perches that have the holes in them in the cage. My grey is the one that dblhelix was referring to. She had one of those perches in her cage, and did get her nail hooked in one of the holes and couldn't get it out. I was home, but in another room and each time I walked by her cage, I didn't notice. I thought she was playing as she sometimes yells at her toys and appears to be fighting with them. She had a toy hanging right near there. Finally when she didn't stop yelling at it, I saw she had her nail stuck way in there, it was very difficult to get her unstuck. I had to remove the perch with her on it, take it & her out of the cage, and try to maneuver her nail out. All the time, she was getting hysterical, flapping, and screaming! It was very scary for both of us. I just Thank God I was home, I have heard of birds that will chew their foot off if they get it stuck for too long of a time. So, from now on, I use the perch on the outside of her cage ( she does love to use it) and I monitor her when she is on it.
  3. Congratulations Mark!! I too, have known Mark from another forum. His posts are excellent. He has a wealth of information on many subjects & issues. He'll be the best moderator for this very busy room. So, a big CONGRATULATIONS MARK!! aka dblhelix {Love-000200BF}
  4. Hi Laine, Welcome to our family! I'm happy you joined. Looking forward to hearing more about you. Do you have any birds? If you need any help, just ask, and we'll be happy to help you!
  5. Hi Victoria, & Welcome! You sound like you have a very nice family of birds in your home. You'll find lots of good information here. I look forward to hearing more about your birds. If you have any pictures, please post them, we'd love to see them!
  6. Hi Keywe, Welcome! Glad you joined our family. I have a separate sleep cage for our grey. It is large, does have toys, and perches, a happy hut that she loves to sleep in, and she has a little food and water, even though she never seems to eat or drink in it. She goes in it for about 12 hours a night, and I do cover her with a dark sheet. It is upstairs in my son's room, that's why we keep it covered, it keeps the light out as he's on the computer at night. Her play cage is downstairs. It works well for us, but is different for everyone.
  7. Congratulations! She is beautiful...I'm glad all is going so well. Thank you for the picture, she looks very curious.
  8. I do know of someone who takes their grey to a classroom. I know she had to have all the parents sign a waiver. She took her bird there about 2-3 times a week, so as not to overwhelm the bird. I think it would be very nice, you just have to remember to have very close supervision, as bites can be very serious. :unsure:
  9. Nice Heather! I like that, probably a lot of truth to that too.:unsure:
  10. Steve, glad to hear that so far so good. Give her our best wishes. When you put Buddy into his cage, immediately reward him with a treat that you give him in the other hand. That usually helps, I give Talon an uncooked egg noodle, or a nutraberry, whatever Buddy likes and doesn't get often. Good luck, and I hope it helps! Thanks for the update, and keep it coming!
  11. Judy is right, I missed the first two, I guess you know where my head is today.....:laugh: :laugh:

  17. Talon likes to have a little toast with peanut butter on it for breakfast. She loves it, I only give her a little because there is a lot of fat in it.
  18. I wonder about the pine pitch that they can have on them. Very messy and hard to remove. Talon would hate to have a sticky talon!! :pinch: :pinch:
  19. I thought it was time to bring this thread back. Does give these to their greys to use as toys or treats?

    Toni, it sounds like it could be very soon. You are lucky, sounds like a very sweet bird you have. Are you ready for her at home? It could be just days, it's really up to the bird.
  24. Toni, He might expect it every time, if that becomes the routine in your home. You should vary it if that's not what you want.
  25. Hi Gloria! I have a potty basket for Talon that I use. I put a puppy pad in it, and it makes clean up easy. She will perch on the handle, and then go. As long as I watch for the signs, she will go there if I put her there. The earlier you start, the better!
