1. OH MY DAN! You had to lead her down into the hole? We never dug the hole until after, you were braver than I could be..........
2. Deb, My heartfelt condolences are with you. We just recently put our sweet horse Annie down 3 months ago suddenly due to a shoulder break. If you search here, you will see the thread I started when we lost her. So I feel your pain. It is a difficult thing to go thru, but I am happy you don't want to see your horse suffer. You are a brave and selfless person. As someone who grew up with horses, and have boarded horses at our barn for the past 20 years, I have experienced what you are about to go thru many times. Both with our own horses and those of our boarders as well. Some were planned, some were not, some were very sudden. It is my VERY STRONG OPINION, to give them an injection when their time has come. It is the most humane way without a doubt. If you have an experienced vet, then this is the kindest way to put them down. First, they give them an injection that is a tranquilizer, this calms and relaxes them. We give our hugs, kisses and say goodbye all the time while stroking them, and then the vet gives them another shot that is an overdose that just puts them quietly to sleep. It happens very quickly and they feel nothing other than what you would feel going into a deep sleep. You hear their last couple of breaths, and then they are gone to be free, running with the horses in the big green pasture in the sky. I have also experienced the gun as a way to end their lives. It is HORRIBLE!! A sight that I will never forget. The sound of the gun I can still hear in my head to this day, the sound the horse made, the grunt, the loud thud as they fell. That was with one shot between the eyes. Imagine, it doesn't always end with one shot, it may take a couple, how HORRIBLE for the horse that you love so much to experience that pain and suffering.... I didn't even know this horse, I can't imagine if it were my loving pet I was witnessing. I have also seen many a horse whose adrenalin has kicked in and they were being put down by injection, they are already calm from the tranquilizer, so they felt no pain or suffering by having more shots administered to be put to sleep. IN MY OPINION, IT IS THE ONLY KIND WAY TO PUT YOUR HORSE DOWN. I am sure you will do what is right for your horse. Please keep in touch, and I would love to see pictures of her if you have any to share. We also cut a snip of her mane, put a ribbon around it for a remembrance. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Penny
3. I would like to Congratulate Judygram on her promotion to site moderator of ALL rooms here at Greyforums. As you all can see, Judy is our most dedicated poster, soon to reach 20,000 posts! Judy has been here since the start of our family, and is to be commended for her dedication and loyalty to all of us here at Greyforums. Congratulations Judy! I am very thankful, and very proud of all you have done here to make this the best possible forum family for us and our birds. Penny

6. Well, Thank you everyone for your kind words. It takes a family like ours to make this place what is is. Karma for everyone, for caring for others, for your understanding and willingness to give of yourselves to help every bird here have the best life possible.
7. I agree with luvparrots. Talon's sleep cage is in my bedroom, and quite often, I hear her snacking on her food late at night, occasionally during, and early morning before we get up.

10. I just wanted to express my gratitude to every member here on this forum. It is such a wonderful family we have created here thanks to all of you. I know I haven't been posting much these last few months, and that is because I am working 3 jobs, studying and being a mom to 3 of my 4 kids. But I am on here 5-6 times a day reading all the latest posts. I may not log on, as I get every post on my Blackberry, and read them as I am going about my day. But I am always smiling and enjoying what I read. :cheer: So A HUGE THANK TO EVERYONE for all their replies to our members, all the advice, all the smiles, and especially the companionship and respect that you show to everyone. A BIG THANK YOU to our moderators, and to those members that NEVER miss a reply. I feel so lucky to have everyone here as a part of my world. Sincerely, Penny aka Talon
11. Rikki's top half of her cage is covered, but she sleeps at the top of her boing. Talon is also covered and has her own sleep cage, she sleeps crouched on the top of her happy hut. She used to sleep inside of it, but now that she is older, she likes the top.
12. Great topic! Karma for you for starting this. 2. It is impossible to ever think you can eat your entire lunch without making extra for your birds!

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2009/09/16 20:07

MAX Has Gone

Here Here Judy! B) Skuffy, I am happy you have max back , but your comments were unnecessary. If there are any more sarcastic comments, I will lock this thread for starters.....and Judy is right, you will earn your karma back with respect, just like the rest of us do. FYI: as admin, I have access to EVERYONE'S records, and you did not have 405 for karma.... Wondering, if so many people told you he was in the pub, why did you not go there in an instant and see for yourself, why wait until your daughter went...

21. Okay everyone...... if you did a search here, you would see that almost every topic regarding wing clipping results in the same way. Members feel very passionate about their decision regarding whether to CLIP OR NOT TO CLIP. but what many forget during the heated debate, is that everyone is entitled to give their advice, opinions, and feelings on the subject. That does not make your way right or wrong. You do what is best in your situation. We may or may not agree, but arguing your point home is useless. Please read the past threads about this subject and you will see my point. I have been watching this thread very intently, and have decided it is time.....I AM LOCKING THIS THREAD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS UNTIL THINGS COOL DOWN. Lets put our focus into enjoying our time here in other subjects. B) Sincerely, Talon
22. DAN!! I love you earlier reply. I COMPLETELY agree with what you wrote. We think so much alike when it comes to our pets. And I understand that your post was not meant to hurt or insult anyone's feelings. After being a member of this family with 8511 posts, we all know better!! We better....or else, Judy will give us a whipping!!
23. If you do a search here, you will find both sides saying Yes, their safe, and no they are not. My rule of thumb is to err on the side of caution. I don't allow my birds to play with them because of the worry of glue, just in case....you never no where some companies try to cut costs by buying out of the country a cheaper unsafe glue to save $$. Just my opinion...B)
24. CONGRATULATIONS CAROL!!! I am so happy and proud of you! At 48 years old, I became a Certified Fitness Trainer, and am in total believe about living a healthier lifestyle!
